December 12, 200223 yr Hey All,I have not stopped playing around with the view, and have been constantly evaluating it and getting feedback from 57/67 pilots. I was on a flight from the West Coast a couple of weeks ago. The captain was nice enough to take a "mental snapshot" of the runway perspective. Both pilots agreed that the perspective in my first product was too shallow, making the aircraft appear lower than it should. Alas... 1.0 seems to be the best ZOOM setting for the VFR/LANDING View after all. Also, many of you found the view too low, and many found the SHIFT + 5 view pretty useless. So... going off of one of Capt BBall's pics that I used for comparison, I've come up with a compromise.SHOT 1. The view looks low, because in fact it is the perspective of the pilot looking "down" at his instruments. That's why you hardly see any sky.SHOT 2. This SHIFT + 5 view simulates the pilot pointing his eyes staight ahead... Of course there is more sky, but also you don't see anything below the glare-shield. Overall... even though the ground will appear to be passing slower (as it actually does looking forward from the flight-deck) on approach, you won't end up coming in too high on the approach because you think you're too low. Of course, you still have the option of substituting Randy's view for SHIFT + 5!Sincerely,Phil Geddes
December 12, 200223 yr And, due to popular request, I'll be removing the dirt specks from the windscreen...Phil Geddes
December 12, 200223 yr >And, due to popular request, I'll be removing the dirt >specks from the windscreen... Just my $0.02 about those specks ...I think it actually goes against the realism to have them there and the reason is that in real life and 3D world pilot would normally focus his eyes at infinity when looking out the window - in such case the specs would be totally out of focus and the brain would not even register them. Sort of like shooting pictures with a lens full of dirt specs - they will never be visible on the photograps and the only way their presence would be felt is through limiting the amount of light that enters the camera.Michael J. December 13, 200223 yr Hi Phil,Well I for one like the specs because one of them is about the same position as the samll V axis indicator, very useful for lining up the runway during landing. Can we have one copy with and one without specs please. Alternatively can we have the small V available on your view.CheersIan
December 13, 200223 yr Well... how would everyone feel about having just one small spec, placed exactly where the "v" would be if you had it on? I'm sure it wouldn't be a huge bother to those who wouldn't use it. Regards,Phil Geddes
December 13, 200223 yr I'm sorry,I just found it humorous that you were getting rid of a certain view because it was not real enough but there is always the option of filling that empty space with my panel. Anyways, I think I might have that dreaded upper panel fixed so I can have the lights etc. See ya! Randy Smith Randy J Smith
December 13, 200223 yr Nope, I know you're not like that Phil. Phil, I have made a way to have the upper panel COMBINED with the main panel, by the way you won't be able to tell that I have done this except you cannot move the upper around. So, by combining these into ONE PANEL we can use the forward view for our panels. I am finishing up this new one and will try out some landing panels with it. I have modified Lee's xml gauge to close and open the right panels and it DOES LOAD the forward view settings for landing. Will let you know how its going if you want. I think that this new panel of yours will be a fine canidate for trying this new setup out. For everyone else who use our landing panels, this does mean landing lights, gear, and rain will now work although I have gear fixed already :]. Best, Randy Randy J Smith
December 13, 200223 yr That is excellent news! Let me know how I can help coordinate this process... I have finals over the next five days, so I may not be as accesible as possible, but I'll be checking this forum and my email. Thanks.Sincerely,Phil Geddes
December 13, 200223 yr I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hehe. I really got it working. I have landing lights, rain, and the gear problem all worked out now. With one easy click back and forth to the views!! Thanks to Lee for the use of his xml gauge {modified for use}. I am now setting the {view settings} to default for POSKY ONLY. Landing lights don't work with default bird. Also I will adjust view_dir for the Posky eyepoint which is differnt than the default too. You will be able to use it with the default but I won't deal with problems for anyone doing so. Best Wishes, Randy J. Smith Randy J Smith
December 13, 200223 yr Congrats Randy, You have done exceedingly well.Am looking forward to a copy as soon as it is ready.CheersIan([email protected])
