Sluggish roll behaviour

Featured Replies

Hi guysAnyone else noticed the pretty sluggish roll behaviour of the A/P? Done some flying now and it seems to me that the A/C is way too fast in the roll axis. After slamming to one direction it oscillates until it settles down. I got the bank angle warning as well. Seems the controller for roll axis needs some fine tuning! :-)

Hi Mats,Could you provide further detail concerning the conditions when this behavior occurred?Thx,George

Sure GeorgeI know for certain that this occurs when LNAV is engaged. I think it showed up when I tried HDG SEL and changed the heading as well. I'll get back to that though. Have to make another test flight. Is there any additional information you would like me to provide?

HiOK. Doing a testflight as I'm writing..Transition between LNAV and HDG SEL goes smooth as long as the difference is less than 10 degrees. When the difference is greater than 10 dergrees it behaves as I mentioned earlier. If you change the heading in small and slow steps while in HDG SEL it also behaves fine. If you change in big steps i.e. 10s of degrees (right click) it slams down to a 30 degree bank and bounces between 30 and 20 degree bank. It also seems like the oscillations disappear when the a/c is 18 degrees from target heading. That's strange...

YeppChecked and cross-checked! ;-)The bank angle setting knob is not the weak link here. But thanks for the hint! :-)

The bank angle selector has no effect on LNAV, at least according to the documentation.Lee Hetherington (KBED)

Hej Mats,This is the first time this has been reported. Interesting though. What I can guarantee it that by construction the bank cntroller will never "bounce". Yet you report this and we have to check this special case. The bank warning angle is waaaaaayyyyyyyyy beyond the max allowable bank limit. Lets round up usual suspect number one : no chance of editing the aircraft.cfg with an external "load manager" other than PMDG's right ? Email more details at [email protected] and lets see.Cheers,VangelisPS. The email is ofcourse available to everyone with any problem or even a hint of a problem.=========================================== E. M. That is correct. The bank limiter has no effect in LNAV mode. Constant real pilot complaint by the way that the NG AP is a bit rough. (The problem Mats reports, however, is exceptional and may be unrelated to AP function altogether...)Also if any of you guys have mouse with a wheel you should know that it works for heading select too -- in a sense much more realistic than left clicking.Cheers,Vangelis===================================== E. Hi Vangelis et alI didn't use any other load manager than PMDG's own. I did for the first flight but saw on this forum and discovered the hard way that this was not good. :-) So renamned my original config file. The bank limit warning comes at about 33 degree bank angle. Doesn't seem that far beyond the max allowed bank angle?I'll send you a mail with this information and specs with the aircraft.cfg and the FSUIPC.iniAnything else you would like to examine? ;-)Regards

On the MCP, if you click to lower the bank angle degree knob selector, you or at least I cannot get it to select a higher degree bank angle just using the left/right mouse keys. It only works using the mouse wheel for some reason.
