  1. Thank you very much to everyone that has commented! I have taken everything on board and given everything a go. I have tried the optimise_dense_clouds tweak and didn't notice any change visually or performance wise. I turned SGSS off in NVI and it's running perfectly through the thickest clouds imaginable! Thank you! However, the shimmering looks horrible. I then tried just 2x SGSSand it was straight back to stuttering. Does anyone know of any other ways to either get rid or subdue this shimmering?
  2. Right, i'll also give that a go. Would it have to be all the way down or will it be a trial and error deal?
  3. Completely agree, flying without clouds or very poor clouds takes a lot away from the experience! Sorry it's affecting you too. Lets hope they do something about it for the next update. On that subject, does anyone know when P3D is usually updated, Quarterly, random? How do you find out there is an update? I've never experienced this with P3D before. Vic, I'll give that a go! I do use Nvidia Inspector, my Anti-aliasing mode is set to 'Enhance the application settings' and Antialiasing Transparency Supersampling '8x Sparse Grid Supersampling'.
  4. The title says it all really. Awful FPS and huge stutters with clouds in P3d v3. Even if the FPS aren't low it will stutter madly. The computer I use has: i5 3570k OC'd to 4.0 GHz Nvida GTX 760 2gb 8gb Ram Windows 7 64bit P3D on a separate SSD I also bought a laptop recently: Not on it at the moment so don't have exact details. i7 4***hq 2.6GHz Boost to 3. something. Nvidia GTX 960m 12gb Ram Windows 8 64bit P3D on a separate SSD I'd like to start by saying that I have used FSX for years with very high settings and never had this problem before (I know P3D is much more intensive, I just wanted to show i'm not a flight simulation noob). I had P3D v2.5 for a month or so before v3 came out and during this time I don't think I had this problem. I think over a whole month I would have noticed this problem, surely? From day one however with P3D v3 I have noticed this very annoying, and simulation ruining problem. I have this problem with both systems I have tried it on and neither of them are exactly slouches. This problem only seems to occur when I have a fair few clouds, few and far between is fine, but if there is a big group and I look at them the FPS drop to under 10 and I get bug stutters. If i am flying though cloud in very overcast conditions it stutters. When I am on the ground however, it's as smooth as can be. In very cloudy and rainy conditions at Aerosoft Heathrow with ORBX global and PMDG 737/777 I have steady FPS between 25 and 30. That's great, and it is what makes me think its not my setup, what do you think? A problem arises when I angle my cameras so that I am looking at the clouds and it starts stuttering, I move the cameras away from the clouds and we're fine again. I take off, fine, fine, fine, hit the clouds, stutter stutter stutter, I'm through the clouds and cruising, fine. I use Active Sky Next and REX , but I have tried removing them and testing without them and if I make it overcast I get the same problem. I did a clean install and had the same problem without them. When I use Active Sky I use the default settings and I have the enhanced features turned off (in v2.5 I had them all on a seemed fine). With REX I dont use any of the HD textures, they're all set to 512. In my cfg I have the ground shadows set to 512, I read somewhere that it can make a difference, very little in my opinion. Cloud Draw Distance: 60 Cloud Coverage Density: Medium Detailed Clouds: Checked Volumetric Fog: Checked Rate At Which Weather Changes: No Change If I Put My settings right down to zero for everything it is flyable, but that is really rubbish. They're not exactly high at the moment. If there are any tweaks or any other ideas people have could you please help me out? Does this problem only affect me? It's very strange if it does. Thank you, Andy
  5. Thank you very much! I had used an older installer that I had kept. Such a simple solution has sorted so many problems!
  6. I'm not really sure where to start with this one. I bought a brand new Acer Aspire V Nitro, i7 processor, Nvidia 960m, 12gb Ram and windows 8.1 and I'm having problems. I also have a desktop PC and I have p3dv3 working with all of my addons and I'm fairly certain I have installed it in the same way on the laptop. When I recieved the laptop I replaced the 60gb ssd with a Transcend 256gb ssd and did a clean install of Windows 8.1 onto the 2TB hard drive (It was originally on the 60gb ssd). I have turned user account control off, I always did this for FSX so I do it for p3d. I am the administrator and run the programs in administrator mode. I have installed Prepar3d v3 onto my SSD under 'Lockheed Martin\prepar3d v3'. I open the program and p3d loads and I am able to fly around in the default f-22 no problems, 55-60fps no stutters. Great. I then install the Captain Sim l-1011, the product loads in p3d, but the gauges don't move, nor do the control surfaces. the aircraft doesnt have any gear either. I removed and then reinstalled p3d ( done 3 times now). I tried the Aerosoft a320 and the same issue occurs. The other thing is when I install the Estonia Migration Tool, when I run the program it looks for prepared and says that p3d was not found. All of this works on my PC so I'm a little confused, the only difference is that I use Windows 7 on the PC. I have also tried installing p3d on my 2TB hard drive and that also has the OS on but I have the same problems. I did this because i thought it may have been the SSD acting up but it seems that this isn't the problem. I haven't used Windows 8 before so could I be doing something wrong during installation? Very frustrating, any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated!
  7. I'm just looking for some information regarding laptops and FSX. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this topic. Due to my current situation I am looking at getting a laptop to play FSX on, I know this isn't ideal but neither is my situation. I have a desktop, (specs- i5-3570k @ 3.4ghz, 8gb RAM, nvidia gtx 760 2gb, windows 7 64bit) and I use PMDG-777-737/aerosoft/captainsim, Active Sky Next, REX 4, Pro-ATC, Ezdok and most often a payware airport at my departure and arrival airport. This desktop runs my flight sim exactly how I want it and I am wondering if there are any laptops out there that can run FSX smoothly like this. I am looking at spending no more than £800, I know that's not a great deal but hey, that's my budget. I have found this example, MSI GP72 2QE (Leopard Pro) (www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/m/p/1811136) and I was wondering of this would run the sim with all of my addons? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am very good when it comes to knowledge about desktops however I have never had much experience with a laptop. Thabk you very much in advance! Andy

  9. Didn't mean to post that 3 times :') Oh thank you, That's great! i've already spent enough on this thing! I will Try moving the sliders and see what happens with my VAS.
  10. Thank you both very much! I do have some other questions now though. It mentions photo-sceneries affect this because they all load up, does this mean my orbx global loads up the entire world for an entire flight? Although more RAM will not sort this problem out, if I buy say 4GB more, will this help to make my Sim run faster/smoother? A noticable difference? Say I have all my settings sliders for all the scenery things (not including traffic, thats at 60%) if I take them down 20% will that make a noticable difference? Sorry for all the questions but I fighure when youre in a for like this you may as well try and get as many answers as you can the questions that are bugging you :') Thank you both very much! 11. I previously got a lot of 'FSX has run out of memory, please restart FSX and lower settings' messages and I did some research and decided it may have been my hard drive and so I bought a 250gb SSD. I then reinstalled my OS on the hard drive (SSD is only for FSX) and then all of FSX onto the SSD, I still have 86GB free on it. I usually get this when I am departing or approaching big airports such as UK2000 Heathrow, Aerosoft CDG etc. I use Orbx Global, Active Sky 2012, REX 4, lots of Payware Airports and usually either PMDG 777 or 737 every flight (but i have lots of others as well). Basically I am wondering what the problem is. I have read that it can be because of lack of space on your hard drive but as I have an SSD with 86GB free I don't see how it can be this. I am wondering if it is a lack of RAM? I have 8GB of Corsair DDR3-1600MHz. My specs are: Windows 7-64bit Intel i5-3570k overclocked at 4.2GHz 8GB Corsair DDR3-1600MHz RAM 1000GB Hard Drive (For OS and other programs, only 15% full) 250GB SSD (For FSX Only, 85GB free) Arctic Freezer CPU Fan Cooler Master 600w Power Suppley Help With This would really be helpful! Thank you Very Much in Advance. Andy Sorry I left This off: Since reinstalling everything it seemed okay but yesterday I got the error leaving Heathrow and then I redid the flight from Gatwick and 6 hours later I was approaching Fly Tampa Dubai and got the error. Since I Reinstalled everything I have updated every driver possible, Chipstets, GPU etc. My graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce 760 2GB. Before I get this error I usually get a beeping sound every so often (maybe 30 seconds between beeps) that sounds like a sort of error sound. I am wondering if this is part of it aswell. I also want to say that I seem to have eradicated most other CTD's though various Tweeks and programs like FSUIPC. I am Also testing my RAM at the moment using Memtest86+ but there does not seem to be any errors so far.
  12. Sorry I thought that i had replied to this earlier. I already have both of those added to my flight sim and i am still having the problems but thank you very much for your suggestion.
  13. I've had a lot of trouble over the last week with various ctd's. I've had gdiplus.dll, g2d.dll, one MVS80.dll and a few more (they may not be typed accurately because i'm not at my compluter atm they are just as close as I can remember). I have uninstalled all of my addons one by one and no difference. I've repaired dll's, no difference. I've formatted and then completely reinstalled Windows 7, no differnce. I have uninstalled my nvidia gforce 760's drivers and reinstalled them, no diffenrence. I bought an £85 ssd a few weeks ago purely for this to make it run smoother. This is happening almost evwry flight and i'll i've been doing is quick circuits around the airports in my pmdg737/777. It crashes at random stages, takeoff, cruiseing and (mostly) approach. Any help with this would be hugely appreciated because all I want to do is fly it! Thanks in advance, Andy
  14. Brilliant! Thank you very much for all of your help. The SSD is due to arrive tomorrow, can't wait to get it set up!
