  1. I'm pleased to officially announce the release of the v2.2.2 update!

We've been hard at work in including a lot of new features in this version:

    • New: GTN 750 displays navigation charts! (where available).
    • New: GTN Audio Panel synchronizes fully with X-Plane audio panel.
    • New: GTN Controls X-Plane COM and NAV volume.
    • New: GTN COM TX/RX flags now supports the latest PilotEdge datarefs.
    • New: GTN Wind Vector map user field is now functional.
    • New: GTNDBFILE environment variable to select alternate database file.
    • Enhanced Ryan 9900BX TCAD to be less prone to spurious traffic alerts.

About the charts: the Garmin GTN Trainer includes about 1000+ charts for various airports mostly in the USA. These include airport, approaches etc... This is a great feature which overlays the geo referenced chart on top of the base map!

About the audio panel: previous versions were connected to X-Plane but only in one direction, that is any change in the GTN audio panel changes X-Plane audio panel. V2.2.2 now synchronizes in both directions! This is very handy when having 2 GTN 750 with audio panel enabled, as any change in one reflects in the other!

About the COM/NAV volume: the GTN volume knob located to the upper left corner is now functional in X-Plane and controls the respective volumes. This will come very handy with the updated PIlotEdge client which supports X-Plane volume controls as well!

About the TX/RX flags: the previous version included support for the basic PIlotEdge datarefs which signal TX and RX status. V2.2.2 improves on this and now offers support for the latest PilotEdge datarefs with separate COMNAV1 and COMNAV2 flags!

    Last but not least:

Reality XP installers and products have been using an 'autoupdate' system for nearly a decade now. This system prompts you whenever a new version is available when you start any of our product, or when you select the corresponding option in the installer. We'd very much like you let us know if you are actually receiving such notifications!

  2. Here is a status update for upcoming v2.2.2.

we've delayed the release in order to have time to implement a new feature: bi-directional audio panel synchronization.

Since release, the GTN provides bi-directional com/nav sync, i.e. changing frequencies in X-Plane updates the GTN and changing them in the GTN updates X-Plane. However, the audio panel is only updating from GTN to X-Plane.

For v2.2.2 we are (trying to) adding the bi-directional synchronization to the audio panel as well.

  3. First and foremost, the GTN installs in any aircraft with a click on the Reality XP plugin menu!

This will render in a popup window, that you can move and resize (you can even depress the SHIFT key while dragging the edges to resize proportionally). The last position/size gets saved and restored anytime you fly the aircraft again.

As for 2D/3D panel integration, it is quite simple too: with plane maker, you can get a look at the panel texture and choose the correct location/size in adding a dummy gauge (I wish x,y,w,h values gets displayed in the application but I've not found how). Once noted, remove the dummy gauge and use these x,y,w,h into the RealityXP.GTN.ini file.

After the release of the v2.2.2 update, I'll try to provide config files for a couple of default aircraft, this shall get everybody started, while waiting for third party developers to catch up and offer standard integration, like this upcoming Mooney 20:

  4. X-Plane is different to FS in that there is no 'gauge' and no 'panel'. Because of this, our plugin(s) use an in-house custom framework which allows us to design our gauges on top of a virtual panel and gauge abstraction.

In X-Plane, there are 'rendering' states which plugins take advantage of to render at the correct time. This permits rendering the popup window (window rendering state), into the 2D panel (2D panel state) and the 3D panel (3D panel state).

For that matter, we provide the means to configure the GTN for those 3 states in the RealityXP.GTN.ini file.

It consists in defining 'display' properties with their positions and dimensions, their type (window, 2d, 3d), and a couple of other settings. Then, you have to tell the gauge which 'display property' to draw to (with the drawto= setting).

With this in place, you can make the GTN render to any location/size both in the 2D panel and 3D panel, and you are not even limited to 1 instance: you can render 1 GTN to 2 or more 'render' locations!

  5. Thank you for the thorough investigation! I imagine they 'manage' the power under the scene and this makes other plugins having problems. I'll check this further on our end though but since our plugin just 'reads' the actual power bus current, I fail to see a reason on how this affects our code.

One thing you might want to further look at are the 'power' related datarefs with dataref editor and see how they change depending on the STMA PC-12 state?

  6. Hi,

Thank you for your kind words!

    First culprits are:

    Do you have avionics power?

Is the GPS (per X-Plane failures) failed?

Have you tried to connect the GTN to the copilot side? (X-Plane as separated sides, and you can connect the GTN to either!)

  7. Thank you for your kind words!

I've announced it a few days ago but I don't remember where, so I'll announce it again here:

As far as I know, it looks like the XP11 SDK is very close to the XP10 SDK and I hope it will be a straightforward port to XP11. So provided the X-Plane 11 SDK does not break everything and makes us work for months, all our customers will receive a free update to X-Plane 11!

  8. Hi Robert, and thank you for the report.

This is the kind of problem that can only be found thanks to the help of our customers because the covered areas are so vast, it is not possible to detect these discrepancies during beta testing alone.

It appears from time to time charts are not properly loaded. It seems to depend on the location you are flying to, and sometimes it seems dependent on the map overlay settings (even though these are not supposed to interact with the chart display).

We will look into this and keep you posted on the forum.

Please allow us the time to investigate, this is the kind of issue that can take some time to understand, then solve, as it is entirely trainer related only.

    Thank you for your understanding.

  9. This is not a problem and this is very easy: like mentioned in the manual, you just have to install the correct trainer. Once done, you can move/rename the indicated folders to your liking. Then and only then, you can proceed to reinstall the old trainer: the folders you have renamed, because you have renamed them, won't be deleted by the uninstaller!

But do you really have to install 2 trainers now, because I was under the impression the other product you are referring to is supposed to work with our trainer version?

  10. My wife wouldn't agree either LOL

Like you've well understood, The Garmin Trainer powering the backend of our GTN simulation comes with its authentic and real  (real as in the same in a real GTN) database. Actually it comes with 2 database:

    - Worldwide from Jeppesen (includes Americas)

    - Americas only from Garmin

You can choose from either one in the RealityXP.GTN.INI file saved in your aircraft folder. Please make sure to open our GTN manual for more details about this file.

Hopefully it is quite current a database per-sim need, but I also understand as time goes it will get older.

There is no legal ways to update the database for now but to subscribe to the real world database, or purchase a one shot update.

We are looking at innovative ways to offer such option to our customers, but please allow us to focus on the other products in the pipeline before we pursue this avenue.

  11. Thank you for your kind words!

When reading 'software being included' in third party aircrafts, this means they will specifically model the GTN in 3D in their cockpits, as well as provide the default settings, for having the GTN display and interact into the panel directly.

Out of the box, the GTN exposes a number of 'hooks' any third party vendor can use in order to control the GTN keys and knobs (X-Plane commands). It also exposes a number of 'data' to listen to the GTN (X-Plane datarefs).

The GTN also includes an extensive per-aircraft configuration system documented in the manual, which permits not only selecting the various features and modes (A/P link, Audio volume etc...) but also permits configuring any form of display.

This for example lets you configure the GTN, in the aircraft of your choice, for rendering into a popup window (default), the 2D panel and the 3D panel. You are not even limited in number of panels and can choose to display the same GTN in to different 3D panel locations for example!

As for the CDI, we use the X-Plane 'override' system. If you are not familiar with it, it is a feature provided by the SDK which lets third party plugins override X-Plane internal datarefs. This is how we manage to write the CDI deflection among other things.

In order for the GTN to display on the HSI for example, you have to make sure you have selected the correct options in the GTN menu, such as 'GPS -> HSI'. For the VOR1, you'd rather select 'GPS->VOR'. You have to make sure the GTN is also the 'master'.

The 'master' is the one which controls the autopilot system and feeds the HSI. We've designed the GTN to seamlessly integrate with other avionics, especially the default GPS. This gives you the latitude to have both the default and the GTN working at the same time, while ensuring via the 'master' which one of the two is in charge.

Also please note the GTN can be configured to be on the pilot or the copilot side. This is not related to the location where it displays on screen, it is related instead to which set of data it is feed from. In X-Plane, the two sides are separated and allows avionics on one side to receive its own side-related data.

Last but not least, the GTN is connected to the X-Plane 'failures'. Should you fail the GPS in X-Plane, ours will fail too!

  12. Some of you might have already noticed the RXP GTN v2.2.x already includes support for the TX/RX flags when using the PilotEdge ATC plugin. You might have also noticed the TCAD picks up the other aircraft flying around you!

In the next update, the RXP GTN will also include support for controlling the X-Plane COM and NAV audio volumes, along with the latest PilotEdge ATC datarefs.

This shall give you a seamless experience on their network!
