Pretty sure no differance to any other modern 'game" Take a look at DCS and what their requirements are. You wont need a NASA powered PC

I don’t think it will be the same requirements as any other modern game, at least not current modern games. Games are tracking towards needing more powerful CPUs than they have over the last decade, and the new consoles seem to be compounding that direction too. I think this is going to be similar to modern games in 2020+, but will make proper use of beefy CPUs with all this aero calculation going on.

  2. I think they’ll get the gfx user settings wrong/confusing a la rdr2 leading everyone to say it has massive performance issues, when really it just extends into future, unreleased hardware.

i also think it will be a massive hit, perhaps surprising to some, and will lead to a renaissance of amateur modding to a very high standard.

my last hot take is that it doesn’t release until mid 2021

  3. I just read that earth simulator piece properly. That Jorg guy keeps mentioning forest fires in several things I’ve seen, and he says it again here and talks about rhinos and whales at the same time. I reckon this sim is going to get bat [wordnotallowed] crazy over the next few years. I don’t think that duck migration thing in the winter was a joke.

  4. I’ve got two plans sort of in my head (both of which will probably only last for the first one or two legs). 1 is to fly from Carlisle to Manchester vfr in a small, slow plane. Then from Manchester to heathrow in something a bit faster (ideally an sr22, but I don’t know if there are/ will be any decent versions of those?). Then London to Boston in the 747. Then I will fly over all of the nfl stadiums somehow.

2nd one is similar but all of the f1 tracks around Europe, current and old.

I'm a little worried about the future. MS has mentioned once briefly not to want a subscription. At the same time, the project is supposed to run for 10 years.

If the project is no longer profitable after 3 years, they could turn off the servers. Do we have any benefit then? Can we continue playing then?

I guess the minimum will be the ability to continue playing the offline version. Companies turning servers off has been a risk for a while now though. Ultimately they don’t really owe gamers anything and are unlikely to keep throwing money at something if it doesn’t make them any money. I think msfs will be successful though

  6. As someone who is basically subscribed to everything you can be subscribed to (it’s a problem), I’m pretty sure it will work like this:

option 1 - buy and download the game outright, then it’s yours to play forever.

option 2 - subscribe to ‘basic’ game pass and have access to download and play hundreds of games if you want them. When you stop subscribing then you can’t play the games (this is what I have now for game pass and origin).

option 3 - subscribe to game pass +, and have access to download OR STREAM the game pass library. This would suit people who don’t want to wait for downloads, don’t have the space for lots of downloads, play two minutes of games and move on, etc.

its a little bit like the way Spotify free and premium works just with different benefits. This is just speculation and they may have confirmed it doesn’t work like this by now, but it’s more logical than some of the confused madness above.

  7. Sounds like they are getting the balance just right. All the best, modern complex games are able to hide that complexity and introduce it gradually as the player is ready for it. For example, it sounds like the 747 will have total system depth but I bet there will be different stages you can jump in at, automated steps if you want to try and start from scratch but get lost, etc etc. Imagine there is a fully interactive tutorial scenario for a 747. Oh man.
