May 21, 200323 yr Commercial Member Andreas-We are not including a separate flood light function. Robert S. Randazzo PLEASE NOTE THAT PMDG HAS DEPARTED AVSIM You can find us at: http://forum.pmdg.com
May 22, 200323 yr OK, so there will be no night lighting beside the instrument lighting you already presented as a screenshot?
May 25, 200323 yr take a look:http://www.airliners.net/open.file/297675/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/294127/L/
May 26, 200323 yr Moin Andreas, danke :). Wollte allerdings auch zeigen, dass man selbst bei T/O und LDG ein kleines 'flood-light' hat.Bj
May 26, 200323 yr Commercial Member Gents,Of course there is instrument backlighting for the 737. As Robert mentioned above, there are no plans for a floodlight function at this point.Vin ScimonePMDG www.precisionmanuals.com Vin Scimone Precision Manuals Development Group www.precisionmanuals.com
May 27, 200323 yr Well, I hope that PMDG reconsiders this topic. The Panel lighting displayed in your recent screenshots need a little more attention, especially when we compare this to the rest of your product. I would definitely like to see some kind of "flood light" effect inside the cockpit.Best regards,Norbert Tretner
May 27, 200323 yr Commercial Member Norbert-I will be completely honest: There's no time to redo the entire panel so that we can add flood light effects. This would require redoing all cut-up gauge bitmaps, adding two or three bitmaps (with different night lighting for each one).I am absolutely convinced about the usefulness of this, however it will be an item on the 800/900 agenda, not for the 600/700 release. If you consider it THAT important to stall the entire release, well, our entire PMDG team disagrees ;-).Cheers, Lefteris Kalamaras - Founder www.flightsimlabs.com
May 27, 200323 yr Thank you for your response.I respect your decision and I will say that you have a great product, however, in all honesty I have now reconsidered purchasing the 600-700 NG. It doesn't make much sense to buy a product that is not complete, especially since you mentioned that this feature will be implemented into the 800-900, which now may be the better buy. I understand that you are eager to get this product out on the market, but it seems like PMDG is now rushing their production just to get something out. I'm sure that there will be individuals here that will disagree with me, but obviously I'm not the only potential customer that is interested in this feature (based on this current thread).I'm not here to tell you how to do your job, but I know that you would not have to "redo" the entire panel in order to add some panel effects. With respect,Norbert
May 27, 200323 yr Author Commercial Member Norbert-I've been flying professionally for some time now.... I've used the cockpit flood lights possibly 5 times.Three times on the same day when I had a deferred throttle console backlighting module, and twice at night during thunderstorms in order to prevent night blindness...I recognize that for someone such as yourself it is probably quite easy to sit back and pose uninformed statements- but as a developer, we are forced to work within the constrains of some software and hardware limitations in order to provide the most accurate airliner simulation possible. We must balance such things as whether or not adding the extra file size, alpha layering and Z buffering will cause us to downgrade the resolution of the displays in order to maintain frame rates, or whether we'll be able to include standby gauges that actually work, or whether we might lose the fidelity of certain cockpit switch animations because of memory concerns and frame rate protections...So the floodlight was discarded because it isn't often used. If that bothers you then PLEASE don't purchase this product. I'd hate to have to explain why we didn't include cabin announcements.... Robert S. May 27, 200323 yr When PMDG makes statements such as "Not in this release, however, we will be implementing this into the 800/900", of course I will think twice about buying a product that isn't quite complete. I would rather wait for the next release/version and I would assume that you would do the same when buying a product.I am well aware of what it takes to develop such a product and I commend you for your efforts, but I don't go throwing out such "uninformed" statements (about panel lighting)if I knew it were difficult or not logical. Regards,Norbert
May 27, 200323 yr Commercial Member Norbert-your point has come across loud and clear.Let me make a point here as well:You don't have to purchase anything. Everyone's free to judge for themselves. Whenever you post such negative comments, however, you're needlessly providing misinformation about something that you have not had the priviledge of seeing yet. When it comes out, see what the package is all about, and then judge.I certainly don't go into Wendy's or Burger King every day telling them "You don't have Norwegian as WELL as mid-Atlantic Salmon in your upcoming advertised seafood salad, so I won't buy it, WHEN it comes out!", ESPECIALLY since they had the decency of telling me it won't have it, before they sold it to me.The very fact that, as a guest on our forum (that AVSim graciously provides for us), you're free to talk your mind, should remind you of the common courtesy to wait until you see what's out, and decide for yourself. May 28, 200323 yr I realize that you take pride in your work, as do I with my projects, therefore, I understand why PMDG is being defensive in this discussion. BUT, don
