PIC on VATSIM - PAR Screenshots

Featured Replies

Thanks Vulcan,Yes, PAR is a military operation. PAR is provided in Canada to civilians (on VATSIM) as there is not a lot of military traffic to provide control on...it's a way to keep the PAR controller fresh, even if it is not realistic to have 767's on a PAR approach...it is a lot of fun for the pilot and presumably for the ATC as well. The PAR's in Canada are conducted at military airfields only.If the UK boys want to call it a PIC-SAR fly-in, that's great. Just looking for ideas at this point, Mike Bevvington is the Chief Co-Ordinator and Producer for VATSIM/PIC flights...I am just one of the lackies ;-)Bye for now,Rob.

> Great pictures Mike and Ian. Thanks - I know I speak for Mike as well when I say that we both had fun taking them.>Its a pity I couldn't make >this event but I had some real-world stuff to attend to last We missed you.>Sunday. The first and only time I did a PAR approach I >literally broke out in a sweat. Having observed you as a "blip" on my scopes many times you seem to sweat a lot while you fly. LOL.. j/k> [...] how do you reposition the Tower view? You need FSNAV for this. You simply right click somewhere on the MAP and select "reposition Tower View to here" followed by setting the altitude of the tower you would like. It usually takes me 4-5 moves to get the perfect angle.>Ian, what screen capture utility are you using? For this even I used HyperSnap. I had it set on AutoSave, so every time I hit my PrintScreen key the program would take a screenshot and save it with an incremental file name (snapXXXX.JPG). It was really nice to use, and did not appear to affect my computer's stability at all. I only wish I had selected that the screenshots be taken at a higher resolution.Hope to see you sweating at the next event.Ian.

LOL..you try flying with a fussy two-year old on your lap. :-)Thanks for the response; I forgot all about FSNAV. My new obsession is AI traffic so I was trying to move my tower around to take some snapshots of the incredible traffic at KATL. Nowadays I'd rather watch the traffic run against a real-world schedule than fly. :-)I use Hypersnap also; I was thinking you might be using something else. You can set Hypersnap to take screen captures at regular intervals so you don't have to press the Print Screen key.

Hey Stiff! When flying PIC, the only two things I open FSNav for is to set the tower view (location and altitude) and to check my position relitive to crossing center boundries if not currently being controlled. I know in FS2000 you could also set the tower view by dragging the tower icon on the FS Map Page. Not certain but thought that was still available in 2002.We did miss you last Sunday. I kept looking for you to pop up but later figured you had real world diversions. You would have loved it.

Hey Mike and all.Yes, dragging the tower is still possible in FS2K2.

Thanks guys; I never knew you could drag the Tower in FS.Mike, sorry I missed the flight on Sunday; hopefully I'll be able to make the next one.

A suggestion: Next time you guys go PICing on VATSIM, please don't do it on the same date as we Speed Birds cross the pond.. I have to say, in the time that you, Dan, were with us on Gander Oceanic, they were amazing. A real party atmosphere! :-hah
