Idle descent in 800-900 series...

Featured Replies

If you use LVL CHG when descending, the throttles should idle, and the autopilot will adjust the vertical speed to maintain whatever descent speed is selected. This should be the case when you reach the Top Of Descent point.

So I guess that it wont work with the 800-900 series unless in lvl chg mode...Never tried descending in lvl chg but I'll give it a try to see how it feels. Thanks,David

Boy this is highly subjective David! Just what ENG values are you reading to determine if the 700-600 uses idle for DEScents? I would caution folks to carfully study this subject before making assumptions about how the real NG descents. Variable conditions etc is one thought that comes to mind ;-) [h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Hi David,Would you care to elaborate a little on what exactly is not working? As far as I know the different descent types are working as in real life except the fact that our throttle levers are not servo coupled (yet ;-)) and thus the ARM A/T mode is not working as it does in the real life.Cheers,

I'm not making assumptions or anything like that, I just noticed that the 737 ng doesn't descent with engs at idle making corrections to the descent profile when needed.I don't know how the real thing behaves in real life but I do remember reading a post that said, if I'm not wrong ( and I could be by all means) that when path is selected in the fmc descent page as being the descent mode the aircraft should picth down with throttles at idle making corrections to the path when needed but keeping throttles at idle all the way down.If that is wrong please let me know, I take the time to write to you 'cause I'm interested in learning more about this aircraft and I'm the last person to bash this product simply because I love it and think it is the best add-on for MFS so far so there is nothing to bash. Now what do you mean with throttle levers not being coupled? How does the ARM A/T mode work in real life? Thanks for your time and patience,David

Thanks Mats, I didn't know that idle meant different values of N1 according to current altitude. It is now a lot more clear than before and forgive me if I wasn't that clear in my first post.It would really be nice to have that feature you mention simulated in the 737 NG...Anyway best wishes and take care,David
