About Me

  • About Me
Been playing this game since about 1997 (FS98). I've learned so much from the flightsim community, and am still learning to this day, as there is so much I DON'T know.

    Where Simmers hail from

Orlando, Florida. Picked up a copy of FS98 in Osan Air Base, South Korea in 1997 out of boredom, looking for something to do while I was in the barracks. Got every copy that came out after that, up to FSX-SE, which is what I use, now. I haven't been able to justify moving up to whatever the new stuff is because I have too much invested in FSX-SE.

where have all the grey beards gone?? (experienced simmers)

Not exactly what you would consider a grey beard, but I do have grey in my 45 year old beard. I'm a long time simmer, but new to sim forums. Plan on making myself a mainstay here, though, to offer help as well as to seek out help. Are you still interested in the idea you laid out back in November?

    Trouble with Reinstalling into FSX-SE

Just want to say that I submitted the ticket as was requested, and they nearly IMMEDIATELY sent me the solution to the problem, which was a registry issue. They sent over a piece of software that corrected the issue, and my 737 is back. Great job!

    Trouble with Reinstalling into FSX-SE

I had the PMDG 737 NGX installed in FSX-SE, but decided to use my old FSX for awhile, so I deregistered the product through the FMC, redownloaded an installer and put it on FSX. The plane worked fine, but my sim didn't, so as previously stated, I went back to use the FSX-SE. So, again, I deregistered the 737 through the FMC, redownloaded another installer, uninstalled the previous install, and then relaunched it to install again back into FSX-SE. The problem is that the installer doesn't give me an option to install it anywhere, it just installs it. I launch FSX-SE, and it's not there. So, I read up a little to see if I could solve this problem myself. I uninstalled my old FSX install, and tried again. It "installs" somewhere, but it's not showing up in FSX-SE. I'm even cleaning up the registry with CCleaner, and it's still not installing. I deleted the folders from the FSX install that were left behind after the uninstall. Uninstalled the plane and reinstalled. Again, nothing. What am I doing wrong, here?

    Fuel Burns Way Too Quickly

Just wanted to say I figured the issue out. I'll explain. Sometimes, and I'm sure others have experienced this, when FSX loads the plane, it is loaded at like 10 times the gas that the plane can actually hold, which causes the plane to bounce when it loads. I would "fix" this by immediately slewing the plane to arrest the bounce, and then go into the FMC and load it at "2/3" or "1/3" full. Two things were happening at that point. One, it really wasn't loading at 1/3 capacity. It was actually more like 10%, and it was also causing the center fuel pumps to show a failure, so I wasn't getting really good flow at all, causing the problems I had told you all about. When I ensured that the tanks were filled to proper capacity, which sometimes takes a reboot of FSX, and loading another plane first, that issue stopped happening. If you guys know how to mark this as solved, please do so! Thanks for all the input!

Maddening Fuel Issue PMDG 737 NGX

To kill two birds with one stone, here, I'll answer two questions here. The fuel pumps are on. I got used to doing that with the Wilco bird I flew, previously. I also checked my failures, and cleared them out in the FMC. I also change all fuel through the FMC. The game kinda forces me to, because for some reason, when I load up the bird, it bounces around because FSX overfills it with fuel for some reason. So, I have to slew it to get it to quit bouncing, and then go with a standard fill through the FMC, all while the bird is "cold and dark". To further expand on this post, I was able to fly my last flight with normal fuel flow last night. I haven't tried to repeat this process again, today, but I will be soon. I am COMPLETELY unaware of what I may have done to make this work, but for that one flight, it did. Hoping for more of that!

    Fuel Burns Way Too Quickly

I didn't realize it was through the same forum until you pointed it out. I actually went into PMDG's website to ask them this question, and it pointed me to this. Sorry 'bout that. To answer the other questions you asked, here goes. Before I answer, though, I feel it only fair to point out that I just completed a flight without having this issue....but just in case it rears its ugly head again, I'll continue. (Not sure what I "did" to fix the issue) I use simbrief as my flight planner I used the flightplan simbrief gave me, circa AIRAC 1806 No weather addons The warning light in the plane would come on for fuel. No bells and whistles, though, and nothing on the FMC Depending on how I had it set up, I would have about 35 to 45% fuel.

    Fuel Burns Way Too Quickly

I just started using this plane, and I am experiencing a maddening issue with fuel. Seems that no matter how much fuel I put in this plane, which I am all doing through the FMC, I either run out of fuel before takeoff, or shortly after. I CANNOT complete even a very small flight without running out of fuel. I can't even make it down the runway in most circumstances. I assume I am doing something wrong, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what.

Maddening Fuel Issue PMDG 737 NGX

So, after learning how to fly the Wilco Feelthere 737, I decided to step up to the Big Leagues and purchase the PMDG 737 NGX 800/900 versions. It's been quite the learning curve over the Wilco plane. I think I've just about got enough info to get this thing into the air, but I'm hitting a MAJOR snag! No matter how much fuel I put into this plane, I run out of fuel either before getting to the runway, or very shortly after takeoff. I HAVE to be doing something wrong, I would imagine, but I cannot figure out what. This is hugely frustrating, but for those few seconds of flight I AM getting, I'm enjoying this bird. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I've got other issues, but I'm going to try to work them out on my own. For the moment, can I just safely assume that if I take off LNAV and VNAV, I can override the MCU by putting my own inputs into the other "traditional" altitude, heading knobs and activating them?

IT'S WORKING! That video was the trick! I've seen at least 20 other ones, but that one was the one that showed me what the problem was. It WAS an IRS functionality setup that I was doing wrong! Now, my plane's in the air. I hit LNAV/VNAV and it started towards KMCO! I'm not even having to adjust the speeds! I think I've got it from here, but much appreciated, Angels40!

I appreciate your responses, as you've been more than gracious and helpful. I'm pretty much a youtube junkie! I'll check this video out and try to seek out some more. Thanks for your continued advice!

The manual it came with is pretty good, but simply just doesn't cover these topics. At least, not in terms of what I'm having trouble with. So, I tried it again last night, and I got two messages on my FMC that revolved around the IRS. I can't remember exactly what one said, but the other one was "IRS in motion". I pulled up the IRS and it showed a negative number on the screen. I took off and had to do a completely manual go around and land at KMCO because, again, the autopilot did absolutely nothing. I couldn't click the autopilot buttons, or VNAV or LNAV for that matter. As a reference, my flight director was on, I was over 1000', and I made sure I tried these at times where I had no pressure on the yoke. So, I'm assuming that my autopilot problems now have something to do with this IRS. How, exactly, do I align them, and more importantly, how do I know if it is aligned at all? I assume there should be no movement from the plane until such time. Correct?
