November 3, 200421 yr Hello fellow Avsim PC pilots :)I just bought the PMDG NG 737 add-on and I must say I find it very impressive! So well done to the PMDG team, thanx for a great product!I have a question for you all and I need some help!Could someone please tell me how to tweak the .cfg file to import the FS9 Garmin GPS (the one thats used in the FS9 default 737)? Aslo is it possible to make the PMDG 737 follow the GPS route?Programming the FMS is fun but sometimes I just wannna get in the plane, pick a route and fly - all in a minute!Thanks lots :)
November 3, 200421 yr >Is there anyway you can fly GPS-only routes? Programming the>FMS is fun but sometimes you just wannna get in the plane,>pick a route and fly - all in a minute!You have to pick a different airplane if you want to do this. Some addon shoot for ultimate realism. No GPS in real 737NG cockpit - no GPS in PMDG's 737NG either. ;-)Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2 Michael J.
November 3, 200421 yr <<<< Some addon shoot for ultimate realism. No GPS in real 737NG cockpit - no GPS in PMDG's 737NG either. ;-) >>>>Yup, thats why I spent money buying the thing :)Its fun learning the FMS but when you are in that get-up-and-go mood, the GPS will come in real handy!BTW if little general aviation piston planes have massive flat-panel GPS displays how comes an airliner like the NG737 doesnt? I know the FMC is extremely capable but Im just curious why it doesnt have a GPS display :) http://www.thewarfields.com/img/CirrusPanel.jpg

I know the FMC is extremely capable but Im just>curious why it doesnt have a GPS display :) You got it WRONG. Cirrus (the picture above) is equippped with a "FMS" - general aviation equivalent to FMS - GNS530. This is not a SIMPLE GPS. So yes, one might say both 737NG and the Cirrus have FMS. If you ask how come the screen is larger - that's just number of square inches - both display very similar information.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2 Michael J.
November 3, 200421 yr Oh..I thought they were simple GPS displays. I thought they could be hooked up to a GPS antenna!Thanks for clarifying Michal :)
November 3, 200421 yr >I thought they>could be hooked up to a GPS antenna!GNS530 does hook up to a GPS antenna. FMS also gets its positional from antennas. There are antennas and more antennas everywhere ;-) Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2 Michael J.
November 3, 200421 yr <<<< There are antennas and more antennas everywhere ;-) >>>>Hee hee, yes I see all those antennas sticking out all over the place!Im only just starting to realise how capable those FMCs are in planes like the NG737. Very cool! :)
November 3, 200421 yr With practise, a few Co-Routes saved into the FMS will enable quick flights at the drop of a few clicks and easier than any gps
November 3, 200421 yr Miss Nameless!Please take a minute to read the forum rules and sign your posts with your name.Ok. With the formal issues out of the way. Welcome to the NG family. ;-)Beleive me when I say we have converted more people than you to use the FMS (Flight Management System) instead of the default GPS. In fact the FMS uses 1 GPS unit, 2 IR (Inertial Reference) units and 2 VOR/DME scanning receivers with the capability to automatically tune in to 4 radio stations each to accurately calculate a positional solution. All the information given from these positioning systems are blended into one best position and displayed on the ND (Navigational Display).Cheers, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
November 3, 200421 yr Oops sorry 'bout that :)Inserted my name into signature now hee hee.And yes Im sure once I master the FMS I will be a convert.What I *do* really miss is the moving map display on the default GPS which I found very handy!Thanks :)
November 3, 200421 yr I Use the GPS also with the PMDG 737.You must modify the panel.cfg file (save the original first) like this (3 lines and one window definition):[Window Titles]Window00=Dummy Main ViewWindow01=Main PanelWindow02=Zoomed PanelWindow03=Approach PanelWindow04=Landing PanelWindow05=CDUWindow06=OverheadWindow07=ThrottlesWindow08=RadioStackWindow09=GPS 80gauge07=PMDG_737NG_Main!FlapsDial,1114,549,71,74gauge08=PMDG_737NG_Main!FlapsLights,1106,625,88,19gauge09=PMDG_737NG_Main!FlapsReliefLight,1126,526,39,16gauge10=PMDG_737NG_Main!MCP,550,383,730,130,MAINgauge11=PMDG_737NG_Main!N1_Set,881,544,35,31gauge12=PMDG_737NG_Main!SpdRef,971,545,35,31gauge13=PMDG_737NG_Main!FuelFlow,899,597,65,60gauge14=PMDG_737NG_Main!AutoBrakes,1015,551,99,74gauge15=PMDG_737NG_Main!DSP, 268,558,170,86gauge16=PMDG_737NG_Main!TestPanel,478,548,128,98gauge17=PMDG_737NG_Main!MasterCaution, 140,431,216,66gauge18=PMDG_737NG_Main!FireWarning, 89,431,50,66gauge19=PMDG_737NG_Main!SbyADI, 683,563,166,122gauge20=PMDG_737NG_Main!SbyAltimeter, 683,685,166,122gauge21=PMDG_737NG_Main!SbyRMI, 683,807,166,153gauge22=PMDG_737NG_Main!Whiskey, 1032,16,48,31gauge23=PMDG_737NG_Main!PanelSwitcher, 44,612,210,27gauge24=SimIcons!GPS Icon, 44,583,27,27 80,ZOOMgauge08=PMDG_737NG_Main!MasterCaution, 140,431,216,66gauge09=PMDG_737NG_Main!FireWarning, 89,431,50,66gauge10=PMDG_737NG_Main!Whiskey, 1032,16,48,31gauge11=PMDG_737NG_Main!PanelSwitcher, 138,921,210,27gauge12=PMDG_737NG_Main!FlapsDial, 1203,552,71,74,ZOOMgauge13=PMDG_737NG_Main!FlapsLights, 1197,630,88,19,ZOOMgauge14=PMDG_737NG_Main!FlapsReliefLight, 1215,531,39,16gauge15=SimIcons!GPS Icon, 100,921,27,27 <===============add........................ It follows the FMC-route.But the GPS is handy for general orientation.Good luckGuy
November 3, 200421 yr Guy - you RULE :)That is *exactly* what I was lookin' for! Will follow your instructions and let you know how I got along!Thanks again http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/kao/otn/bloblaugh.gif
November 8, 200421 yr Guy:Got the GPS running in the PMDG plane..thank you for your help :)Im trying to fiddle with the cfg file some more to prevent the FMC & GPS popping up at the same time and then I noticed this entry:[Window05] // PMDG_CDU_PANELfile=737NGFMC.bmp file_1024=737NGFMC.bmp:)
November 8, 200421 yr Nevin,It's the same in my panel.cfg file.I had seen that already. They have given the same panel-name to the FMC as the default GPS. The problem comes from there,it's sure.I tried to give another name, but that did not work ( i don't remember well the results, it's some time ago, I think nothing worked any more).The name must be hard-coded somewhere.I am so used now to having both when I click the Gps-icon, that it doen't bother me anymore. If i want the FMC alone I do Shift-6.I
