August 11, 200619 yr Hey fellow PMDG fans !What a problem. I just took delivery of a new Sony 23" widescreen LCD.Running res at 1920 x 1200.But is anyone in similar situation getting the N1 indicators drooping into the N2 area and trouble seeing 5 digit altitudes on the "tape" area??Must be the "stretch" factor. Otherwise all looks VERY good and on approach the view is Kick BUTT!!!Any fixes?? Does PMDG have a widescreen panel version??ThanksBrianNo specs as my systems bites...except for the monitor.
August 11, 200619 yr Sorry bud, 2d panels aren't compatible with widescreen. Try using the zoomed mode for the panel, that might make it look at least a little less stretched. Otherwise, gonna have to get used to it or go VC only.
August 11, 200619 yr Did you set the resolution in FS to 1920X1200 also. I have a 24 in. dell 1920X1200 and all the panels look great. There should not be any stretch factor.Chuck
August 12, 200619 yr Place your cursor to the right edge of the panel and lift click/Hold and resize it.You would be left with a black spot to the right. No problem.. display some other instrument and move it and place it there. Now save the flight. Next time. Everything would be in place. There is no problem with the WidescreenManny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
August 12, 200619 yr Hi all, I've found that setting FS to a widescreen resolution doesn't help - the full-screen 2D cockpit is stretched, round guages are egg-shaped.So I Alt+Enter to come out of full-screen mode and use the space now available to display undocked FS windows such as the FMC or additional views.Nice idea, Manny, to resize while in full-screen mode - never tried that before. I tried it and found you can't undock other FS windows to display them in the black area, right? Or is there a way to do this?Geoff Geoffrey Kent
August 14, 200619 yr Let's face it: FS2004 was not designed for widescreens. The fact is FS2004 is designed for 4:3 aspect ratio displays, eg 1024x768 or 1280x960. Although it will work on other display types there will be some limitations. Other types include widescreen (16:9 aspect) and most 17" and 19" LCD (5:4 aspect, ie 1280x1024).Limitations are:Scenery display:----------------Proportions are correct on any type of screen. However FS2004 will always maintain the width of the image and adjust the height to fit the aspect ratio of the display. This means that widescreens show less than normal screen (top and bottom are cut) and 5:4 screens display a little bit more.2D panels cockpit:------------------All panels are for 4:3 aspect ratio. On any other screen type 2D panels will appear streched either horizontally (widescreen 16:10) or vertically (5:4). This is especially visible with round gauges and more prononced on widescreen.VC cockpit:-----------Same as for the scenery. Proportion are correct but bottom of the picture is removed (widescreen) or a bit more of the bottom is visible (5:4 screen eg 19" LCD).Workaround:Wait for FSX? Maybe this issue will be fixed with FSX?In the mean time, to maintain correct proportion and for maximum view size the only solution is to use a 4:3 resolution (1024x768, 1280x960, 1600x1400) and force the screen to be at 4:3 displaying blank band on left/right side (widescreen) or top/bottom (5:4 screen). This is usually done via a setting on the graphic card driver.Christophe.
August 14, 200619 yr "the only solution is to use a 4:3 resolution (1024x768, 1280x960, 1600x1400)"Quick correction, 1600x1200 is the correct 4:3 ratio screen size, 1600x1400 would be 4:3.5. CheersSimon.
