June 10, 200223 yr I've posted some shots of the 757 over at the Norwegian flightsim forums, and there is someone who says that the cockpit windows are too high. There should be a step down from the cabin to the cockpit. So I went over to see some real pics of the 757,and there seems to be something in it.The cockpit on the PMDG 757 are higher than it is on the real aircraft.Could someone please enlighten me on this issue.....I'm defending Fly2 and the PMDG products on my neck here :)here are the PMDG 757http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3cfaf6132f5d6804.jpgAnd here are the real..http://www.airliners.net/photos/small/2/1/7/183712.jpgAnd a drawinghttp://members.chello.se/slash/757_view.gifJohnny"I'LL BE BACK"[div align=center]http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/josve/fly2/vas.gif][/div
June 11, 200223 yr Johnny,I'am going to go out on a limb and try to give you my UNOFFICIAL answer. No, I believe the cockpit windows are correct in position. What is different is the size and location of the cabin windows and doors. The bottom of the doors are about 10 pixels low which in turn makes the windows about the same distance out of alignment. Now as unofficial repainters, Grant and I have noticed this in the course of working on several repaints, but because of the opening front door, we are unable to move everything up the required distance and resize the windows and doors accordingly. We noticed this too late in the process to alert PMDG of these differences and changing the basic model to accomodate the changes at this time is not being planned. Changes to the S3D model would require a rebuild and code changes that are outside of our license. We've attempted to accomodate these differences in out repaints but there will be some compromises necessary to provide a convincing livery. I did do a livery change by just moving the windows up the necessary distance and resizing them to suit, but that resulted in a less than satisfactory result and I've reverted to the current position and sizes for the cabin windows.Let me stress, this is my UNOFFICIAL knowledge of the 757 model and Robert may have an entirly different view.Even with this displacement, the 757 is still a fine piece of work.Pete http://www.precision...GX_Dev_Team.jpg PMDG Graphic Designer
June 11, 200223 yr I agree with you Peter! Nice piece of work. It's just that the fs2002 clan always find something to pick on......And in cases like this,I don't know what to say.Johnny"I'LL BE BACK"[div align=center]http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/josve/fly2/vas.gif][/div
June 11, 200223 yr Johnny,No need to say anything to the KLAN. Just direct them to PMDG for an official answer. Why try to affirm the "my toy is better than yours" syndrome. I do agree with Pete's statement. Certain repaints, especially with stripes involved are more difficult. It may be a combination of both passenger and cockpit windows, and doors combined, not sure, but PMDG contends that the specs are right. Visually it looks good and correct, but something may be in need of adjustment to be able to paint certain liveries. Anyway, that is my "unofficial" contribution to this thread.Grant
June 11, 200223 yr I agree with you Grant!! Personally I don't like the "mtibty" syndrome either, and i'm also sure that PMDG got the model as right as possible.Johnny"I'LL BE BACK"[div align=center]http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/josve/fly2/vas.gif][/div
June 11, 200223 yr >i'm also sure that PMDG got the >model as right as possible. Are you really sure about it ? I am not.It is posible that on their list of priorities visual model was nowhere near the top (and I fully agree with it) but objectively if we are here to evaluate it - it is very hard for me to rave about it.Michael J. June 12, 200223 yr Commercial Member Michal. et al-In my experiences I've found you to rave about quite a few things, MJ... but in such a fashion that is nearly always wearisome to those of us who actually put work *into* the hobby...For those that are interested- Peter and Grants explanation of the problem is correct... The misalignment is in the artwork, not in the model form. If you examine the outline shape of the nose carefully you will find it to be correct, but the pax door/windows are not aligned correctly...This defect was unfortunately not noticed until I sent a PaintKit beta to grant and peter- which was after the code freeze on the airplane. For those who have produced projects like these before, you will understand how difficult it can be to back up after a code freeze...We are examining the pros/cons of a fix.... If we were to issue a fix, it would probably be only to Pete/Grant for their repaints- and not be made an official patch to the product, as this would cause massive versionality problems.Robert S.
