  1. Hi all. Could someone explain to me what can be brought to a second monitor in MSFS and how to do it? Thanks so much. This community is so great! Rob P.S. How come I always click Notify me of replies but I never get any kind of notification. Would be great if I did.
  2. Hi folks. Well I have gotten able to take off and fly straight. That's a beginning. OK so I am looking at my altimeter (Cessna 152) on the ground and it says like something 2040 feet. When I am in the air I will be just over the houses and it will say like 4000 feet. I pressed 'b' to set the altimeter while on the ground but it still says 2040 feet while idling on the runway. Can someone please explain what I am doing wrong and if I am not doing anything wrong, how am I misinterpreting the data? UPDATE: OK I see that Las Vegas is actually roughly 2000' above sea level so obviously that's what the altimeter in the plane is showing me. But then how do I get a reading of how high above the ground I am rather than how high above sea level I am? Thanks so much folks, Rob P.S. On a side note, I always check the "Notify me of replies" thing at the bottom of the post but I never get any kind of notification. How do I get set up so that I actually get notifications of some kind?
  3. I wanted to try a bunch of new settings so I made a copy of usercfg.opt on my desktop. I made all the setting changes and tried the app. Didn't like the result so I restored the old copy of the file. However now the app says there is an error and the program won't start. Was I wrong to assume I could save and restore that file to the system? UPDATE: Apparently it was my machine that was confused. There seemed to be a ghost occurrence of the program running somewhere in the system. Once I restarted the whole machine I was able to restore the usercfg.opt file and start the app.
  4. OK I haven't used the program for a little while. When I started up the program there were several updates to apply. They seem to have been applied fine. I checked the content and nothing shows needing an update. But all of a sudden, I have the ability to take off with my little Cessna 152 but once I'm up in the air I lose all access to my yoke; nothing works. It's like the plane is flying itself. I don't know what changed. It's not like I've completely lost the yoke because I was able to take off successfully. It's only after I'm up in the air that I lose all controls. I checked the external view to prove the controls were not moving anything on the plane. Ideas? I'm dead in the water until I figure out this one. UPDATE: The problem only happens when I am in external mode looking from the outside of the plane. From the cockpit everything is working fine. UPDATE: Found another thread that talked about the same thing: Problem was I was going into Drone Mode so I could not control the aircraft. Once I pressed the "C" key to revert control back to the plane, everything worked correctly. These are the kinds of things that screw me up because I am such a newbie :-). Rob
  5. I am new to flying at all so I am letting the simulator give me help. But every time the app posts a message to press a key, the key is shown as a black bordered square with a letter in it. But the letter in it does not do anything so the symbol itself for the key in the message is not being displayed properly. Here's an example of a message: 'Incorrect heading indicator. To set the heading indicator press (and then there's the black square with a letter d in it). Doesn't make any sense and it happens with lots of messages the app is trying to give me. Can anyone make sense of this? Some kind of translation is not occurring properly. Please help if you can. Thanks much.
  6. Just realized my 50" does not have display port (only HDMI). However, still interested in knowing if using a non-gsync monitor is a bad idea.
  7. Hi folks. So, I have a 32" Asus Predator monitor with g-sync. Running MSFS it looks great. However, I really want a bigger viewing area and don't want bezels in between multiple monitors. I have a good 50" 4K monitor but it does not have g-sync. Do you think I would suffer to give up g-sync? Does everyone use g-sync or freesync or do some of you not use either. Help with understanding what my sensible options are would be greatly appreciated. I have the machine to support 4K (Intel i9-10900K, ASUS TUF 3090 OC24, ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII WiFi motherboard, 32GB of 3600 RAM, and all solid state drives).
  8. Windows, for all the CH products, tells me to use the CH Control Manager. I thought that wasn't even supported in Windows 10.
  9. A plain old Cessna 152. That's why I don't understand the training session telling me I'm not going fast enough. I will check out what you said about calibrating.
  10. I am using a CH Eclipse yoke and CH throttle quadrant. Is there some way to calibrate the throttle control in MSFS. I see sensitivity but I don't see calibration.
  11. Hello again folks. So I am going through the built-in training videos in the app. The first two went well. But I am stuck on the third because of fact that every time I apply full throttle and move down the runway, the video tells me I am not going fast enough to take off and starts me all over again. At full throttle and the parking brake released, I seem to be at an air speed of about 80 when the video fails. What am I supposed to do? I readily admit I don't understand flight concepts very well yet which is exactly why I am taking the lessons. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Rob P.S. Anyone know why I always set the flag to notify me of replies yet I never get notified when they come in?
  12. The x in the circle was in the actual objective instruction in the training video. I could not get past it until I pressed letter s.
  13. That's so weird, pressing "S" did it but why is it showing an X in a circle? How are you supposed to know what that means? No I am using CH yolk and standard Windows keyboard and mouse.
  14. Charliearon, no it just looks like a letter x inside a circle.
