737 Stutters - New Theory!

Featured Replies

Hey guysOk, I know some other people have had these problems too, so i'll post my findings. These stutters are only there in the VC models. The stutters do not effect frame rate, I am often still in up 30FPSThe stuters appear to have a regular beat, ie half seconds(not exact)A long time ago, I remember in the -600 and -700 pmDG were trying to fix the problem on VC, which apparent in a lot of users. I seem to remember pmDG said that this was some sort of memory drain, and I seem to remember they said it would be fixed in the -800??? Anyway, I have realised that the exact same happens in the -800 and -900. I know this because in the 2d panel it's fine. As soon as I go into VC, the stutters are created. The stutters continue into the external views. But, when I go back into the 2d cockpit the stutters are no longer noticable. The major part is though If I switch to desktop, click on the desktop, then switch back to FS I no longer have any stutters in the external views and the already stutterless 2d views. However, whenever I use the VC It gives me stutters. My System specs are:AthlonXP 1.91gb DDR PC2700 RamRadeon 9600XT 128DDRNforce2 chipped motherboard with duel channel ram???<--something like that!)

Hi!I experience these stutters in the "non VC" models as well, especially when using external views. Watching landings from the wing view is a really jerky experience - "2 steps forward, one step backwards" is a good description of the visual experience. It seems like most people with these problems have an ATI Radeon card - don't know if this is a clue...I have tried all imaginable tweaks and settings, including different display drivers, BIOS settings, hardware configurations etc. I even formatted the harddisk and tested with a "clean" FS configuration with only PMDG 800/900 installed, but the stutters were still there.

I'm using only 2D Panel model and FPS is about 30, peaks 60. Default MS Planes giving steady 80-90 FPS. Is there anyone getting steady frame rates with PMDG 737? Like between 40-50?I use only 2X AA on video card settings. My PC Specs as follows: P4-2.8/Gigabyte i865PE Chipset board/2x512MB 400Mhz DDRAM/HIS ATI 9600XT 128MB and WinXP Pro.

I also get a flash of my panel it strobes about every 1-2 seconds when the weather is changing. The outside stays the same it is only related to my panel. This is in a non VC model. I discovered last night that when I open up my serve info gauge while this is happening that the SI gauge flashes instead of the panel. I have render to texture and panel to texture all enabled but I still get it. I just don't understand. I am still getting locked 28 FPS.

I have render to texture and panel to texture all enabledI believe that you're meant to turn Render to Texture off ?John http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewer

You have to have render to texture on to be able to use DXT3 clouds. That is why I have it checked. Ill play around with 32 bit clouds and see if that works.

Hey, can any PMDG members reply please? I know it sounds a bit pathetic, but the VC was one of the main reasons I bought these 2 planes, and I seem to remember seeing that this was going to be fixed in the -800/900 package. I'd really really like to be able to fly with the VC:(

Interesting thread I was about to post something similar only that this happens in two other payware planes I have. It's not so much as a stutter more like a "jerking". It looks to me like it's updating textures or something, but I can't be sure. I have high FPS in the range of 30-50 and it's always in the VC. The "jerking" is hardly noticable only if I'm in a hard turn. Is it because of the rendering engine bult into fs9 that it can't cope with large shifts in textures from within the VC because I don't have this in the 2D panel? Like you I have tried all tweaks and I have gotten it down to a minimum but there is still that tiny "jerk" when in a turn. One thing that alleviated this a lot was uninstalling the Airport Enviroment Upgrade...I noticed that whenever I turned towards an airport right before I got it into view from the VC it work make a sudden big jump like it was refreshing the textures, and after uninstalling this I lost it.-Mikkel

No i'm not a "real" pilot, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

A steady 1-2 Hz stutter like what you describe sounds a lot like either an antivirus program or the Windows file indexing service at work.Merely disabling Norton antivirus was not sufficient to stop some similar issues for me...I have to kill several lingering processes related to NAV (rtvscan.exe and vptray.exe in particular) with EndItAll 2 or Windows task manager before running FS, especially with complex processor-hungry panels and models. One thing I'd try is running Windows task manager with the processes tab selected...see if something is showing CPU usage in synch with the stutters, jerks, pauses, strobes or whatever you call 'em.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC

I have trimmed my system as good as I could. I have 14 processes running excluding fs9. I don't have an antivirus running disconnected the inet and don't have indexing turned on. :(...but of course I'll keep tweaking to find the culprit, or maybe fs9 is just not good enough yet. :)-Mikkel
