Steam Sale: Any Airports Worth Buying?
The thread title pretty much says it all . The latest Steam Summer Sale is on and X-Plane is on sale, too. Out of the DLCs and add-ons, unfortunately, only the Aerosoft airports (and a couple planes) are on sale but better than nothing I guess, right? Steam doesn't really have any reviews on those airports yet and it seems to be incredibly hard to find any kind of professional or user reviews on the net so I'd like to throw this out here where the experts reside . Are any of those X-Plane 10 airports worth getting and if so which ones or are there generally speaking better alternatives in the X-Plane sim universe? As a EU resident I'm mostly interested in London-Heathrow, Dublin, Amsterdam and Düsseldorf since those might be pretty nice to have for some city hopping short trips. Thanks in advance for any input y'all can provide on the matter! Daniel

PMDG 737NGX Retail Availability Europe English Version?
Ah, I see. Thanks a lot . I originally wanted a box because I seemed to remember that the no longer listed retail box on Amazon.co.uk mentioned some charts and checklists as box contents but I can no longer find any references to such box contents so I might have erred on that one. - Anyway, I guess it wouldn't be a big deal to just print any charts and checklists which are probably included in PDF format with the digital copy so I guess I will indeed travel the digital route. Thanks again, Daniel

PMDG 737NGX Retail Availability Europe English Version?
G'day, so I've been keeping an eye out for retail availability of the PMDG 737NGX in Europe for about a month now but haven't had much success. For the record, I live in Germany but definitely want the English retail version. I believe the only shop that had it in stock was Aerosoft at a fairly hefty €59.90. I seem to remember that Amazon.co.uk used to have it in stock for a price somewhere in the €40s last year but right now Amazon.co.uk only appears to have the French CD version listed. They no longer even have a listing for the UK/ENG version so you can't even create a backorder for when they receive new stock. Does anyone here know what's up with that? Is PMDG moving to a digital only format? Or is more retail stock in the making and on the way? Or are they bundling the PMDG 737NGX with their other 737 add-on for a brand new retail release? Or... what gives? Cheers in advance for any useful hints Daniel

Will FTX Global Vector make UTX obsolete?
Thanks for the advice, folks. I think I'll hold off of reinstalling UTX then. Waiting for Global Vector and OpenLC does sound like a better idea overall to me. By the way what is the anticipated release time frame for the LC package or packages? Does anyone know? And will it also cover the whole globe in one package or are they going to sell region packs?

Will FTX Global Vector make UTX obsolete?
Hi guys, just reinstalled FSX and since FTX Global Vector is supposed to come out shortly I was wondering whether it is even worth it to install UTX (Europe) at this point anymore or just wait the week or two until FTX Global Vector is available. Or are there any other benefits to UTX that FTX Global Vector does not have? Will FTX Global Vector make UTX obsolete? What would you do? Thanks, Daniel

FS Global Ultimate?
Ah, thanks for the clarification! :good: Then let's rephrase that question to: Is FS Global Ultimate still considered as the ultimate mesh add-on and is it worth the hefty price of admission (and the time consuming setup procedure)? And what about compatibility with FTX Global and other scenery-/airport-type add-ons? Is there still this issue from way back that you're going to have to live with "flying" airfields in mountainous areas with FS Global installed?

FS Global Ultimate?
OK, so I have looked through the first 10 pages here and haven't found a single thread dealing with FSX mesh add-ons. Since I am about to reinstall FSX yet again, I was wondering whether it is advisable to get any mesh add-ons like FS Global at all? My general plan for scenery is to install FTX Global (and maybe some compatible regions/airports) and UTX and then some Aerosoft Euro airports. In the description of FTX Global it says that they have unlocked "dormant meshing tiles" so I'm guessing my question boils down to: Has FTX Global made mesh add-ons like FS Global redundant? Is FS Global still a viable add-on? Would anyone (still) recommend it or is there a better (and preferably much cheaper ) solution out there somewhere? What is the general consensus (if there is such a thing) on mesh add-ons? Must-have, luxury item, superfluous, what? Thanks a lot in advance! - Daniel -

FSX Essentials (Payware/Freeware) in 2013?
Thanks for the additional suggestions! PFPX and ProATCX are on my watch list now (will buy ProATCX as soon as UT2 support has been added) and Accu-Feel will be bought shortly.

FSX Essentials (Payware/Freeware) in 2013?
Thanks! Sounds good. Thanks for the advice and the tips where to look for the PMDG of GA. Definitely going to check that out once I have a grip on the default Cessna. Cool, thanks. What I am wondering about though is: The airports should all work fine with GEX and UTX installed, right, since they are basically a different kind of entity or data set that is not covered by GEX/UTX... is that right? What about OrbX, VFR or Innsbruck though? From what I have read it would collide at the very least with GEX, correct? What about UTX? Would I be required to manually set up my sceneries depending on my planned trip before each flight? Oh yeah, after I have seen some of the amazing OrbX PNW screenies I definitely want to explore that area one day as well but first of all I want to become familiar with navigation and VFR/IFR in Europe before moving over to the US where it seems like some standards are quite a bit different. I am confused enough as it is so I want to "master" Euro flying first before venturing forth . VATSIM sounds great and once I have acquired more basic and advanced skills I think I'll definitely sign up there to maximize the simming experience. Until then I guess that... hmmm... UT2 plus LiveATC will have to do. I mean UT2 has the real schedules and when tuning into the nearest major airport via LiveATC on my laptop, well, it's a bit of a band aid but better than nothing, huh?

FSX Essentials (Payware/Freeware) in 2013?
Hi folks, I've recently returned to FSX after a long hiatus from flight simming in general and I'm wondering what you guys would consider as the essentials or must-haves in terms of free and/or paid add-ons. Some basic info: - I live in Germany and would like to do most of my flying in Europe for starters (with other areas of the world to follow later for sure) - I have a fairly beefy rig with an [email protected], 8GB RAM, GTX 680, 256GB SSD - Currently running FSX in DirectX 10 mode w/ dual monitors, HOTAS Warthog and the add-ons listed below I've done a bit of research myself and after -more or less - careful evaluation have acquired the following already so... HAVES: - FSUIPC and LINDA for setting up the controls and basic stuff - REX plus Overdrive for weather and realistic clouds - GEX Europe for looks - UTX Europe for looks - GSX for a bit more realism - UT2 including the fall/winter schedule for more realism WANTS: Anything and everything that adds more realism and more immersion and is considered to be a "must-have" by you guys. Please keep in mind that I wish to maintain DirectX 10 compatibility (everything is working fine right now). I will definitely get PDMG 737NGX at some point but for now I want to start small with a Cessna (either the default or might get an add-on pack for that one as well) or Piper and work my way up the ladder before tackling the bigger birds. Finally some specific questions: 1) Are there any add-ons in the scenery department that will work flawlessly with the UTX/GEX combo? Like Aerosoft's airport sceneries or generally more detailed sceneries? Reason for asking: GEX/UTX looks good but still seems a bit rough for my taste. I live in a medium-sized German city, i.e. in Freiburg in the SW of Germany. It's a town of ~200K people but when flying over my area I definitely do miss some detail, especially the prominent "Freiburger Münster" which is our local cathedral and should really stick out . 2) Is there a must-have add-on to add realistic ATC messages and realistic radio messages from other flights? Preferably one that is compatible or interacts with my already installed Ultimate Traffic 2? 3) Somewhat related to 2)... is there an add-on that adds a much better AI for tower, ground and ATC so you get a real sense of being supervised and controlled? Thanks a lot in advance for providing any useful hints and advice!
