July 23, 200322 yr IzI'm not offending or insulting anyone! This post is from August 2002 loooooong before your AMAZING 757 airfile was released!YOUR airfile and the beautyfull IFDG V2 757 is the one I use now with the PIC Panel. BTW, Thank you for your work!Back then in August 2002 we did not have any good 757. We were still looking!Hope this clears things up.George DorkofikisAthens, Greece
July 23, 200322 yr George, my sincerest apologies. I did not read that correctly. Seeing as messages on this forum are so quickly moved back, I was too lazy to check the dates.Tero, the slipperiness depends on how you fly it, what the atmospheric conditions are and how heavy you are. I have been flying the 757-300 now for a while, and believe me, it's even harder to slow down. You should have no problems getting the plane to slow down in time as long as your planning is correct. In practice, I decelerate through to flaps 30 on the approach at just 1000 ft above the ground and have final approach speed and power on by 600 ft. It's exactly the same in FS2002.Iz
July 23, 200322 yr Iz,Thanks for the reply. Haven't seen you in here for a while too, where have you been lurking ? :).Regarding your airfile. Can you do a complete flight in FS2002 with PIC+v2airfile in a manner that is similar to real-life ops, including takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, approach and landing? What is especially important to me is the power settings in different phases of flight and aircraft behaviour, slipperiness etc. How does the V2 airfile compare to the real plane, in your honest opinion ? And also, what airfile are you yourself using ??regardsTero PPL(A)
July 23, 200322 yr Tero,Yes, not only does the airfile (I use it all the time) work as it should during all normal ops, it is also accurate when flying single engine (which is quite hard to fly using a joystick and rudders without real feel as in the real thing or a big sim), which is something most other aircraft airfiles don't do well, I end up crashing almost all of them. :)The only thing is that I have heard people report a situation where it starts banking, but I haven't been able to duplicate that myself.Other than that, I do all kinds of flight, manually or on autopilot/FMC etc, short, long, visual approaches etc. Regarding the power settings, I made it so that the TMC (thrust mgmt computer) does takeoff, climb thrust and all reductions well, but not necessarily with the right N1, N2, EGT values. Since 767PIC does not model the Rolls Royce engine, it wouldn't be a good idea to try and get N1 speeds correct anyway. EPR is used for power setting in the real thing. Regarding the fuel flow, it should be pretty accurate (although the FMC doesn't calculate it obviously) except during taxi, where I have a higher than normal fuel flow in order to get correct taxi thrust, but that's a tradeoff.http://www.planetizzy.com/files/DSC06204.JPGIz
July 23, 200322 yr Iz,I tried to get up and running with the 757 when your airfile first came out. I was never able to get sorted out however. As I remember, I was trying to merge a AAL 757 with P&W engines and I could never get close to the numbers for performance that others were reporting. After a few weeks, I shelved it and have not looked back till now. I do have the utmost confidence that your airfile is very good and I would really like to give that another shot and see if I can come up with an aircraft config, model, and textures (hopefully AAL) that work well together. If you or anyone would care to set me straight on how to properly get that done, it would be much appreciated. Also, one of the problems I had before were ZFW entries. I remember making a post back then asking if someone would try and create a simple table listing actual ZFW and equivalent FMC ZFW. I never could figure that part out.
July 23, 200322 yr Hi,I would also like a little help with the 757 config for PIC.I have done it, but it just doesn't feel right, so there must be something wrong with it. I'm using the PW2040 models (like Finnair).Tero PPL(A)
July 23, 200322 yr I'm no 757 pilot so I don't know exactly what to expect, but I do know ballpark figures for what performance should be, and I find that everything with Iz's FDE was as good or better than I expected with the exception of descent under 10000...Iz, you said yourself that at idle thrust, the plane will descend at about 1500fpm while maintaining 250kts. I find that in FS, flying with your FDE, the plane typically descends at well under 1000fpm at idle thrust while maintaining 250kts in a clean config. I'm forced to use the speedbrakes every time just to get a rate of 1500fpm, sometimes having to extend them fully to get that rate. I love the way it flies other than the slow descent, and I've been trying to figure out for months if/how I could change the FDE so it descends a bit faster without gaining airspeed, but to no avail. The slow descent has occurred both with RR and PW variants, and I have not modified the dynamics at all. Am I missing something here, or is this a common issue?Ryan
July 24, 200322 yr i will give it a try if you don't mind i am a hardcore 767PIC pilot and loves the 757 as well and i can't wait until a real commercial or good freeware package come out. Anyway send me the airfile if no [email protected] Best Regards Adib Afraj
July 24, 200322 yr Iz, I've downloaded the iFDG 757v2 and completed the PIC merge with the electrical section. I've seen mention of your current RR air file being v5. The version that came with the Continental 757 from iFDG was v4. Where can I obtain your v5 for the RR engines? Thanks.:-wave
August 7, 200322 yr I would like to learn more about use of the PIC767 panel (which I have) and the 757. Where would I [email protected]
October 21, 200322 yr Hi George,I am a 75 f/o and have recently discovered Avsim and Wilco Pic.I would be happy to help.RegardsDc:)
