Non-Precision Approaches?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone..i was wondering if someone could tell me how to shoot a non-precision approach like NDB or VOR app using the FMC. And would it descend to the DA or MDA like it does on the ILS app?ciao

Hi, please sign your real name to all your posts, it's a forum rule that you should have read before you posted.---First off, which aircraft, the 744 of the NG? The FMC capabilities are different between them. The 744 is capable of full LNAV/VNAV guidance during a non-precision approach. If the approach is not in the navdata, you'll need to build it manually by entering the waypoints for it onto the FMC's LEGS page and setting the appropriate crossing altitude and speed for each fix along the approach path. The manual has full information on how to create custom waypoints (for example making a DME fix along a radial like you'd see in a VOR approach).

They have policy on this forum that everyone must sign his/her name when posting. I am afraid "ciao" is not enough. If you search this forum (use advanced search option) and search for the string "non precision approaches" you will get quite a bit of information. This subject had been discussed here numerous times.Michael J.http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/9320/apollo17vf7.jpg

Also Mike Ray's checkride book for the 744 has great info on non precision approaches. Joe
