Spoiler Sound

ook a united pilot was at my school the other day and I got to have almost a one on one with her (no sexual connotaton).. She said that on landing, the brakes are never used before 60 knots at the max because they are not effecient at higher speeds. Thats why there is reverse thrust. Likewise, unless you are on a gulfstream where the carbon brakes are extraordinarly expensive to replace, you dont use reverse thrust below 60 knots because that is ineffective and dangerous. Therefore I doubt that any plane brakes the second they touch down :)One question tho,is it SOP to engage the reversers when the mains touch down, or when the nosegear touches down?

No problem Randy. :-)Jamie,I believe you can engage them as soon as the main wheels touch, but you have to pull them through an interlock which pretty much ensures at least 3 seconds delay before they activate. By then the nosewheel would be on the ground.

oook......very long discussion! Activate reversers when touching down with the mainwheels if the runway is too short, or you have to take the next exit, no noiserestrictions,.....and the pilot wants to annoy the neighbourhood. in europe , especially in germany, we have these restrictions and we do not use them if we have enough runway lenth and other good conditions. BUT: My intention with this BIGGGG thread was to convince the PMDG developers to make a spoiler sound and a real cockpit on ground sound with A/Cons and cooling equips!so....i want to know if i will here the spoilers in flight and on ground ,if not that would "spoil" :) the whole productthanxand please do not discuss here if the guys high above use reversers or not.....they do, when it's their mom's birthday, ok?!sam

Hey Everybodya really long discussion about the last stage of the flight. During Normal Operation you use the Reversers on the B737 ine Idle Position (Interlock Position) or the 1st Detend Position which is used most of the time. Expect when special conditiones existfor example short runway etc. In Europe there are many noiseestrictions. I think the restriction : DO NOT USE MORE THAN Idle Reverses is on most the Aiports: Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Berlin TXL, .........Most of the Airpots don`t check this regulation. But a the Stuttgart Airport there was a CPT of an German Charter Airline who had much trouble, because he had used Full Reversers. Sound for PMGD: In the Cockpit of the B737 at Speeds above 320 Kts FL100 the volume of the wind increase very fast. Maybe a new Sound for the B737NG from PMGDYour SincerlyTill

On a 767 you will engage them as soon as your main wheels touch, there's no need to wait to fly the nose to the runway and the spoilers will deploy if you have followed the landing checklist by engaging ARM, if they do not deploy (first thing to watch for) they must be manually set. The other thing is that you MUST cut the reversers at 70 knots or there abouts because there's a good chance of sucking something into your muti million dollar engines. As to the 737, I will have to check but I am sure the cutoff speed remains the same...[h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smith[/h5][h6]Are You Ready For The Next Great one? Pretty much Randy, on most Boeings it's idle at 60kts, and have began to get out of reverse at about 80. That must be IAS, right?

Well, those flying to Daytona can rest assured Delta uses reverse thrust on landings here with their MD88's. Anytime we have a north wind, I can here their nightly 2345L arrival into KDAB doing a hearty reverse thrust and that is at about 1 mile south of the field to my house.

Hello, I have my spoilers armed and engage the thrust reversers after my nose wheel is on the ground. I let the autobrake control the brakes which pretty much engages them after main gear touchdown. I disengage the thrust revsers at 60kts. I leave the autobrakes on until around 30kts then disengage them with manual braking to bring me to a suitabel taxiway. If it's a high-speed exit I'll taxi off at 20-25kts or if it's a tighter turn I'll use 8-10kts. I think that tmakes for a smooth deceleration. I don't normally use too much reverse thrust, idle reverse is normal good for me. More if I feel there is a need for it!
