October 7, 200619 yr Hi all,Just wondering about the engine variants for the MD-11, Im presuming all models only use the PW engine type, but what are the differences between these two variants as shown in these pictures?http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1120051/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1114076/L/And finally what does it mean when the lady says "Stabiliser Motion", its not serious I hope? :)Armen L Cholakianhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/betaimg.jpg Armen L CholakianPMDG Sound Engineer
October 7, 200619 yr Armen; No; not all MD-11's use the same type of engines.. KLM as shown in yr picture is using GE engines while SR is using the PW'sThe lady calls "stabilizer motion" when the horizontal stabilizer is moving. The Stabilizer corrects the trim (centre of gravity position of the aircraft) in flight. As the aircraft is using fuel, the COG is changing, depending of the location of the tank where the fuel comes from. The "lady" only comes into action when there is a large stablizer movement and in real flight this only happens when the aircraft is gaining or losing speed during takeoff and landing... when cruising the corrections are small and not enough to trigger the lady...Purpose of this warning is to alert the crew of any stablizer movement as unwanted movement is a potentional danger to the flightrgds - Dick=
