Two sound problems

Featured Replies

HiProblem 1 is: after I updated sound to the PMDG747, I can no loner hear the sound of TCAS being set. Dial Moves clockwise OK but no sound.Problem 2 is: upon approach and speed reduction I occasionally hear a startling horrible grinding and screeching sound for sevral seconds. It only goes away if I change views and come back to 2D and then it disappears. How do I remedy these problems. Thanks Bill

Bill-I'm not certain what sound you are expecting to hear when TCAS is set... No changes have been made there...As for the screeching/grinding sound- I'm going to assume you aren't dragging the gear through the trees. ( :-) ) This sounds like a driver issue with your sound card. Have you updated/installed the latest drivers?

Been meaning to tell you guys, I had a chance to try out the new sounds....The engine whine when powering up about midway through...you know that awesome kinda high pitch whine sound...very cool! :-) Great job to your sound gurus.

Bill.. I installed the sound update the day it was released.. I have experienced none of the probs you mention above.. Sounds like (no pun intended) you may have some other issues.. Hope you get it sorted out.------------------------------------------------------------------Joe FritschChief Operations OfficerNoble Air VAhttp://www.nobleair.com"It's not the fall that kills ya. If not, then yeah sounds like a driver issue like RSR said.

GentlemenI thank you for your responses but my problem is real. I am not hitting trees or have the gear in landing position at high speed.I am usually perfectly alighed with the glide slope.I have logged in hundreds of hours of flying the PMDG747 and before that the PSS 747.I also did not have the sound probelm before. I do not have the problem with any of the PMD737ng, LDS767, or PSS T7.AS for the first problem. On the Com panel transpoder when you turn dial from XPDR to TA or TA/RA you hear after a few seconds that the "setting is OK" that is no longer there. It does bother me much but why it disappeared.I have the SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio sound card, drivers are up to date and is performing superb with all my other addons.Bill

Well, I have the same sound card and know that it is working FINE on my machine, so that suggests other problems (corrupted install of the update?)As to the TCAS sound, it sounds like there is a confusion.Sounds the XPDR/TCAS Switch makes:On rotate from Stby, XPDR, TA, TA/RA to one of the others, it clicks slightly. On rotate from Stby to Test it runs a test (visible on the ND if you have completed IRS alignment). At the end of that Test it aurally anounces "TCAS system test OK" or "TCAS system test FAIL" This previous is probably what you are thinking of as far as the "TCAS" Sound. It's still there, and in the same place it has always been, if you were getting it somewhere else, then it was a bug.-Brian
