  1. You're right, it's mostly trial and error, but it helps to have some sort of starting point. I'll take a look at my settings and see how close they are to what you have. I pretty much have my sliders set where I am comfortable and don't cause too many issues. My main issue was the screen flashes and the severe stutters and jerky motions during turns. A lot of that went away with the last tweak I added which was the RT. I still get an occassional flash here and there, but nothing I can't deal with. I would like to eliminate those annoying stutters though. Maybe when I can upgrade my GPU most of those will go away as well. This 1GB VRAM just don't get it.
  2. Well, I tried the poolsize you gave me and I got really severe jitters, especially when I turn. So I set Usepools to 0 and added the RT you gave me, and things seemed to improve another 10% bringing me to 90% over the stock settings. I still get a slight jitter during turns, depending on the scenery. I think 90% is about the best I am going to get from this old rig. 90% isn't all that bad, it's tollerable. This is the first forum I was able to get a direct answer to a question. I've tried those design forums and all I get is answers with a bunch of links to previous inquiries from several years back. I don't have the time to sit here and read through years of threads just to find a simple answer to a question. Thank you so much for giving me exactly what i asked for. It did help. I think it was adding the RT tweak which I have never seen before, that actually helped. I don't think this GPU is going to be able to use the poolsize due to the low amount of GRAM it has. I am going to upgrade and perhaps that will let me use the poolsize to tweak things a little more, maybe get to that 95% that I am pushing for, not even going to try for 100, I doubt this thing would ever get there. 95 would be perfectly fine with me. Again thanks for the direct answer.
  3. I will give those a try and see what happens. I don't get blue boxes flashing, I get black ones.
  4. I have the older box version which needs the tweaks to run smoothly. I have never seen the RT tweak before, do I put it in the same place as the Bufferpools?
  5. Could anyone tell me what I should set my bufferpools to for a Nvidia GTX960 with 1GB VRAM? My GTX980 bit the dust and had to go back to the 960. The 980 was working fine with bufferpools set at 0, but now with the 960, it still runs without too much stuttering, but I keep getting anoying screen flashes, probably because I dropped from 4GB VRAM to 1GB VRAM, I am waiting to find another 980 at a decent price to replace the one that crapped, for now I have to use the 960 but these screen flashes are distracting. I've been playing around with the bufferpools but I either get serious stutters or I get really bad screen flashes. What would be a good "sweet-spot" setting for my bufferpools with only 1GB VRAM?
  6. Ok, I completely removed FSX ,files, folders, reg entries, the works, re-installed FSX completely starting as if it never was installed. Ok, got all of textures back and all is well at that point. Here's my problem, none of the Airport Background exclusions are working. I have an ADE project that I've been working on and using for the past several years now. That project was working 100% perfectly before I made the mistake of installing FSDTs GSX addon. GSX was interfering with my FPS so I completely removed it, that's when it all went to hell and back. None of my Excludes in the project work, I can't exclude autogen or mask class anymore, plus..get this now, my terrain keeps modifying itself even during game play on FSX. I mean it puts in hills where there were none, trees where there were none, water slopes where it was flat, I mean it is as if FSX just suddenly takes you to a different location, but remains in the current location, this happens randomly at different times of the day. I use a lot of ground vehicles to travel between different areas of the project, and I will be driving down a road, everything looks normal, then all of a sudden, the screen will flash for about 1/2 second then the terrain just completely changes shape, this is all while FSX is running now. How is that even possible? You can't modify an ADE project without shutting down FSX and recompiling the project. It won't work that way, but yet, somehow it does it during game play at that. Explain that one. I've been on FSdevolper and I'm getting no help from there. I can't get them to understand, it was working 100% fine BEFORE I installed GSX. After removing GSX is when it quit working. Everyone just seems to ignore that statement. They keep telling me I did something wrong with my vectors and stuff like that, how can that be when no mods were done BEFORE installing GSX and everything was working 100% before that point.
  7. In other words, have two FSX installations, would that even work, don't FSX modify your registry and wouldn't that mess up the original installation? I'm thinking maybe installing onto a 'virtual machine' only problem is I never installed win11 from discs, I did the free upgrade from win10 to 11. When you create a virtual machine, it has no OS on it, you have to install one, I have to purchase win11 to get the OS. I may have to do that and just install FSX onto the VM and actually just use it there.
  8. Is there any way I can get a NEW FRESH main texture folder? Mine is messed up. It happened when I installed GSX and then uninstalled. Ever since then I can't get any textures to work right, I have no sun or moon showing except sometimes i get a white square box where the sun is supposed to be. None of my CVX exclusions work at all anymore. I've re-installed EVERYTHING other than the OS itself. I think some stuff was modified in my texture folder that somehow didn't get replaced or is still being modified whenever I start FSX. It works the first time I start it after the install, but if I ever have to restart FSX then the texture folder everts back to the modified one. Something keeps modifiying the system. I'm not a professional programmer or computer tech, so I don't know anything about Windows file system or file structure or anything. I think GSX must have modified something on the actual OS that keeps loading and replacing the texture folder with the one that don't work. I have no idea how this is being done even when I completely deleted every single copy of the old and damaged texture file, including backups of it. I need a good working copy of the texture folder without having to re-install FSX for the 3rd time.
  9. I used the GSX uninstaller and removed EVERYTHING pertaining to GSX. I have recently re-installed FSX (had no choice at this point) ,it got my water textures back, but now none of my background exclusions work at all. I now have vegetation in the middle of my roads and runways. I've been working trying to fix that for days now but having no luck. I haven't actually been able to have any enjoyment from my sim since I installed the BIG MISTAKE gsx. It really messed things up. And yes, in my search for answers, GSX DOES modify textures, and some very important system files in FSX, unless you are a programmer, there is NO WAY to return these modified files back to their original state. You will have to do a complete re-install of the sim. However as it has now been established, even that will not return it to 100% functionality. The only way I know to do that is to install FSX on a completely 'fresh' computer. GSX modifies things and they are permanent unless you are familiar with what files do what and know how to edit those files and remove whatever modifications were made to them. I've been trying to fix the 'background exclusion' thing for days and not having any luck. I don't know where to go from this point now. I'm probably going to purchase a copy of win11 on disc so I can create a Virtual Machine and just install FSX,ADE,MCX,SBX,etc.. onto it and use it only for simming and nothing else. Hopefully the VM will bypass whatever GSX has messed up on the main computer. This is the final solution I can come up with. I'll never install another addon that has to install itself into FSX and start messing with files. The only addons I will put in will be aircraft and other non-evasive addons. This tought me a very important lesson. One i will NEVER forget.
  10. I have no water effects at all now. I tried replacing the texture folder with a backup, didn't help any, replaced all the water textures with backups, didn't help, slider is at max, no fix, advanced animations is on, no fix, I cannot get my water effects back now, the water is nothing more than just painted space with no waves, no nothing. I wish now that I had never installed that stupid GSX addon, it has completely screwed up the sim. I hate addons that modify your system files and don't give you a backup of the files it changes so you can't restore everything back to it's original state, so now I'm stuck with ugly water, no reality at all.
  11. Disc Acceleration version. I also noticed my water textures look like nothing but a bloch of color with no textures to it at all. Changing the slider to 1x high shows some texture but anything in the 2x setting shows no texture to the water. I think GSX really messed up my sim's system files.
  12. I need some help. I recently tried to install this GSX from FSDremaTeam, and it totally screwed up my sim. I managed to remove the GSX but now my 'sun' texture is nothing but a pink square box in the sky. I had a copy of my original sun textures and tried replaceing the textures, but still have nothing but a square pink box instead of the sun. I have made a bunch of mods to the sim and added a lot of addon airplanes, I don't want to have to re-install FSX again. I went through that once already and it's areal pain to have to put everything back in and get it running smoothly again. How can I get the sun back or simply just remove the darn thing altogether ,I can live without it. That stupid square box is annoying, I'd rather have no sun show at all than to have that big, square, pink box up there.
  13. Is there a way to get vehicle links to ignore the APR elevation. I want to create a 100 ft. mountain and have the 'roads' follow the slope up the mountain instead of staying flat at the Airport elevation. I found some suggestions on Google, but none of them work. I know it would work with a Road Vector, but there is a "Dock" at the end of the vehicle link that I cannot link to the network using a vector. I need to keep the 'link' but I can only do that with a Vehicle Link, but they don't follow terrain elevations.
  14. Does anyone know what files are used for Apron textures in FSX? I want to go in and 'fix' the Apron Textures ,specificaly the 'Grass' Texture. You expect grass to be green, but the 'Grass" Apron is more of a brown color. I would like to find the texture files for that and go in and edit the texture and give it some color. Does anyone know where those files are and the filenames for them? Or is there some replacement textures for Aprons in FSX. I have some 'terrain' replacement textures I downloaded from another site, but they only change the Terrain textures and not the Apron textures. I have to use Aprons in certain spots ,but I hate the brown grass.
  15. Bad Move! Everything went haywire when I turned off HT. Computer kept going to the B.O.D. and programs couldn't find drive paths that were there. Turned HT back on and everything went back to normal. Probably a Win11 thing. Since Win11 was installed with HT enabled, I don't think it likes it when it ain't there.
  16. I'll just give it a try and see what happens.
  17. I will go in and dissable HT and see what happens. Will doing that affect the computer's performance on other things much?
  18. Ok, so I have a Quad Core CPU with Hyperthreading turned on, from what I understand that makes the computer act as if I have 8 cores, and 8 cores is what shows up when I run my CPUID information. So what number would I set the AffinityMask to? Also, does FSX constantly read the HD that I have some scenery installed on? And is it constantly read/write to the SSD that I have FSX installed on? Could the fact that some of my custom scenery is installed onto an external HDD be causing my FPS to constantly Jump Arround?
  19. At first I had no problem with Win11, it was only after about 6 months that problems started to appear. I have the developement kit and I've done a bit developemnet to the sim already. I was just wondering if their were other developement sites out there. Have you ever had a situation where you have an area in an airport that for some odd reason FSX won't let you add any Land Class or even any Flattens to the area. Well I have one, the airport I'm using is a custom one that I made, and until a couple of days ago it was working fine. But now when I use ADE to add a Land Class such as a forest, it won't show up in the sim. It only shows flat and empty space there, it won't even show the default land which I know by looking at the Google Earth view has mountains in that area. They don't even show up without any flattens or anything there. Is there like some setting or something in the .cfg file that I may have inadvertantly changed while trying to fix the FPS problem. Also, what would cause my FPS to jump around so much? It has gone so far as 38FPS (which proves my rig can handle higher Frame Rates) but keeps jumping all over the place, sometimes dropping to as low as 9FPS then jumps back up to the 20s and somethimes 30s. Is there something in the .cfg that controls FPS and/or displaying of visuals and scenery? I did have a PhotoReal Scenery in that area at one time, but I deleted it completlly, it was messing with Frame Rates. But it acts like it's still there. I've looked all over my scenery folders to make sure I removed all of those files. I'm almost convinced it has something to do with my .cfg. I am first going to try deleting the .cfg and let FSX create a new one to see what happens. (Of course I'll backup my old one)
  20. I just did something that surprised me completely. I uninstalled the MS XBOX app from the system, it gets installed when you install Win11. After I did that and re-booted, my FPS shot up to 37FPS ,still has the FPS jumping all over the place, but it now stays around 2 for the lowest. GEt this though, the XBOX app has NEVER been used and doesn't run in the background, however it did clear up a good chunk of drive space. Could it possibly be that I need a larger SSD for my main drive? I have to install FSX onto the main C drive because all other drives are External and the two other drives in the computer are too full for FSX. FSX won't let me install to a external drive. If I need a larger C drive, that's no problem since SSDs are getting much more affordable now. I could upgrade to a 1TB.
  21. This is a little off topic, but I just want to ask a quick question, are there any other developement sites for FSX that I may be able to get some help on other than FSDeveloper. They are ok, but the people there are more or less professionals and do this for a living, I need a site I can get help from that is more aimed at the novice developers.
  22. Also, I did check out all the fans, they are running as expected, they were a little dusty, cleaned all of that off. I replaced the thermal paste both on my CPU and my GPU. I took out all the RAM sticks and cleaned the contacts with alcohol, sprayed dust cleaner into the sockets, replaced a couple of mismatched RAMs, they all are the same speed now. I did a thorough overhaul of the system top to bottom, still I got maybe a 5% improvement, but not that noticeable. I still feel it has something to do with the GPU not being compatible. I'll know when the parts come in for my old 6800 AMD GPU. Oh, and I did have a problem at one time with overheating, that has been solved now. I can't think of anything else to do. I know one thing, I wish I could revert back to Win10 without having to do a complete format and re-load of everything. It's been too long so I can no longer revert back. Win10 ran so much better than Win11. I doubt MS will ever get it to run like Win10 did. The two best OS have been WIN7 and WIN10 so far. I'm actually starting to hate Win11.
  23. I'm actually going to do that. I agree with you, Ive looked at some of the threads in other places about the later versions of FS, and most people are not that satisfied with them and like you either go back to FSX (not steam,it also has its problems) or P3D. So far those are the two sims that most people like. I've never tried P3D, but most people seem to be satisfied with it as well. I've got the skills to repair the old 6800, so I'm going to purchase the parts for it and slap that thing back in here and see what results I get from it. I've done probably more than anyone else has done to try and improve my performance on here, with no luck. It's working OK for the time being, still a lot of stutters and FPS drops though. I am just convinced now that it isn't the computer itself, but the GPU just not being compatible with the Intel CPU. If the 6800 does perform better, then I will see about just purchasing an upgraded AMD GPU instead of Nvidia. AMD is still kinda pricey, but not as much as Nvidia. I kind of like AMD better anyway, I only switched to Nvidia because that is what everyone else was using and was suggested by many people on other sites. But doing the research, I found that Nvidia just doesn't fair well with Intel, most people using Nvidia have AMD CPUs and not Intel. I think Intel is geared more toward the business end and not gaming, where AMD is putting their money where it counts, there are more people using home pcs for gaming than for business, and that is backed up by statistics, look it up, I did. Intel needs to jump on the bandwagon for gamers, they have good CPUs but compatibility is a big issue with them.
  24. I know, I used to run a AMD 6800 GPU on this thing and it actually ran better than the Nvidia 960 I had in here, I have a 980 now, but haven't really seen any improvement in performance. I am actually thinking about buying the parts to repair my old AMD card, it just needs a fan on it, and consider putting it back in here and see what happens with performance. Luckily I have the mini-tower Optiplex 980 machine instead of the slim tower, so full length cards actually fit in this thing. Another thing I think may have affected performance is when I upgraded to Win11, FSX ran great on Win10, but because support for Win10 ended ,I had no choice but to upgrade which meant upgrading EVERYTHING including the CPU, just to make it compatible with Win11. That seems to be the point where performance started to deteriorate. I'd love to get this thing back to its original performance, without having to dish out $2000+ for a new machine just to run a sim on. FSX used to run so nicely on this machine even before any of the upgrades. I bought this thing online for $180 12 years ago, it was just the stock machine with Win7 on it. Had an i7 2.4GHz CPU and 4GB RAM, I put in the AMD 6800 Radeon card, and FSX ran just as good on it as it would on a high end gaming machine, never gave me any problems. Those were the good ole days. My brother gave me FSX Acceleration as a gift and I was hooked the moment I installed it. I'd love to see it run as it did back then now with all the extra addons and improvements in some of the textures and things. I just don't think I can solve the FPS problem. I've done all the suggestions given here and online, but either they don't do anything at all, or they make it worse. Just don't know what else to do from here. Like I said, I may just go back to the AMD Raedeon 6800 card and see if anything changes. This machine may just not like Nvidia. I have heard some people have had compatibility issues with Nvidia and Intel CPUs, they don't like each other for some reason.
