Traditional Landing View

I think after flying a couple of landings I feel that this one really has the PIC look and feel, as to the posts, you can only do so much with them being that the pic panel is not really an excact copy of a 767 cockpit {dimension wise} but I think that these look good fying with and I do "feel" more inclosed in the cockpit. Capt. BBall,I just wanted to get your honest opinion on the photograph vs. perspective issue. Obviously the original photo from which the panel was extracted was looking down quite a bit compared to your approach into MSP. How does the runway look to you, perspective-wise? If you could change any one thing, what would it be? Thanks! Just trying to get as many captain's opinions as possible.Sincerely,Phil Geddes

Can i also have one? [email protected]

Hey, I would like to try this view as well, please send to [email protected]

Hello Randy,Thank-you for sending me the VFR view so promptly. May I ask for your latest "big screen" view?Thank-you once again!! Keep up the great [email protected]

Hey guys,Boy, this "landing view" thing has taken on a life of it's own, eh? My hat is off to the guys that are putting in all the hard work to get it right.AFA 767 PIC? We all know the "stock" view is not that realistic (at least from the propective of the 757 cockpit). Since I haven't flown any of the "VFR Landing" views yet (I actually haven't had the time to fly anything lately), I can't really comment on them other than from the screenshots I've seen. When I was flying 767 PIC for the review, I used the .50 zoom when looking ahead....again, not totally realistic, but it gave you the feeling of sitting up rather high in the cockpit of a heavy better than the "regular" view. From Phil's screenshot, I would say that is about as close as your gonna get...it looks VERY realistic to me. AFA what instruments do you need for landing? (I'm talking about the last five miles or so)IVSI-nope...primarily concerned with flying the glideslope (and/or PAPI).EHSI-nope...keep it on the centerline with the LOC indications and/or the good ol' "MK 1 eyeball"Airspeed indicator-yep...gotta fly that Vref (or in NWA's case...Vref +5).ADI-yep...this "one glance" instrument will give you LOC/GS and "fast/slow" indications all with a quick peek.Altimeter-yep...esp. if doing an IFR approach. From the PNF's "200 to touchdown" call on a visual approach, I probably glance back inside once or maybe twice before beginning the flare. I quick look at airspeed and the glideslope and that's it...back outside. Try to work hard at getting it on the centerline and KEEPING IT THERE! LOL.... On the last trip, the F/O was new to the jet (3 months or so from the left seat of the DC-9). He flew a visual approach into KDTW one night to rwy 04L with the winds at 330 17 gusting to 25 and did a super job of flying the crab down final, at about 100', kicking out the crab, lowering the wing a bit, and firmly putting it on the centerline (not a time to try for the provibial "greaser"...it was quite bumpy). He got LOTS of commpliments on his landing from the customers, and he deserved them...Have fun guys, Later,BBall--------------------Capt. Randy-Now THAT view I like. I've been interested in your other views, but the squashed DRMI always deterred me from adding it to my panels. This one is a treat. VERY nice!Regards,Dan Zollnerhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg

Randy, that looks fantastic, can you send it to me as well. (Second last from your post)[email protected]

Good post BBall.I think everyone has to remember that whatever the view, it will have to be a compromise because in the real aircraft you cannot see all the instruments and the outside view in one "scan" or view. Your eyes are constantly scanning from inside (ie looking at a downward angle at the instruments) to the outside (straight ahead). When you are focused outside you really can't read any of the instruments and vice versa. It is a constant scan from inside to out and back, and when inside you are keying on certain instruments, depending on the conditions and phase of the approach (airspeed is definitely primary but personally I pay more attention to the VSI than BBall seems to indicate that he does in his scan). Obviously, unless you are doing the dual monitor thing, this won't work in Flight Sim so there has be a compromise and Phil seems to have achieved a good compromise IMO.Kevin in CYOW

Hi Randy,I would appreciate a copy of your latest VFR viewRegardsLee

Let me say that the reason I want to use a "PIC LOOK" is that when switching from PIC's main panel to one like Phil's or my OTHER one like his, is that it might "look" like a 757/767 but it does not look anything like PIC's main panel. Now I am not so much concerned about this seeing what I want to acheive here is a good alternitive to using the main panel for landing. I CAN make it have the same VIEW as Phil's, thats no problem but what I want to know is how many of you guys would want the ivsi and ehsi or go with a cut just under the adi? So i'll leave it up to the users of my previous panels, What do you want? Best Wishes, Randy Smith

Hi RandyIf its not to much trouble I'd like that panel also. Thanks in advanceArnold [email protected]

Hi Randy,Could you please send me your panel...Would like to check it out and hope that I'll be tending less to over-rotate as I have been doing due to the perspective in Phil's panel.
