October 12, 200421 yr Hey,Is it possible that the LD767 may simulate ACARS via the MCDU?This is primarily to facilitate uploading of things such as ZFW from the aircraft cfg file instead of having to close the sim to get the information. My wish for PIC is to make it as realistic as possible, and i know that ACARS is how many major airlines communicate vital perfoemance info to the crews.
October 12, 200421 yr already a post on thathttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=26144&page=just a few post below yours ;)Gary HayesLevel-D Simulations Development TeamNo im not a "real" pilot, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.P4 3.0ghz w/HT & FSB..GeForce FX 5900 ultra 256MB..1 gig PC3200 DDR RAM..Sound Blaster Audigy w/5.1 THX Gary Hayes My Youtube No i'm not a "real" pilot, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
October 12, 200421 yr No Major Airline uses ACARS with an MCDU on a 767.They might well use that combo if they were flying an Airbus.;)
October 12, 200421 yr Or NGs fitted with the MCDUJust because it's called MCDU doesn't necessarily mean it's fitted in an Airbus! ;-)Cheers, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
October 13, 200421 yr Author I didn't necessarily mean the MCDU, I just guessed it would be easier that way.BTW, what is the correct term that boeing uses for the display unit of the FMC (i know MCDU is the Airbus term)
October 13, 200421 yr Hi,Well you are not completely wrong. On the Smiths FMC, which is installed on the 737 series, you have three different kinds of input devices that can be utilized in any combination:CDU - The basic interface to the FMCsMCDU - Multi-function CDUFANS MCDU - Future Air Navigation System MCDUThe latter two provides a broader range interface to both the FMCs and other systems within the FMS. ACARS being one of these functions I presume. Cheers, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
October 13, 200421 yr Hey Mark,Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I am sure the ACARS system onboard British Airways Boeing 767s are accessible via the CDU. While I have not been fortunate enough to step onto one of their flightdecks to have a proper gander, I do have access to their Boeing 757/767 flight manual and I am positive by reading it that it is accessed this way.Again, please correct me if I am wrong. I am not trying to undermine your statement. It would be nice to have ACARS implemented in Level-D, but I wouldnt be disappointed if it wasnt included as our system in British Airways Virtual is the only ACARS I will ever need. Now if only there was someway of integrating that into Level-D. I think Wade's people need to speak to my people......;)Regards,Lee Holland. Lee Holland
October 13, 200421 yr Lee,BA's ACARS is indeed accessed via the CDU. I have seen this in practice while jumpseating on a delayed flt GLA-LHR a few years back. Captain was able to update LHR Ground Services with info on pax with busted connections and get gate info for those with short connections. As to my statement, I was pulling Check Airman's leg because MCDU is the Airbus term for the CDU.
October 14, 200421 yr And Airbus term for FMC is FMGS (Flight management and Guidance System) if I remember correctly!!Francois
