Reading my own explanation I see I wasn't quite clear trying to tell you about my flights. Anyhow I still get these freezes now and then and although they don't happen so often they appear at any time. I'll follow your advices moving the .cfg, the scenery,cfg and so on. It is written that DLL.XML and EXE.XML are in the same folder as SFX:CFG but I don't have any EXE.XML there. Can I find it in another folder or isn't it always needed. Gunbjo

I am not sure you understood my explanation of spent flyingtime. I usually try to limit each flight to 1 hour - 1 hour and a half, never more than 2 hours so these figures are the total sum before the crashes started. That's why I doubt my FSX.cfg would be the problem. I thought the easiest way was to reduce the autogene setting and see what would happen and that seemed to have solved the issue.But instead I got the message at the end leaving the flight "MFS has encountered a problem and will close". Well, I have only made one flight so far so I will make some more and see what will happen. I think it hard to belive it would be overloading the memory as it happened at that altitude. I'll check the VAS too anyway. I have never done it before. I have been using UTX Europe for a long time without the GEX because later I read that someone thought it was good enough all by itself. So not long ago I bought UTX USA and GEX NA but I have only installed the UTX because I'll see what it looks like all alone. What bothers me with Scenery Tech is that at certain places where it ought to be only rural areas with very few buildings they have placed so many buildings so it seems to be a sparse gardencity covering very big areas. Yes Jim, I know Bojote's is ment for earlier systems so what is suggested not to be good to have in the AvSim guides I have changed or deleted. As I said before I have been flying around the whole of Africa in a zigzag way spending certainly about 40 -50 hours without any issues and adding Middle-East and South Europe for about 15-20 more hours before this happened. But I'll ceartainly follow your advises searching what can have gone wrong. My settings are more or less like are suggested in AvSim, I guess. Level of d-radius = medium, Mesh complex. = 75, Mesh resolution 10 m texture res. = 1 m, water eff. = 1.x, scenery comp = dense, autogen density = very dense. The autogen dens. I increased from "dense" to "very dense" but it was before the Africa tour. My add-ons are FSGUX, UTX europe and Norh America, Scenery Tech landclass covering the rest and GEX. I also have IOS and IS3 to change the immage of the landscape but I don't think those will have any impact on CTD.+ The add-on airplane are only the DC-6 B and Hawker Heroes but yet no crash when using them. Anyhow I am more than satisfied with your and the others comments. And thank you Sabretooth for telling me your experiences. For information, I'm no Englisman but a Swede so I am sorry to say that certain abbreviations I haven't the faintest idea what they mean, like Sabretooth's FMC. Have many good flights Gunbjo

Thanks a lot for very comprehensive answers. Never too late to learn what and how to do things. I'll start removing the UIAutomation files and see what happens. I guess the second thing ought to be the xml.dll as it's mentioned in the eventlist. I have tried once flying the Caravan for about 1 hour without using IFR or any schedule and no CTD occured. So maybe it only happens with scheduled IFR flights. Jim, I have no tweaks others than those suggested in your tweak guide. When I have used the default SFX.CFG, FSX hasn't worked very well. I am still using Bojote's .cfg with the changes suggested in your guide and it hasn't ever caused any problems as far as I can understand. Bob, for not being a computer expert at all, you are pretty good in understanding the secret of computers, or rather how the programs work. AoA, My chrashes has happened more or less when I have reached the final altitude so it shouldn't be very high stress there. Hallo, I have followed your CTD guide hoping to find a solution but no luck. Until some weeks ago everything went smoothly.I had been flying all around Africa without any problems. I am Flying IFR with the Boeing 737- 800. Now in Berlin trying to go to Stockholm, after about 20 min. FSX was freezing. I have tried about 5 -6 times and all the times except the last one it has been freezing when I more or less have arrived 30000 feet. The last time it happened already after about 15 min and the event list didn't say anything about Dll.xml, but the time before the event list mentioned it. 1. I have Booster Driver and it says everything is upp to date. Instead I tried going back to the previous driver : Controller Audio, Video, game but no luck. 2. SFC tells everything is ok. 3. I don't think overheating or too high or low voltage can be the issues. I haven't touched the BIOS. 4. I think I have the latest UIAutomation core.dll. There are 3 of them. 5. I have checked Dll.xml and ran it manually. It was this time it frooze already after about 15 min and the event list didn't say anything about Dll.xml. Furthermore FSX never asked for a new module. It happened only at the start 6.UAC is at the lowest point. I have even uninstalled FSX and reinstalled it following your guide but invain I can't remember I have changed anything else except reinstalling GFX add-on shortly before these freezes started happening, but I have uninstalled it again. Thanks for your reply. I looked at Micrsoft support, and first trying different solutions nothing worked, but then I found something about a word in the register that should be written with two capital letters but turned out to be with only small letters. and this was the case with my register, So now FSX is running again. This error wasn't shown as a headline but inside the disscusion of another solution of the register. Regards, Gunbjo

Some days ago when I started FSX this error message appeared. I also got a major uppdate from MS with more protection of the computer, which I guess caused this message so now FSX runs like as I am testing it before buying it and after a while it stops, thanking me for the test. It is the boxed version. I thought that uninstalling and reinstalling it would solve this problem but in vain. Half a day wasted. So the issue must be in Win10. Maybe I should delete these uppdates if I can find them. What do you people think??? I have looked in the MS support but there is nothing there concerning Win10. The error code is 1-80004005 and the closest I get is 0-80004005 but it's about XP and WIN7. I do hope someone knows something about this. I am very thankful for any help. Thanks for the warning. I looked again in the compability settings and the setting was restored to "Win vista". When looking at the FSX box I saw it is made for Win XP and Win Vista so it is difficult to understand that it would create problems if I changed to XP. Well ,then I guess the important thing was the setting "Run as administrator". Anyhow, now FSX is running as smooth as before, even if there are some stutters( I think it is called) now and then but never mind. I like having a good view of the landscape. Greetings Gunbjo

Yesterday afternoon I started going through the CTD-guide and looking for the simpliest solutions to begin with. I started win up-date and there was one new upp-date but it didn't help. I can't still paste directly into this space. But I continued trying different suggestions and among them i looked in "Compatibility" were it was the setting WIN Vista. I changed to WinXP and had to check the" Run as an administrator" too. I think eighter of them or both were the solution because then FSX run even a little better from the beginning to the end. I think setting the compat. must be a very important way to avoid problems and issues but I haven't seen this anywhere earlier suggested as an important and easy way to avoid problems. Shoulden't this be maybe the first step to take when you start with FSX?? When using Win XP many years ago I remember having to set compat. to an an earlier version to be able to play an old game and it worked just fine. Is this also possible in Win7? Sorry, but this small window still appears . The setting of the browser prevent the editor to access the clipboard data directly, though the UAC is on the bottom. If I understand you right I should make a new topic, but the same is happening there too. I have tried both right-clicking and using the icons above but the same window appears every time. It is really frustrating.

I have got "Appcrashview too, which seems easier to use than "ProcessMonitor" so I'll attach 2 crashes hoping it can explain why the freezes happen. When trying to paste I get a small window asking me to use that with help of "CTRL/CMD+v". I've got no CMD key and CTRL+v doesen't work. When I tried WIN. EXPL .EDGE it says that the sicurity settings prevent me from pasting directly into this window. Can't understand why I, the user, shouldn't be allowed to paste some words into a text file. And I can't find which settings are causing this. Anyone out there knows how to change it?? I almost start to whish going back to winXP. Very few problems then compared to now. I have also tried Goggle Crome and get the same window but no explaination.

I thought I'd try to return to default configuration and now I see I've got 2 dll-xml files and 2 exe-xml files, the second of both the groups called "Before Add-on". Do I need both?? If yes, I shall put both in a temporary folder?? There are also Simconnect.xml and LWcfg.xml files. I don't touch them?? There are also several .cfg files. I only need to put scenery.cfg into a temp. folder?? Gunbjo

Hi again, One thing was solved but now I've got another problem that happened to me also in Win7. At the end of a pretty short flight from Malmoe, Sweden to Berlin the immagine freezes short before landing. I have tried it twice and it happen more or less at the same place. Readig what to do in your CTD guide" I downloaded "Process Monitor" and it seems to consist of 3 folders but when I try opening the manual I can see the headings but nothing happen when I'm clicking them. It seems as the manual is empty. If anyone has experience of it, please describe to me in steps what I've got to do to get something to send to this site. The program records everything from the moment it's started so 1 minute recording gives a several pages long list of events. Finally I managed to do it right, so now FSX is installed. It was this DOS command as administrator that was the key. I am adm. all the time so first I didn't understand the importance of using the DOS command, and the manual that I got from MS was from 2012 and there it was nothing about being an adm, so thank you very much indeed for your help. :smile: Gunbjo

I have bought a newer version of another app which I installed yesterday without problems.Why doesn't the same happen to this program?? I guess all the applications must use these windows installer files. Gunbjo

Thanks a lot for a quick answer, Chris. This has happened to me a couple of times before so I have already tried it once and no luck. After the "resetsldl -all" I received this answer: "Cleaning up Token Store at C:\Programdata\MICROSOFT\SLDL\\Softwarelicensing". Then it said: "Faild to delete the Token Store, Error HRESULT 80004005". Can I really continue at once with Accelration?? Mustn't I start all over again because I also receive this: "Drawing back the installation" Anyhow I will try again as the event log also pointed out this place. I don't know what to do. I have reformated and reinstalled win10 and when trying again to install the FSX Gold Edition (acceleration), at the end of DVD2 I get the error 1603 and the explanation that somthing is wrong with the WINDOWS installer. Win10 contains the ver. 5 and the WIN XP is using the ver.4.5. Could I have a too old ver. of FSX dvds? I never had any problems of this kind when I used WIN XP. I could use win7 for some year before it started to give trouble. Anyone understand this?? Should I buy a new FSX? Normaly I would write the code of the product key at the end of DVD2 and after that I would insert the acceleration DVD that has another code. Is the Windows installer part of WIN10 or is delivered together with FSX??? It seems to be part of WIN10 so it should not be any problem now, should it? I hope someone nows about this. Thanks a lot for all your help Jim, that I Have appreciated very much, and thanks to you Dozybee. I am sorry I wasn't very clear. Yes I have all the three DVDs. It's just that when finished DVD2 it never ask for DVD acceleration. It is like an own app. with an own product key. I used Win7 when the issues started and slowly it got worse, so finely I decided to change to Win10 hoping it would solve the issues. Earlier I got the error 1722 and looking in the Microsoft community they explain it as a general error message that states that a system level failure has occurred, mostly in the Setup program associated with registering fonts. The app resets .sldl files using DOS. "You are prompted for the license reset", they end the manual. I don't know if this issue, asking for a third DVD depends on if something is wrong on the HD or if it is the DVD. If it is the HD it wouldn't help buying a new FSX, I guess. If all the information on the DVD always go in just one direction from DVD to HD and never the other way around the issue is always in the computer except if you scratch the DVD too much, am I right? So the computer can't write on the DVD. Many thanks to all of you responding my questions.

Your last manual solved the problem of starting the install. There were dublicates of the idriver in Driver10 but they weren't enabled. It was the same in Driver11 but there was also a third idriverT and that one was enabled for Winxp. But almost at the end again the install ends up by asking for one more dvd.(It would be the third one even if it doesn't mention a number). It was in that way it started earlier with error 1722, and again it seems to be stopped showing the word "License. I downloaded earlier the "Licensing System Reset Tool" and ran it but it didn't help. Should I try it again? I know I have to do the uninstall again but together with the Reset tool? Or is it something else I can do???

I could only delete the TEMP file but then it stopped almost at once. Unfortunately this manual must be intended for the older versions of WIN and there are a lot of processes running but nothing like IDriver.exe. MS is not making things easy by often changing the file names not to mention everything else in the interface. It seems not to be any process in Win10 called something with "driver" in it, neither anything with "installer"in it.

Nothing seems to help, because I get this error message: 1628 after a while when it is trying to start the InstallShield wizard. It just means "Failed to complete installation". To me it seems as something has happened to the DVD now. Looking at it, the DVD has very very few scratches, hardly anything to be honest. My problem started in Win7 and I'm not sure if it will help buying a new FSX but of course it isn't that expensive compared to all the add ons I've got. What do you think? Perhaps it may be worth trying and if it doesn't work in Win10 I can try to change back to win7.

Thank you very much for the fast answer. Now I learned something more about these "Install shield" files. Otherwise I have done the things you are recommending. I have both CCleaner (free) and Revo Uninstaller so I think I have managed to get rid of all the FSX files. Is it important to uninstall GEX add-ons, Instant Scenery and Instant Object also?? At least the GEX files and Instant Object are put in folders outside FSX, but you can start IS and IO inside SMX . The more I think about this the more I'm sure I have to uninstall even these add-ons except the GEX files that can be inactivated. And I have the Uninstall - Reinstall manual too. As I didn't get any answer on my last question I try once more. My DVD stops after a while and doesn't even succeed in starting the Installshield program. I guess the program spare the IS in the Installshield folder on the HD so I would like to know for sure that there is no problem deleting the folder. The IS files are in GUID code so it's impossible to know which one is the FSX IS file and that's why I've got to delete the folder assuming the folder will be created again. And I think the IS file on the HD has become corruped and the program is choosing it instead of the one on the DVD. Hoping for help Gunbjo

Now I can't even start the InstallShield. I looked in the Microsoft forum and found an issue exact like mine and a solution as well but it didn't work. There is a folder with all the InstallShields. Is it safe to delete them? I think the dvd is using that folder instead of the folder on the disc. When I tried the Microsoft way the GameuxinstallHelper.dll ended up in the Steamfolder. Running the MSXML.MSI from DVD2 you can't choose where you want to place the content. I have also copied the GameuxinstallHelper into the windows\ SysWOW64 of course, but nothing I have tried will work. Really frustrating. Even if I bought a new program I'm not sure if it will solve the problem. The installShield files are all in GUID code and I guess they are all placed there by the different programs so it should be safe to delete them. Is there any way to translate or get to know which code = FSX?
