March 20, 200620 yr Helo Pilots!I know that everybody is testing the new 747-400F:), but if somebody have some time during or between the flights please help me!I like the longhaul flights and i like if a flight is as real as posible.Flying from america i'm using flightaware.com to get real plans. My big problem is i dont kmow the winds during the route.I did some flights from asia to europe and i had very strong headwind for 4-5 hours wich i didnt calculate to my fuel burn. So, if anybody know programs(freeware) or sites for wind planning please write me!thanksGyula(cant reply until tomorrow)http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpg
March 20, 200620 yr If nothing else use simple rule of thumb - if flying west assume some average headwind - say 50 kts, if flying east assume a tail wind of the same magnitude. Using this formula you will be ok 95% of time. Definitely don't assume '0' wind in case you don't know the true number since this will always get you into trouble.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg Michael J.
March 21, 200620 yr Upper winds are available from the aviation weather site: aviationweater.gov; on the left menu bar down below Related Information select Flight Folder. You'll get a table of Wind and Temperature data verses geographic area. For example, selecting "H" will link to a table of wind charts for Europe/North America North Polar Stereographic Centered on 45W. These charts have the data you are looking for by flight level and forecast period. The actual winds will vary from forecast, and the simulation depends on how information is fed to it. Dan Downs KCRP
