July 18, 200817 yr Craig:The only additions I would suggest are-The only time that Autostart is not recommended on RB211s is when operating in very high (+6000) locales- full manual procedures. Also, at airfields between 2000' and 6000'or when ambient temps of 30C or greater are experienced- it is recommended that the engines be Autostarted started one at a time. For the RB211s it is the Start switch, THEN the Fuel Control Switch.CONT IGN provides a measure of operational insurance and relight- not Autostart.Best-Carl F. July 18, 200817 yr ALMOST spot on Craig...You should pull the starter THEN set the ful cutoff switch to RUN. This way you don't get any annoying EICAS messages. The APU is powerfull enough to start 2 engines at a time.Martin

The>APU is powerfull enough to start 2 engines at a time.>>>MartinI've seen this method used too, but the PMDG documentation and TRC says to flick the fuel cutoff switch to RUN first, then the starter. Both methods work in the sim, would that be so in the real aircraft Qavion? July 19, 200817 yr From a Boeing 747-425 manual:Engine Start ProcedureNormal start sequence is 4, 3, 2, 1.Two engines may be started simultaneously.Captain First OfficerCall
July 20, 200817 yr "Both methods work in the sim, would that be so in the real aircraft Qavion?"The engines can be autostarted both ways in real life (airplane logic is satisfied both ways). AFAIK, there should be no fault messages generated using either method. The PMDG manual may be based on a particular airline's procedures. My preference is for pulling the start switches first, as these must be pulled first for a manual start.Cheers.Q>
July 20, 200817 yr Commercial Member Qavion and Carl,Oops.. forgot it was N3 not N2.. lol.. I sometimes forget, the GE and P&W only have N1 and N2 is that right? Think this is why I was getting confused.. Interesting stuff about the auto-ignition and auto-relight though.. Will try to do some background reading on those :) Always good to learn more about the systems and how they operate..CheersCraig Craig Read, EGLL
