I have a question about the license

Featured Replies

Hello, I have been thinking about this for most of this evening, I must admit, I don't liek the system that much. I have bought the CS727; a wonderful aircraft, and I will buyt the PMDG 737NG. Have you considered a system similar to the system used by Flight1 of a setup program that takes your payment details, communicates with the server, downloads an encoded file allowing the setup to continue. Now if PMDG were to use a similar system whereby the user after paying for the product, downloaded the installer. They would fill out details that are specific to them, Postcode, Phone Number, Address, mothers maiden name etc, the cross-check that with a file on the server that is specific to them. If those detail on the server and what the user has inputed match then the setup can continue.Regards,

I am disappointed to hear of this as well. I don't like the idea of software I pay for and then don't really own. What if I need to reinstall it in a year or two and PMDG is not still in business, or the server is down, or whatever. I'm at the mercy of PMDG allowing me to reinstall.Lee Hetherington (KBED)http://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

Well thank you for answering my question on the subject. I know you want to protect your work but no matter what someone will crack it. I really disagree with buying something and have someone tell me what I can and can not do with it. So with that I am not going to buy your airplane, I know I have really been looking forward to it but this is really to much on the security issue. I sell software that cost 3500.00 or sometimes more and when they have that disk they can change harddrives or computers as many times as they like, This is a 35.00 or so add on for a game and I can't even put on both of my computers. I really hope you guys and the rest of the payware groups take look at this and see what kind of solution you can come up with. Thanks,Jason Dellarusso

Technically, any software you buy you only get a licesnse to use it...

I for one do not care what I have to do to install the software. The enjoyment I will receive far outweighs any minor inconvience.Just my opinion...

>Technically, any software you buy you only get a licesnse to>use it...>>Yes but I can give you an example of 1 license installed on two computers. Here in Turkey if you buy a MS Office you are allowed to install it to both of your home and business (or notebook) computers.Because as long as you have it's license you can uninstall it from one for install it to another and vice versa. You have it's license and you can use it wherever you want as long as you don't make multiple installations. I think PMDG must find another way to protect their work from thefts..May be 2 keys for license, like Captainsim did, this may reduce possible number of buyers but we have rights to use it don't we? Software developing world is going to rent their work instead selling of it's license...

I echo most of what's been said here. I am not a big fan of this new registration system, and find it more than a minor inconvience to have to re-register the software whenever you upgrade/reformat/have a HDD crash, etc.Oh well.Ryan-Flightpro08 :-cool VATSIM Pilot/ControllerZLA ARTCC Senior Controller (C-3)Help Fight Cancer! www.ud.comhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg-----------------------------My "Home Made" System Specs:Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz ProcessorTurbo Gamer ATX Mid-Tower with 420W Power SupplyEPoX 4G4A Motherboard with Intel 845G ChipsetVisiontek XTASY GeForce4 128MB Ti4600 (Det 42.86 Drivers)1GB PC2100 DDR RAM40GB Matrox 7200RPM Hard DriveWindows XP Home Edition SP1*No CPU or GPU Overclocking*-----------------------------Click Here to Download my American Eagle POSKY CRJ-200!

Hi everyoneUnfortunately this discussion brings some clouds to the light sky of PMDG

If minor inconveniences for you include basically having to take a DNA test to demonstrate you're the one who bought the product, then by all means I agree. :-lolCheers,http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/12447.jpgMember of the [a href=http://ffg.avsim.net" target="_blank]Freeware Flight Group [/a]

Hi Ryan,I have to agree, rather than a 'minor inconvenience', I find it a major annoyance. Realistically, it is not a question of if or when the activation technology will be hacked, but rather how quickly. And I wonder, if in some instances it doesn't have the opposite of the desired effect. Imagine a potential customer, who would buy the product, if it wasn't for the activation technology. So, before buying, he or she looks for an available crack. He finds it, and it comes with the added 'bonus' of getting the software for free. Would he still pay for a copy?Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Would he>still pay for a copy? You are right - such a technology makes an idiot out of an honest customer: he pays the full price for the product AND has to endure all the drawbacks of the activation technology. On the other hand the users of a crack pay NOTHING AND can enjoy the software without any activation technology-restrictions :-((( !!!Very clever system!!!Walter

Well I guess it all depends on your definition of "minor inconvience." :-)Also, I'm not sure how many customers are out there that would say "well I really WANT to pay for this, but since there is activation I'll go get the crack instead." Methinks they don't want to pay in the first place...IMHO.http://saltydogfly2.avsim.net/images/avsim_sig.jpg

I guess i'll chime in and give my 2 cent's on this one. I think at some point these verification systems that everybody is coming out with for the products are finally going to break down one day and leave everybody out in the cold. What I mean is that say this system or others don't work and still get stolen or put on the net then there will be some other type of system that might restrict the consumer even more then it already does. This is going to make the consumer even more upset then it already is now and maybe make sales go down more then if they would have never went so far in the first place, Just something to think about? Me and my brother jason love this hobby we both have a couple of computers at our house's that we play flight simulator on. It's a great substitute for when i'am not flying in the real world. I build computers like the one i'am on now so I change my stuff often, so I believe this new verification system is just going to leave me out on this one like my brother it's to much of a hassle for a product that I pay 35.00 dollars for. I'am not trying to bash you guy's I understand the hard work but theres gotta be a better way then this.Joe Dellarusso
