November 27, 200223 yr Randy,Let it be clear, that I was by no means disrespecting your work. I wonder, if you sometimes think that I'm being arrogant and "with an attitude" ;D. Good lord no ...But, to the question at hand. Cartoonish ? I'll tell you why.Look at the old and the new bitmaps closely. You will see, that the new one has very clearly defined gauges and all the other "forms" that are visible in the panel. It looks VERY much like the PSS777, same kind of "drawn graphics" look in it. Me thinks that it looks "cartoonish" or "unnatural" or something else. Now, the old version of the bitmap does NOT have so clearly defined borders in the different parts of the panel, and this looks waaayyy more realistic and true to life than these micrometer-accurate lines that are seen in the new picture. In addition, the old bitmap has the nice lighting "effects" (ie. shades and the panel color is much RICHER and DEEPER than in the new one), and it just simply looks MUCH better than the new one.Hope I made myself understood, English is not my mother's tongue :(best regards,Tero PPL(A)
November 27, 200223 yr Randy,I think it's outstanding. I don't have the V/S indicator but how do I go about getting the V/S indicator on my original copy that you sent a long time ago to me. I haven't been tuned in to this forum lately and would appreciate it if you could tell me how I can incorporate the V/S indicator into your original panel that did not have it.P.S. I don't care what the color of the panel is when I'm in the VFR landing phase. I'm looking at the gauges. The panel could be 'pink' & I don't really give a d..You have done an outstanding job in making this 'Sim' the greatest..Regards,
November 28, 200223 yr Author Thank you! I will send you the one with the vsi on it for now. I have got the gauges working that I was working on, so it won't be long untill I release my newest one. Please email me at [email protected] and I will send you the vsi panel. Best Wishes, Randy Smith Randy J Smith
November 28, 200223 yr Author Now this is what I was asking for. You have given me reasons why and I can look into making the new panel better. As to the "very clearly defined gauges" not looking real. Every real panel does have "defined outlines". Now I bet you there is not one panel out there worth anything with not well defined outlines! It is possible to add more shading to give it the worn and darker look so I will look into that. I don't know if you are aware that there is only 256 colors to work with and it is very difficult to do shading and for that matter just comming up with the panel background coloring. If you go much darker in color things appear "purple" in game. There are ways around this I know but this is a learning as I go thing. Thanks for the suggestions, hopefully I can create something that everyone will enjoy. Best Wishes, Randy Smith Randy J Smith
November 28, 200223 yr Hi Randy,Sure every real panel has clearly defined outlines, but they are not visible due to varying lighting conditions and dust etc. etc. Your older bitmap (ie. modified WELP bitmap) captures those real-life variables quite nicely and the view does not look so sterile as the new one.I don't know about the color stuff or anything else regarding panel designing. I know that you are doing your best, but I consider it my responsibility to tell you what I think about whatever modifications you are working on :). I'm merely telling my personal opinion, which is based on my personal preferences, nothing more. The technicalities around this matter are for the most part unfamiliar to me, but I will set those aside and concentrate on the final result, i.e. what I'm seeing, and then try to tell you what I think :).And finally, you can never please everyone, never. It's a lot like life in general; when you bow to someone, you'll certainly show your bottom to someone else. This is just the way it is, and it's OK. My PIC-experience is now a hundred times better thanks to the landing-views by yourself and Phil. Also the PW sounds are incredible!best regards,Tero PPL(A)
