May 2, 200422 yr Nope not from what I read and heard from 737 pilots. Certainly the A/T cannot react if there are strong winds at low altitudes like a pilot could. I do not know how different these two are in this regard but doubt there is much difference. Any pilots of the 737 want to comment? [h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. May 2, 200422 yr FINALLY SPOILERS (with SPD).OK everyone, I think I found our little *bug*.The question why 737-600 and -700 do deploy spoilers as usual and 800/900 do not has been answered for me (for now). Although I don't find any solution to this, and cannot understand why is this happening since both aircraft use the same gauge!I was flying first -700 and then -800, both Qantas liveries, -700 was non-winglet version and -800 was a winglet version. I was testing both aircraft with the same settings, just different weights. When approaching, I did everything per manual, and set my flaps to 40 and selected appropriate speed, armed the speedbrake. AND, I opened the throttle window, to observe the throttle while landing. One thing that this support got wrong is, it's not only the joystick throttle has to be idle but aircraft throttle has to be in idle position as well (on the screen)! And a big difference between 700 and 800 is that, upon flare, at 50ft AGL, the 700 will move the throttles to idle and 800 will not. WHY??? If the throttle position on the screen is in idle position, the spoilers will deploy, that is sure for both aircraft. So basically, what I did was at 50ft, I pressed F1, that moved the throttle to idle and spoilers deployed. I repeated twice the same action with both aircraft and in both situations, everything was fine.Anyway, I think now that this has been cornered, it can also be "fixed", don't you think PMDG?
May 2, 200422 yr OK. so now NO PROBS.The correct way to arm these is to use the 2D throttle quadrant since. This being done the indicator DOES illuminate. Also, even with a N! of 21% at minimum throttle and provided the throttle is fully retarded before touchdown the spoilers will automatically deply on a full autoland but as everyone will tell you a FULL autoland is a rare thing - but it is nice to know it works.I guess the MS logic of the spoilers needs to be completely redone. Pity they cannot be armed in the 3D version as it is not fully flyable in this mode for this reason. A small point and considering the amount of work already done by PMDG I'm not knocking it. In fact, with the sort of backup you get and the wonderfull quality of the aircraft I can now understand the reasons for the difficult registering of this product. I guess every flight simmer on the planet would like these birds.Kind regardsNigel Thomas-Smithhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg
June 17, 200421 yr Just a note to complement what was said above. First, I want to state that I never had this occur with the 700 series. Second, this is not the interim patch, it's the original. Perhaps here lies a problem. On the 900, autospoilers do not deploy no matter what I do. Upon the tips above, I found that 1) my throttle is propery calibrated as reported by FSUIPC, but note that I do use the FSUIPC "reverser" feature, so that idle is NOT the min reported by the raw inputs. However, 0 is being returned to FS (checked through the FSUIPC snoop code to verify throttle idle is indeed 0) - and I have marked this position on my throttle. There is also a small dead band to ensure that minor movements still return 0 for idle.2) hit F1 before landing, at around 500ft agl.3) checked spoilers armed, and annunciator light is on (I always use the mouse to arm). I have used the spoilers to slow down during descent. Perhaps this is relevant. So, right now I simply hit "/" when I touch down to ensure the spoilers are deployed, since the new 800/900 will deploy on "/" (I like that feature).Hope this can help troubleshoot the problem.
June 18, 200421 yr Is the replay function of FS9 not a true rendition of the flight? When I replay the final approach and landing, the spoilers always deploy normally and stay deployed until the throttle is increased to taxi.It doesn't seem to matter whether the A/T is armed or not for landing. I do insure the thottle on the joystick is closed before touchdown. And it doesn't seem to matter that the spoilers are armed either.
