August 31, 200421 yr Cannot find the GPS in PMDG 737 NG. Is that because there is none because of the other complex navigation stuff or am I missing somewhere to click on? Also Sky Decks has a 737 NG panel which has a gps inside the navigation box. Will this work with the 737 NG. The name is the same (737 NG) but it is a different company.
August 31, 200421 yr Commercial Member Dear Nameless (you have to sign with your name)No the MS-GPS is not available in the 737NG. This is simply because it is not realistic to have a Garmin-Device in that cockpit. And yes it is not needed at all since you have a Flight Management System to navigate with. There is a possibility to add the MS-GPS as far as I know, but as I said that would be totally unrealistic...Regards,Markus Markus Burkhard
August 31, 200421 yr Thanks. Well now I know. The Panel is made by Skydeck. It integrates a GPS into the navigation box so the you see terrain outlines along with VOR etc. I would ask PMDG directly if it works but IU am new toi the forum and haven't yet figured out how to communicate exactly with who I want to reach.David Shluker
August 31, 200421 yr I have installed a button on the panel to bring up the default GPS unit. I did this so that it act like having a full set of Jepp plates on board. I can freqs, approaches, nearest ap id's, ect...works well for me CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro | GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K
September 1, 200421 yr David, The NG displays will show you VOR's, airports, waypoints, etc. Look in the documentation about the EFIS panel. Also, as mentioned the NG has very sophisticated navigational systems when compared to a Garmin GPS. So you don't need an extra GPS if you learn how to use the NG's built in navigational systems. Some of the NG's autopilot functions require the use of these systems (ex: VNAV & LNAV)Take a look at one of the many tutorials available. They are a good starting point for learning the systems. September 1, 200421 yr Hi there,It is completely out of my imagination why an equipment like a Garmin GPS would be needed on this sophisticated simulation of the NG?!? Going by common sense it appears to me that if it would be of any use, the real thing would certainly have it. Instead it has INS and navigational data.Someone pull the throttle back on me but I somehow have the feeling that if a person asks for an MS GPS in PMDG 737 NG than he was not quite sure what he was purchasing (if even so..)Cheers Balint Nagy
September 1, 200421 yr Hi,Sounds like your determined to use a seperate GPS unit but for what it's worth the FMC/CDU, IRS's and GPS, yes I said GPS in the 737NG will accomplish the same thing and much more if you only learn how to use them. That's is only going to happen if you take some time to read the PMDG 737NG manuals and try some of the free tutorials that are offered. Yes, the 737NG has GPS, a left and a right. CDU POS REF page 2/3 shows the left and right GPS latitude and longitude position. The two GPS recievers are independent and provide accurate airplane geographical position to the FMC.GPS operation in the 737NG is AUTOMATIC.How does it work in a nutshell? FMC logic selects the position from one of the GPS sensor units as the primary update to the FMC position. Radio updating can also occur. If all GPS data becomes unavailable, the FMC position will be determined by radio or inertial (IRS) updating.A green GPS light on the aft overhead panel of a real NG (no aft overhead panel on the PMDG 737) indicates when it's working. An amber light indicates when it is not.Floyd John Floyd
September 2, 200421 yr I was well aware of what I was getting...I use it mainly to list the frequencies so I can monitor near-airport operations. The airport map is also helpful. Again, just think of it as an electronic Jepp book. CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro | GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K
