January 4, 201412 yr I have FSX setting in FSX Weather menu to 80/mi... In ASN it's set to the (default) 90/90mi as far as max and min cloud draw distance. Should all three be set the same distance? What setting do you all run? I know most run in FSX menu with 70/mi for performance and realistic visibility (IIRC). Thanks! Chris Camp
January 5, 201412 yr asn will override what settings you have in fsx settings I believe I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
January 5, 201412 yr yes, ASN override the clouds distance in fsx! So in fsx I left 60mi and in ASN my settings are 90/120
January 6, 201412 yr I had been using 200/200, but just discovered that anything above 189 causes ASN (v 1.0.5099.6239) to not refresh clouds outside a bubble with a radius about 200nm. I was on an IFR flight and after around 200nm simply 'ran out of weather' and emerged into clear skies, even though the METARs around (and ahead) were all showing cloud and rain. After all, the manual says that anything above 150 is "use at your own risk". So now I'm using 189/189 and it's working well for me. Cheers, David
January 6, 201412 yr Author Wow what kind of an FPS hit is there going from 90 to 200nm...? Chris Camp
January 7, 201412 yr It's a bit of a hit - down to 6-7 FPS at some points in really heavy weather! But I prefer good looks rather than super-smooth performance. Most of the time my quad 3.2GHz CPU, Intel 4600 graphics and 8GB RAM handle things OK. Much of the time, the area that I mostly fly in has CAVOK and high visibility, with relatively light other loads (like AI traffic, city autogen, complex airports, etc). So the hit for a 200nm cloud radius is only really noticeable in cloudy weather ^_^ Cheers, David
