Ah yes, Aspen has always been one of my favorites approaches to fly. Hi Wallace,Madeira rwy05, is also very interesting for landing PIC767. Madeira is a famous tourist destination, a small Portuggese Island in the Atlantic Ocean. At my web site http://home.planet.nl/~nwkaan/ you can find 22 pictures of me landing there. Go to screenshots, Madeira.Have fun!Kiek

Personally the most interesting approaches for me are the published visuals, displaced localisers, and DME ARCs.Some of my favorites...Kelowna, BC - CYLW LOC/DME RWY 15 (not a visual.. but not a piece of cake either, scenic during the day.. confusing at night, and downright scary in bad weather.. pay attention to that vertical profile and check the altimeter..)New York, NY - Express Way Visual Runway 31 KLGA (I've left a lot of burning metal on this one.. just ask the folks in NY on VATSIM - best to be dirty and slow on this one..)Washington, DC - River Visual Runway 19 KDCA (Tight turn to final - great at night and easy to mix up the runways)Los Angeles, CA - Stadium Visual 24L/R KLAX (A classic - flown by many of you, and no one.. I mean *NO ONE* flies it better than Henry in his PIC as "ACA1180")Kamloops, BC - LOC/DME - CYKA (not a 767 approach, but still a challening one in any aircraft.. try flying it and landing on runway 8)Santa Anna, CA - Freeway Visual 19R KSNA (see Disneyland and Anaheim stadium, turn and land.. that runway ends pretty quick)San Francisco, CA - TIP TOE Visual 28L KSFO (a classic - dont hit those power lines near the bridge.)San Francisco, CA - Quiet Bridge Visual 28L/R KSFO (an awesome ending to the modesto arrival)San Francisco, CA - Down the Bay Visual 28R KSFO (discontinued but on a nice day its a magical end to a flight when transitioning from the golden gate arrival - can you make the turn from downwind over the San Mateo bridge and roll out lined up perfectly?)New York, NY - VOR 13L/R - KJFK (Cross ASALT at 3000 and follow the lights in - tight turn to final - if you mess it up you can expect a long wait till they sequency you in again)Albuquerque, NM - ILS Runway 3 - KABQ (DME ARC)San Diego, CA - LOC RWY 27 (nothing special unless low ceiling - just close to the buildings thats all)Prince George, BC - LOC/BC/VOR/DME 2 RWY33 - CYXS (DME ARC ending in a Backcourse Localiser with a massive cliff..muhaha)Burbank, CA - Four Stacks Visual Runway 15 - KBUR (Keep your cool while your GPWS screams at you - Terrain! Terrain! )and of course...Aspen, CO - VOR/DME - KASE (done it in many aircraft.. never a 767.. and do not plan on it.. for a real twist try this as a cloud break and then enter the pattern to land on Runway 33)Have fun .Ian Elchitz CYWG

Hi Kiek,Really enjoyed your screen shots of Madeira, a better man than me :-lol I recently flew that approach for my VA in the PSS A320 and that was scary enough, but a 767....!Another 'nice' one is 09 into Gibralta but I wouldn't try that in a 767 nor at night ;)

Hey, what scenery is that for Madeira? I have a rather decent scenery, but it doesn't show the concrete pillars as it does in your shots.I landed at Madeira, then LPFU, now LPMA, in 1997 when I was twelve. I was a lot shorter and so was the runway. :-) That was before I knew it was famous/infamous, but still it was a very interesting landing in a 757. (I later threw up in the bus on the way to the hotel but that's another story. x( :-erks)Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

Hi Martin,The secenry is the Madeira 2002 scenery from Airsim, you can find it at www.simmarket.com

Nice list Ian. Some of my personal favourites are those San Fransisco approaches. Made me crave for some PIC and some VATSIM to fly them again - but nowadays I'm stuck with a P133 laptop (and real C172 flying that most often make up for the lack of PIC :-lol) I also enjoy the Mill Visual to runway's 28L/R in Portland, Oregon. This was the first published visual I tried in FS and it was amazing to actually see the FS landscape match up with the chart. Not too challenging but it was special.

Thats what my main screenshot is ,the vor/dme approach into aspen, I have done it so many times Ive lost count. Its a little trickey but the key is getting the aircraft slow(I use speed intervention on the descent, Im a little fast on this turn to the approach course) and in a landing config early. If your to fast after the DBL vor you will have a hell of a time with this approach, I try to have the aircraft in the landing config gear down and flaps 30 at redtable vor.If you get it just right you can do this without the use of speedbrakes whatsoever .Give it try you can setup a short hop out of kden to kase.

KASE, That's a good joke...Ever been there? For realism you should show a 10 knots tailwind. Runway 33 is only for aircraft with a 93 foot wingspan and below, however, even if you could, you would have to maneuver the 767 like it's a jet fighter. I did it in real life on a Metroliner(JUST LAST WEEK), right downwind for runway 33 with winds gusting up to 20 knots and it's just hardcore. Again, that's why we love sims right?Pedro

Yes I have been in there in real life twice in one of my partners aero commanders, and yes It would not be done in real life in a 767 but as you say thats the beauty of a sim, you can try all the things that you would not get away with in reality. BTW I was landing rnwy 15

Thanks to you, I have settled on my first location for my "Sunday ----- PIC on VATSIM flights resuming on September 8. I had posted a few of those last spring and we had some great times. With my normal busy summer schedule, I have held back but Fall is right around the corner now. Last July in Toronto, a few of us from the forum were fortunate to meet Pedro Sousa and Nuno Chambel from the Lisboa FIR in Portugal. These guys were a ton of fun and I have been looking forward to getting a chance to line up something over there. I just bought and downloaded the scenery for Madeira and will load it up in just a few minutes. My September 8th route will be LPPT-LPMA and then LPMA-LPPD. So now it's off to find some charts and start planning. Thanks for the post!
