I have a question about the license

Featured Replies

I have read the top post and just have a quick question. I read that if you have 2 computers you will have to get 2 license if you want them to run. This concerns me because I really have been following your product and waiting for it to come out but if it will require 2 license to run on my computers I don't know if I am going to buy it. I have most of the payware packages out there and I really believe in supporting good companys but I have never had purchase a software package in the store or something over internet twice for my computers. I hope there is something you are doing about it.Thanks,Jason Dellarusso

Jason-If you read the license agreements that come with software- you are legally only allowed a single installation....Unfortunately we have had to take this approach because of the preponderance of theft. We've spent tens of thousands of hours on this project, so theft prevention is very important to us!It's unfortunate that this is the reality of the market now.

Are we going to be able to d/l the B737 on an other location and then install it to the computer?I am asking because at home I have a dial up connection and can't download large packages. On the other hand on the Job I have connection with a 6Mbps line so it's much much easier :-)Chris Makris

Chris-Yes - you will be able to.you can download from anywhere you like, but you'll get one license key from us for the machine you install it on.Cheers,

Ah thats great news! Any kind of ideas of the inital file size? 50MB?

Hi Lefteris,my favourite method of cleaning out the registry and fixing other Windows errors is to reformat my Windows partition. This happens quite frequently. Will I be required to reinstall and 'reactivate' the 737 every time?Cheers,Gosta. http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Gosta-Yes, you will.Apropos of that, reformatting your Windows partition is not a good way of cleaning out errors... The best way is: Once you're satisfied that you have a good installation of everything, with no problems or errors, make a backup of your Windows partition (using Norton Ghost or any other of your favorite disk backup software), which you can use to restore the conditions you had before.Also- Windows XP has System Restore Points, which are an excellent facility as well.Cheers,

Hi Lefteris, thanks for the info. I use reformatting mainly as a tool to clean out the registry and rogue files/programs which seem to accumulate from time to time. The partition only contains Windows and Norton, so reinstalling takes less time than cleaning out the files by hand :). I've got all my settings backed up the way I like them, and all the hardware drivers are kept in one backup folder. Yes, system restore is excellent, especially for getting rid of a hardware driver you don't like.BTW, will there be a CD version as well? Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Regarding this I have a question:I'm about to order a new CPU and motherboard. If I buy the 737NG package and install it before I change these hardware components will this cause me problems? Thanks in advance.Regards,Bjorn

Gosta-As I said, if you format your OS hard drive, the security protection scheme will detect that, and invalidate your existing license. As such, I wholeheartedly recommend the method I suggested, with creating backup copies of the entire partition, once you've come up with one you like.

By the way I don't like the way the software developers going..Let's think. CS727 already have a copy protection like Lefteris's said, SSWA310 and PMDG737 will have it and DF's Lou just mentioned they will have a copy protection like that. I'll not suprised if PSS decide to have it too.I for one formatting my drives for fresh Windows/FS installation, sometimes with partition changes. Also upgrading my HDD's regularly.

I have to agree. I have the PMDG 757 for Fly! and loved it. I've been following the MSFS 737 development with much excitement, but I have to say that this "protection" makes me a little less excited. Windows XP has this type of protection and how long was it before that was cracked? The people who are inconvinenced by it's protection aren't the thieves but people like me who paid hundreds of dollars for it.I fear that the same thing will happen with this product. The copy "protection" will get cracked in a week and it will get stolen anyhows. The only people who will be bothered by it will be your loyal customers. I realize that any copy protection going into the 737 is already in it by this point, but I hope PMDG will consider these facts when developing your next aircraft.I will probably buy the 737 in spite of having to go through the trouble of checking in with you to get a new key whenever I change an AGP card or a CPU. I will buy it because, like Windows XP, it looks good enough to be worth the trouble. It is pretty depressing though that we will have to go through that trouble for the life of the product, knowing that it only stopped anyone wanting to steal it for a week or so. Just my two cents. Sorry that my first post on this forum in years is so negative. It really does look like a great plane.-Shaun

Lefteris, unfortunately I have to add to all these licensing related questions and take up your precious time.I do quite a lot of hardware updating regularly, mainly getting new hard disks and new video card, and wonder what changes will make my computer a "new computer" from a licensing point of view. Since formatting (been using ghost for years btw and recommend it to everyone) makes it a new computer of course changing hard disk will have the same effect. But how about video cards, memory sticks, sound card?Captain Sim also have the same system but if you make hardware changes and mail them and explain the situation to them, they have always been VERY forthcoming and give you a new code. Having bought all your products for Fly! and Fly!II I know that your support and good will is second to none. Will you deal with the manner the same way Captain Sim does? :)Sorry about all these question since they are a bit premature and I will buy the product regardless, but I need to know how "perfect" I need to have my computer when I obtain the licensing code! :)I guess trying to fit my computer to an add-on to a game only shows my trust in the producer, PMDG! :)Best regards,Krister,Mariehamn Finland

Hey: A little disappointed... I understand piracy is a recurring issue for developers, but this is getting to the point where the user feels like a thief if he has to reinstall his software. Your system is looking even worse than Captain Sim's, which I had major issues with. I hope this aspect is reconsidered, because even though I understand you guys want to protect your product, it's payware, so I don't want to have to go through hell if I buy a new system. As much as I understand that piracy is a problem, those of us who are not into it are really getting "shot at" for those who are.Cheers,http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/12447.jpgMember of the [a href=http://ffg.avsim.net" target="_blank]Freeware Flight Group [/a]
