April 21, 200422 yr Could someone explain what the FIX key is used for - or tell me where to read about it. Have searched Google but cannot get any proper explanation.
April 21, 200422 yr The FIX key is implemented in the first patch and fully explained in the associated documentation. The Wilco site has the links:http://www.wilcopub.com/Extra_767PIC.html(includes the FMC manual, but I don't know if it has the patch documentation), andhttp://www.wilcopub.com/support_767PIC.htmlfor the patches.Hope this helpsGeoff
April 21, 200422 yr Author Thanks Goeff - but no help there with the extra manuals. I want to know what it is used for when flying - just to give you an info fix?
April 21, 200422 yr You can use it to draw range circles and radials around a specified fix, as well as telling you your current radial and distance, time and range to abeam, give you an abeam point you can move to your legs page, etc.Put a fix up into LSK1 (I think--going from memory here), and then you can enter things like "180/20" along the left side to draw the 180 radial and 20nm circle or "/30" for just a 30nm circle" or "150/" for just a 150 radial, etc.Lee Hetherington, PP-ASEL (KBED)
April 21, 200422 yr This is a good question. There have been some amazing posts in this forum regarding the use of the FIX keys for all sorts of procedures. If you want to spend some time searching through the archives you might come up with some gems.Although Lee has explained it in a nutshell, I'll try and give some longer more descriptive examples.I use it for a lot of the more complex DP's out there.Example 1 - Complex DeparturesOne of my all time favorite departure - the PORTE3 out of KSFOhttp://www.myairplane.com/databases/approa.../00375PORTE.pdfDeparting runway 28L I am expected to:1) Intercept the San Francisco (SFO) 281 radial2) Track out for 6 DME3) Make a left to a heading of 1804) Intercept the Point Reyes (PYE) 135 radial5) Continue the DP (direct PORTE)I'd set of my FMC as usual - then I'd move on to the fix page. First I go to the FIX pages and type SFO and then LSK1 to activate it. If there are more than one SFO waypoint in the database - I will have to choose between the selections the FMS presents me with. Now I want to tell the FMC to show me both the 281 radial and 6DME point.I can enter these separately by typing281 and hitting the LSK3/6 and hitting LSK4or I can enter them together by typing281/6 and hitting LSK3Now if I look on my EHSI I can clearly see in Green (I think it's green I'm writing this from work) the SFO281 radial and a 6DME range ring. You can enter up to TWO fixes to track in the FMC at any one time. To enter a SECOND fix you bring up the fix page by pressing FIX. Then NEXT PAGE. Type PYE and hit LSK1. This will populate the fix. Since I want to track the PYE 135 radial I would type 135 and press LSK3.Now on my EHSI I have the PYE135 painted as well as my original SFO radial and DME circle.I'm set up to fly the departure! To delete the FIXES just open the appropriate fix page and delete the fix by pressing DELETE followed by LSK1.Example 2 - Approach AidAnother of my favorite procedures - the Stadium Visual into Los Angeles International.http://www.myairplane.com/databases/approa...IUM_VIS24LR.pdfThis is a visual approach - but I would imagine that a smart pilot always has some visual cues fed into his FMC and probably the appropriate ILS punched in as well (in this case that would be IOSS 108.5 249).I'm expect to:1) Cross SMO2) Track the SMO0683) Note where 3.5 dme is4) Turn base east of the freeway at 9DME5) Turn to a 45 degree final crossing the 084 radial. To set this one up on your FMC:1) Open the FIX page2) Type SMO and LSK1 (you might have to select from a few different SMO waypoints)3) Type 068/4 (you can't type 3.5)4) Type 084/9Now you are set up - you can see the SMO068 clearly and the SMO084. As well you can see DME range rings for SMO/9 and SMO/4----------------Have fun trying both of those procedures out. You can handle them both in just one flight by filing KSFO..PORTE3.AVE.SADDE6..KLAX - Remember that the PORTE3 is a pilot nav departure - if you wait for vectors from ATC you might end up in Japan. Also - be sure to ask for the stadium visual as early as possible.Have fun.Ian.
April 21, 200422 yr AFAIK the FIX page was added as part of the first patch (1.1) and thus the manual is separate from the original PIC manuals. If someone out there has that manual - let's stick it somewhere that it can be accessed by those looking for it.I'm willing to host it.Ian.
April 21, 200422 yr Hi,Ian is right, the FIX documentation is part of the 1.1 patch. But two nice tutorials about the use of FIX page can be found athttp://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/767.htmlLook under 767PIC FMC Manual, 'Extended runway centerline' and 'DME arc'Cheers,Nicowww.nicokaan.nl
