My mouse ballet problem

Featured Replies

I posted a note a day or so ago about the strange behaviour of my mouse when darkness falls in the NG. The problem seems to be far more serious than I had thought. As I said previously, shortly after dusk, the cursor is constantly on and flickering between the pointer and the hourglass symbol. Of itself, this would not be too bad - I could simply confine the little beast to a secondary monitor and forget it.Unfortunately I can't because once the mouse begins its little dance it has a bad effect on all gauges/switches. They do work but in a dreadfully stuttery kind of way. Additionally, it doesn't appear to be possible to revert back to daylight. Once dark, I can try to select an earlier time of day, set it in Time and season, but the new time does not load, so I'm stuck with the gyrating mouse at dusk. This problem manifests only in full screen mode, regrettably I can't run in windowed mode because there I get the horrid periodic stutters. Initially I thought there was something quite amusing about the little rodent's antics, but no longer - it's now teeth grinding. At this point I need help. This is restricted entirely to the NG, it happens with no other plane and I would appreciate a view from the team. Bud

Bud,sorry you're having problems. What would be helpful is to list what OS, Video Card, Driver version, FS version and what version of the patch you are running. Off hand it would seem to be either a OS or Vid driver problem. Haven't heard or your particular problem with our NG before but I'm not ruling anything out.

Thanks PeteMats, who also reported a problem, was kind enough to direct you to the info I gave previously. In full, it is XP Home, Gainward Ti4600/Dr 52.16 running 2 monitors and a matched Gainward PCI card with same driver running one monitor, FS9, SU1. I also have 1 meg of RAM. I can't see that this is an OS or Vid card driver problem. Presumably, if it was, I would get the same issue with all my other planes, unless, of course, you have some non-standard way of building the views in the NG?Many thanks for looking at this.Bud

Bud,Your best best - for the time being - is to roll back to earlier video drivers. I have tried out the 52.16 drivers myself (I have a GeForce 3 Ti 500), but kept getting lockups in various games. There are some issues with 52.16 - wait for newer ones.- Bill Ruppel

BillThanks for that info. I have considered rolling back to the forties but the thing is, I like the 52s overall. They give me quite a reasonable f/r increase; they solved another problem I was having and they give me no issues with any plane other than the NG.As you say, there may well be issues with 52.16, but in this particular instance, I don't believe the problem rests with the driver. As I said before, if this was the case, then I would expect the prob to be replicated on other planes. I'm interested in what Pete has to say about this.Bud

Bud,not ignoring you, just been very busy. Can you try contacting the staff through the support email address? I know you've been through that route already but SU2 has been hogging everyones time and I think it'd been worth a try going to them again.

Pete Hello,Thanks for that. I know you're busy and I appreciate the interest. I'll drop a line - well several actually - to support.Bud

Bud, did you by any chance docked and undocked a secondary window...?I am asking this because I had a similar problem and whatever the driver I used, it always came back.I undocked a secondary window, slew it to my second monitor and, when I thought I didn't need it anymore, I just docked it while it was sitting on the second monitor. And then all hell broke loose. For one obscure reason, that window docked alright but didn't close as it should. No, it stayed open and my mouse went beserk trying to find that window which stayed invisible until I closed Fs9 and restarted it...just a thought here...Luc 'Glaudrung' BrusselmansBelgium

Luc - nice idea but I'm not sure this is the prob in my case. It is really difficult to get to grips with. My first thought was that it could be a system problem of some sort. For example I found, by accident, that when you change vid. drivers, a number of new entries are placed in FS9.cfg relating to Display. By some editing, it seems to be possible to reduce the mouse gyrations a bit. That can't be the complete answer, however, as the problem exisits only with the 737NG.It's driving me nuts !!Bud
