January 28, 200422 yr The last two days, ACA868 CYYZ-EGLL B763 has had this crazy route over Greenland/Iceland....the winds aloft do not dictate this is necessary, other trans atlantics are on regular paths...yesterday I figured they had an ETOPS deviation or something...but agani today, crazy northern route.Any ideas PIC-heads??http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/60030.jpg
January 28, 200422 yr Try this = Winds from the North into the UK.Hoping to gain a lot of time by taking advantage of these winds and routeing further north.Or maybe ACA are on an econ drive again - no money to pay for APU fuel :(
January 28, 200422 yr Rob,They are 2hrs late. The flight got delayed due to snow-storm... must have missed the slot. Or off course ETOPs INOP. I had the similar scenario aboard KLM691 because we got delayed... so they had to refile north of NATs... :-lol we were only 30 mins late. B744 at M.89 is a lot of fun.Best,Haroon

January 28, 200422 yr Still an odd route to take I guess even with the northerly airflow around the UK atm. This was BA92's route from last night (2300Z on the 27th)-B744/H-SIRWYX/C -CYYZ2300 -N0490F370 PEAR9 KENDI DCT MSS J586 YJN DCT 46N070W DCT MIILS N59A YYT/M085F390 NATS DOGAL/M085F390 NATS BABAN/N0476F390 UN544 DEVOL UL975 WAL UL10 HON BNN2A -EGLL0620 EGKK -EET/CZUL0023 KZBW0026 CZUL0033 A route roughly from St Johns towards Dublin. Average wind component on +25kts, pretty low for an eastbound crossing. Hardly any tailwind across the pond. This is BA92's route tonight (28th)CYYZ2300 -N0474F330 PEAR9 KENDI DCT MSS J586 YJN DCT 46N070W DCT MIILS/N0487F350 N49A COLOR/M085F380 NATS MALOT/M085F380 NATS BURAK/N0466F370 UL9 STU UP2 NUMPO/N040F230 Y3 NIGIT OCK1F -EGLL0626 EGKK -EET/CZUL0023 KNot too dissimilar from the previous nights. A little further south.Surely if there were signicant gains to be made from routing as far north as greenland then everybody would be at it?Was it the same aircraft on the ACA flights?
January 28, 200422 yr Yes, same aircraft both days....ACA868/869 is usually a 767-300.I can't see them having ETOPS problems both days...very weird...and the winds certainly do not dictate a deviation that far north for eastbound flight.3 children...no thanks. Will check the flight again tomorrow and see if there is a return to "normality".Rob. System specs: Dual core E6300 (1.86g X 2), 2gb RAM, nvidea7800GT, Saitek yoke, CH throttle (6 lever), Soundblaster live.Add-ons: FSX: LDS767, FSL Concorde, FT E175/195, PMDG 747X/737X, Active Sky E, some freeware airports.Human specs: Desktop simulation since FS1, beta tester (LDS, FSL), 737NG simulator tech (Threshold Aviation), r sole+.
January 28, 200422 yr Hi RobI see now the ACA868 departs early'ish am YYZ time arriving late pm UK time. Obv to take the most economical route at this time it may conflict with the westbound NATS.So, if my theory is correct u either route to the south or to the north of them.BA238 (BOS-LHR dep BOS 9'am ish EST) took the southerly option it seems.......-KBOS1315 -N0479F390 DCT FRILL DCT KANNI N37B BANCS/M084F410 DCT 46N050W 48N040W 50N030W 51N020W DCT DINIM/M084F410 UN514 GIPER/N0483F410 UL175 CRK UL607 NUMPO/N0447F230 Y3 NIGIT OCK1F ...seems like ACA took the northern option. That's my best guess neway :-)
January 29, 200422 yr Rob,I have seen this before with ACA 762's into GLA. Sometimes the same aircraft will operate the flight for a 2 or 3 day period. If during this time the APU happens to be u/s, then it is despatched non-ETOPS.Better to manintain the schedule and fix on the next period of scheduled down time for the aircraft.
January 29, 200422 yr hi,Depending on the Wind direction and Force, there is always a "minimum Time Route" for a flight; This Route can be very different from the "Orthodromy Route" (don't know if that's the correct spelling, in French: Orthodromie.)which join the depart and destination as a straight and direct line;Perhaps in this case this pilot choosed to fly this Minimum Time Route..regardsPaolo
January 29, 200422 yr Well, the tracker shows a "normal" route for ACA868 today...probably was an APU thing as you suggest Mark.Interesting stuff.PS - to DS - I do have a life!!

January 29, 200422 yr I think, therefore, I am.Thus, vis a vis the above, I have a life.I love you semi-carnally DS!Note: There is not one shread of original thought in the above statement, my apologies...it is so hard to be original when couped up in an office all day...I wish I was a thesbian and led a life of excitement, enjoying multiple orgasms with beautiful women, spending cash like mad, flying around with Johnny T...ahh, the life of DS, thesbian at large, is a good one for sure :-)Rob.
January 29, 200422 yr Commercial Member It's THESPIAN ya ignorant mook.Yes, this forum is in desperate need of a redo like up on the ladder, paint and bucket, original thought, Debbie Travis have at yer...Come on - am I expected to pull out the big stick (all 3 inches) and entertain you lot, or is there anyone else about with a heartbeat who can attempt to enliven and/or educate us here at the PIC forum?Rob, you have been known on occasion to flash some wit about. Flash us.Murf, for gawd's sake, drop the Sidney tar-pond induced winter blahs and write something interesting. Even if it's about your tawdry but fascinating life as a male stripper.Bevington, you Budweiser drinking, St.Louis Blues loving, Slave-for-Vatsimming Governor rumbling boob: get off yer duff and write something mindlessly irreverant. Even if it's NOT about FLIGHT TRAINING!Elchitz, you spineless code-writing, bad ATC vectoring, piece of unemployed, soon to be a Dada, Calgarian crap: ENTERTAIN. Afterall, you are Jewish.McGrath: stop playing with the throttle and put together a plan to regale us with Scottish folklore and bawdy tales of massive savings at the local market!Bill VC: never mind.Teropa: drop the 757 pics and post some semi-clad Finnair flight attendants (male or female, no matter). Now that's entertainment. And anyone else: Come on, hit the keys, lighten the day, for you never know when your "hard drive" will suddenly stop spinning.
