January 28, 200323 yr Because of the impending "State of the Union Address" I thought it might be fitting if Lee would be so kind as to give us a "State of The TCAS address.. So how about it Lee any word on the impending doom to VATSIM when us PIC'ers show up with TCAS on board...What's next from you nuts, WX radar, naw say it ain't soDon Harrison
January 28, 200323 yr I've got little TCAS blips crawling across my VSI, with relative altitude displayed. I haven't added the logic to decide whether they are hollow white diamonds, solid white diamonds, yellow circles, or red squares yet, but I have a handle on that. Initially there will be no sound and no RA commands on the VSI scale. As of last evening, I also have FS2002 crashing due to my gauge, so I have a sneaky intermittent bug in there somewhere due to recent code.Maybe within a couple weeks...Lee Hetherington (KBED)
January 28, 200323 yr President Lee, No doubt you are the man. Can't wait to work with that guageThanks for all your workDon Harrison
January 28, 200323 yr "white diamonds, solid white diamonds, yellow circles, or red squares"heh... sounds like a cereal advertisement .

January 31, 200323 yr I've made some great progress recently. Here's a teaser snapshot of the TCAS in action:http://www.sls.lcs.mit.edu/ilh/767pic/tcas-1.gifThis was taken at the relatively small resolution of 1024x768 showing things remain readable. I've got a first draft of the threat type logic working, but there are still things to do before I release this for beta testing. Do people prefer the color scheme where the self plane and 2nm ring are white and the diamonds cyan, or like this where the self plane and ring are blue and the diamonds white? I might make it an option that can be selected by the user.Should the front of the 2nm ring always be at the center of the gauge? I think so based on some airliners.net photos I've seen. This would tend to give better visibility behind at higher ranges.Should the TCAS targets be layered above the needle as I have done? I would think so.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
January 31, 200323 yr Here's the same display with an enlarged gauge:http://www.sls.lcs.mit.edu/ilh/767pic/tcas-2.gifLee Hetherington (KBED)
January 31, 200323 yr Stop teasing me ;-)Great stuff Lee, can't wait!Rob. System specs: Dual core E6300 (1.86g X 2), 2gb RAM, nvidea7800GT, Saitek yoke, CH throttle (6 lever), Soundblaster live.Add-ons: FSX: LDS767, FSL Concorde, FT E175/195, PMDG 747X/737X, Active Sky E, some freeware airports.Human specs: Desktop simulation since FS1, beta tester (LDS, FSL), 737NG simulator tech (Threshold Aviation), r sole+.
January 31, 200323 yr Is this an AI thing? Or is this something us VATSIM guys can look forward to aswell?
January 31, 200323 yr That looks smooth Lee, REAL smooth."Do people prefer the color scheme where the self plane and 2nm ring are white and the diamonds cyan, or like this where the self plane and ring are blue and the diamonds white? I might make it an option that can be selected by the user.""or like this" would be my choice, but a carrier option would be better."Should the front of the 2nm ring always be at the center of the gauge? I think so based on some airliners.net photos I've seen. This would tend to give better visibility behind at higher ranges."AgreedShould the TCAS targets be layered above the needle as I have done? I would think so.For sure, looks perfectWhat a FANTASTIC JOB getting the gauge to this point. I am sure you will work out the remaining bugs.
January 31, 200323 yr AIBridge, which talks to FSUIPC, can be used to make SquawkBox traffic look like AI traffic for the purposes of TCAS.The above displays were AI, however. I didn't think VATSIM controllers would like me chasing aircraft around trying to set off TAs and RAs.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
January 31, 200323 yr That's very very nice Lee. Thank you for spending the time on this for all of us to enjoy.Best Wishes,Randy J. [email protected]" A little learning is a dangerous thing"AMD XP2100 |MUNCHKIN512 DDR RAM |ECS[/b ]K7S5A MB |[b]GF364 MEG |WIN XP PRO Randy J Smith
