Severe turbulance efects with all the weather clear?

Featured Replies

Let me explain:since I got the plane i've flown only short city hoops 250 nm max, not requiring more than fl 280/290, but today I've wanted something 1h+ so I've tried EHAMM(amsterdam) LOWW(Viena) At fl350 with real wheather; I know that this "otto" doesn't like wind's but they weren't that bad and so wasn't "otto", until about FL320 where it started climbing and descending like "there was not tomorow" passing 2G+ to -1G in one second, all the way to cruize altitude, and stayed that way with a perfect 15kt tail wind!!! It whas a sight to see! I've then tried to clear the weather, but the thing continued, I've paused the flight, went to FSUIPC menu, deactivated all there was to it and still the same thing.... the only thing that made it all stop was hand flying!! (and oh boy what a lesson about smoothness I gave to otto) when I thougt it has learned his thing, there he was playing again! What can I do to make it stop?Thank'sJos

Speechless... How do you know that " this "otto" doesn't like wind's " by the way ? "Otto" does not bother that much about wind. Actually does not care a dime. Do you think that real weather performance has never been tested before ? What have done you there Captain ? :-) Details, details. For example was wind speed constant ? TAT ? Real weather clouds ? You should know that severe turbulence in real world is light/moderate turbulence in FS !! My main concern is that the problem continued "after" you cleared the weather...Are you sure VNAV was active ? What the heck ? Again, details.Regards,E. M. A guy just posted more or less the same thing "upstairs". Has nothing to do with weather I guess. Were you running at accelerated speed by any chance (meaning 4x, 8x or 16x ?)Cheers,E. M. VaosPrecision Manuals Development Groupwww.precisionmanuals.com

UPDATE:To narrow a litle bit the source of this behaviour, I've tried a simple flight LPPR->LPPR on the most clear weather I could arrange, zero AI trafic, and absolutly no FMC, started in RW 17 Started egines tuned the ILS frequency 109.90 course 176 selected 5000ft 240 kt, activated FD and AT Toga power, 1000ft agl speed mode AP and selected a nice turn left with the hdg selector and, a vs of 2500ft/minImediatly the problem arouse!!!! it has to do with the elevator, Selected spot view and the elevator was acting crazy!!! even in leveled flight it hapened, it always maintained the selected altitude tough! and the autoland was a mess!1 I mean it was always perfect on the glideslope only erratic in the pitch atitude.tried everything I could with and without the options in FSUIPC, but one thing I can tell! it seems like it has nothing to do with the weather! This is VERY strange, since I've got the plane I didn't change nothing in the PC nor hardware nor sofware! I've also managed to do some fairly good flights with this plane prior to this, this just started happening!Thank'sJos

I had the same problem, I traced it to the load manager. For some reason it screws up the weight distribution causing all kinds of problems for me, like really long takeoffs and a flapping elevator. Try using no pax no cago, and see if that helps.Evan

Are you using Lago's Air File Pro? If so, try either turning it off completely, or turn off the 'center of graviy shift' option and see if that resolves your problem. Based on very limited testing, this worked for me.Chris

Gents-from Lago's web-site:"!!.....news flash.....news flash......news flash.....news flash.....news flash....!! This latest update also fixes the ´spiral of Death´ bug and includes super scripts for very slow unstable air. If you downloaded version 1.10, simply donwload this verision. No update available because we also wanted to block some hackers who were quick stelaing our software."Could this be your problem?

Thank's for the sujestions!Regarding the Lago product I don't have it.I'll try now the empty flight and see what happens...Jos

Thank's Evan that was it!! :DNever tought of that one since I allways use an even weight distribution. Now it's up to PMDG. Now I will try the same with some VERY nasty weather ;)By the way: Should I enable "control spike elimination" in FSUIPC?Jos

Dear Josi :It is a pleasure to help. What probably happened is you loaded the airplane exactly at the nose and it run out of trim ! We came across this behaviour from a beta tester. I just wish we could lock all cfg files from external interference ! The model is tweaked to the finest possible accuracy meaning that if for example the centre of gravity is not between 13 to 33 percent MAC the plane will not fly properly. So does the real one.A remark : if somebody reads the title of your email and the *absolute* certainty of the statement "I know this "otto" does not like winds" will get a most negative impression...Really did you ever think that you were the first person on earth to test this plane under real weather conditions ? Perhaps it is good sometimes to adopt a more flexible approach. Saves faces afterwards... Anyhow we are happy that you are happy.I would suggest that you enable "control spike elimination" in FSUIPC. It is not essential but will be beneficial for ALL your airplanes. In general please refrain from using any add-on that changes model parameters on this airplane. I dont care if the producer fixed active air file pro, or what have you. As I have written in many other threads nothing is placed in our cfg files by accident.Best Regards and many happy landings,Vangelis===================================== E. M. Well Well!It seems like the engine/wings anti-ice AND pitot heat don't work! :-eek In my extreme weather flight, at an MODERATE -13

E. M. Vaos:Sorry about mine/yours miss understanding, I've not questioned the quality/existence of the beta team and tests, I Know, well I don't "Know" but I strongly BELIVE that all of them and you made all it was possible.regarding my first post in this thread, it was intended to be as humurous as possible, regarding the problem I had, it was not and it isn't my intention to bash or ofend the people/product's at PMDG not even my friend "otto", I was not "certain" of anything, I meant "Belive" as I said earlyer, and I understand your feelings about "otto", seems like you were (the?)one of the developers of it.If You want I can edit the post, clarifying my point of view. This is in part due to english not beeing my national language (I'm Portuguese you know?) ;-)One more thing: To avoid future posts like mine, refering the the weight distribuition and inplications of it, you could post that to the FAQ.Again sorry for my bad english.RegardsJos
