[03MAR15] PMDG's First Product for XPlane...
Thank you for coming to X-Plane. I am absolutely intimidated by this plane. How on Earth should I manage to learn to fly this beast solo in my spare time? OMG, hehe. Maybe that is why I am not too much of a fan of the oldies, unless they come retrofitted with an FMC. Personally, I would love to see the 737NG in X-Plane. There is always hope

X-Plane and RAM
Hullo, I bought X-Plane 10 not long ago and I am really enjoying it. I also have FSX but I have not used it since I acquired X-Plane; I have not quit on it though. However, FSX is a 32-bit application and I am using the 64-bit version of X-plane 10. Now, I am not a hardware expert but I could imagine that the two applications make use of my hardware in different ways. This is my iMac: 27" iMac (medio 2011): Intel Core i5-2400 CPU (3,1GHz) 8GB DDR3 RAM AMD ATi Radeon HD 6970M (1GB DDR5 RAM) Can anyone here tell me if I would see a better performance if I up my RAM from 8GB to 16GB? Or is X-Plane more focused on GPU and VRAM. In addition, would it be worth the cost of the RAM modules; approx. $142/€134/£97 for 2 x 4GB modules. Thanks for your help in advance

X plane starter guide
There is also a question of P3D licenses. It is not an entertainment product; meaning if you are not a student, teacher, a student pilot or trained pilot, you do not meet the criteria for a license and may not use to application. That many seem to do it anyway is another thing. Personally, my machine is not powerful enough to run P3D smoothly with the settings I want. Therefore, I recently bought X-Plane 10. I am still figuring at all out but I am really enjoying it so far... and then it is a 64-bit application. I would not say I have switched. I still have FSX. I have a lot of money invested in FSX. However, I cannot ignore the fact that I do not use FSX these days. PMDG has also started developing for X-Plane and one can only hope that RealAir and A2A will do the same. X-Plane 10 is just amazing

Words I need to share with our Community
AVSIM has brought so much value into my hobby. Thank you so much for this. As so many have already said the time has now come to focus on yourself and your loved ones. Spend as much time as you can with them and do what you feel is right at each moment. AVSIM is a thriving community and I am sure, you have a competent staff that can take over. Again, thank you so much for AVSIM and the immense value it brings to our hobby. My thoughts go to you and your loved ones and I shall pray that your remaining time shall be comfortable, painless and that you, at the end, can move on looking back at a great life with a sense of joy and satisfaction of everything you have experienced, learned, and accomplished. You have brought joy and value into many people's lives. Know that this is a great accomplishment that only few achieve.

Taxiing with the Throttle in Idle Position
Ok, I may have found out why I experience this unrealistic behaviour by reading Andy Goldstein's post in the thread Ground Handling on the X-Plane.org forums. He wrote: Maybe the odd behaviour is also caused because of this missing contact patch friction. I know about the parking brake trick. This is also how I do it. I have never flown the Tomahawk in the real world but I find it hard to believe that it would start taxiing when under 800RPM. I know that the Grob G155 (a carbon composite two seater) certainly wouldn't. I hope LR will fix this issue in the future as it makes this part for the "ultra realistic" sim a bit unrealistic. Anyway, I know the King Air can be a beast to taxi. I have only flown it in FSX (the C90B in my signature). However, if you "tame" the propellers it's a quite gentle lady

Taxiing with the Throttle in Idle Position
Hi, I'm new to X-Plane. It seems that the planes like to start rolling even though the throttle is in idle position. I have just bought the Tomahawk II from Alabeo and this one does it too. I have only flown the Grob G115 in the real world and I don't recall it behaving like this. Is this a bug in X-Plane in general or is there a setting I'm missing? Cheers, Hakim Harder

PMDG DC-6B on approach
I'm very excited to see PMDG releasing a plane for the X-Plane platform. I just bought it and really like it. I'm dazzled by the flight dynamics. I really hope to see developers like A2A Simulations, RealAir and EagleSoft come on board as well I hope PMDG will fully adopt X-Plane as a platform to develop for. I think would be a very important step to get more developers over; scenery developers as well.

X-Plane Ultra-Realism for FREE
I just bought X-Plane 10 on Steam recently. This looks great. I am slowly getting to know all this "X-Plane stuff". It is vastly different than FSX.

757, soon?
Does the company exist at all anymore?

Purchase Question is it worth waiting till Saturday
I have switched to FSX:SE. I am SO looking forward to this. I miss my 737 I have also just purchased X-Plane 10... now I want it for X-Plane also, haha

Maybe a dumb question but why are the tutorials only in Europe ?
I live in Europe. I can fly just as well in the US as in Europe. As I understand it transition altitude is FL180 in general in the US. Lbs/kgs and pressure types can be set up in most tubeliners. I have GA type airplanes where the altimeter is set in inches of mercury... we don't use that where I live; we use mb. If I can't change the settings in the plane I am flying, I can change it in the sim. No bigge really. As a foot note... just because I live in Europe doesn't mean I know how to fly in Switzerland. If you want to do it realistically I reckon you should learn the avaition laws in every single country as they can be different from each other. Also if the home country of your plane has restrictions that don't apply to local planes in Switzerland, they still apply to your plane. So... it can also be complicated for Europeans to fly in Europe Cheers,

Mindstar G1000
Hi, I was wondering if anyone here has been able to retrofit Mindstar's G1000 unit into the VC of the G1000 extension of this wonderful aircraft. And if so please show me how its done

Question from a P3D Newbie
Hi there, I recently bought P3Dv2 on an academic license. I do not have a high-end machine by today’s standard but it does live up to most of the recommended system requirements posted on LM's site. I have a 27″ iMac (mid 2011) with the following configuration: CPU: 3,1GHz quad-core Intel i5 2400 with 6MB L3 buffer RAM: 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 memory GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB GDDR5 HDD: 1TB 7200 rpm Question: Is there any hope for me to get a smooth and relatively good looking simulation experience with P3Dv2 with my system? Could it be tuned right for it? I'm not about to buy a new system any time soon. However, when I am, I am going to build it myself and make it a dedicated simulation system. I am running Windows 7 64-bit on a separate partition (Bootcamp), so when I run the simulator it runs as a native PC. I can run FSX really well on this system with the screen's native resolution of 2560×1440. I really want to love P3D as FSX is a dead platform. However, my FPS is really low inside the cockpit of the default airplanes; 9 to 14… 20 outside the plane. I have yet to go through the tuning guide in the learning center. This weekend I reinstalled Windows 7 and I'm currently setting up FSX using a certain FSXBible from another forum. If P3D is to much for my system I shall get e refund and stay with FSX for now. Cheers,

Should I bother?
Obviously, I want to buy this product and fly right away. I was writing this in hope of someone saying that they are running it on a similar or lower specced rig, and whether this is doable at all. I think GraemeBr answered my question. I have no problem with this plane not being the graphical beauty it can be as long as I can fly it without too much stuttering going on. I can always get the beautiful graphics when I upgrade to a new iMac (hopefully this January). With a studying girlfriend, two children, a house, and a car economics do play a part in my priorities, hehe :) Thanks a lot for your help, guys. It's much appreciated :)

Should I bother?
Yes. Mac OS X runs natively in 64bit mode. My iMac is a prime 2008 model. Native 64bit mode came later with the Snow Leopard edition of Mac OS X. However, I cannot install a 64bit Windows on this model. There is most likely a very technical hardware reason for this. Bootcamp won't let me install it. You can on newer models, however.

Should I bother?
Hi there,I'm running Windows 7 (32bit) on an iMac (can't run Windows in 64bit mode on this one). My specs are:3,06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo4GB 800MHz DDR2 RAMnVidia GeForce 8800 GS 512MBShould I bother buying this or would you suspect my system would cough too much under the strain of running this add-on? I may not be able to upgrade until around january.Cheers,Hakim Harder

Long haul and FS2Crew
>3. For my experience, 4X is about as fast as you can go on the>PMDG 747 without the plane starting to do funny things.I can confirm that you can fly the PMDG747 with up to 8x sim rate without any problems. I've flown both PMDG747 and Level-D 767 with 8x sim rate and they are both steady as a rock. Haven't testet it with the ATR as it's not really a long hauler, so it has never really been an issue, hehe.

Powerful and Silent 744F
Yes. Lower lobe loaders = lower deck.As you can see the aft left cargo door is open. In the keyboard assignment menu you only get to assign two keys or key combinations for opening the doors. These are called "Cargo Nose" and "Cargo Side". I'd expect the forward right, aft right, and aft left to open upon pressing the "Cargo Side" key(s). Only the aft left opened.About the sounds. This problem is both external and internal.

Widescreen PMDG panel is funny...:(
Still stretched out of proportion though.

Powerful and Silent 744F
Yup, I know about the wings and they were endeed loaded.http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/4263/sia01tt9.jpgAnother thing I wondered about was that I could not get the lower lobe loader to show up. Nor could I open the main door but I'm not sure if this is modelled in the 744F.http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/5694/sia02kl9.jpgSo I'm actually up to 3 problems now.1) Taxiing a full aircraft feels like it is empty.2) Extremely quiet PW4062 engines.3) No lower lobe loaders.I don't know what should be wrong with my setup. Every other aircraft I have, taxi as they should. They also have engines I can hear. It's pretty strange :(EDIT: Oh btw... The aircraft load was set to full. Config was this:Pax WT: 2160Cargo WT: 268290ZFW: 634976TOW: 871519Fuel: 236543For this aircraft MZFW is 635000 and MTOW is 875000. These meassures are of course in LBS.

FSX and 747-400(F)
According to the info given on the PMDG Ops site there'll be an FSX-patch for the 744/F but not for the 737NG's. There'll be an new 737NGX in stead.Personally I'm hoping to see a functional weather radar in the patch :D

Powerful and Silent 744F
HiI just completed my first flight with the 744F. The model was Singapore Airlines Cargo, which uses the PW4062 engines. I noticed a few differences from the 744 in performance, which I found rather strange.1) The aircraft was fully loaded to just under the MTOW (TOW was 871.519lbs). In spite of that I hardly needed to touch the throttles before the plane was racing down the taxiway as if it was empty; it really felt like it was empty. This didn't seem to be the case with the 744. So I figured that either there was a strange bug or the PW4062 engines are hella powerful. Personally I don't believe them to be as powerful as I experienced them. I had to use the brakes a lot more than I usually need to. Any thoughts on this?2) These super powerful PW4062 engines were also suprisingly silent. I believe the had a little sound. But again either the 744 is super noisy or the 744F comes with some sort of super sound reducing insulation in the cabin and flight deck. A bug? Or is there a value I should adjust in some cfg-file? Please not the overall sound... then my other aircraft will become the super noisy fleet from ####, hehe.I hope you guys can help me a bit here :)Cheers,
