Why I am an armchair pilot

Featured Replies

Hi all in the forum.Thought I would share this with you all as it is a laugh at my expense. Yesterday I did an online flight from EPKK to EGSS as controllers were at each end and mostly all the way according to Vatsims booking system. The take off went well and the controllers were handing me off and the flight was very enjoyable. However I was very fatigued (nothing to do with the couple of glasses of wine at dinner honest)and I fell asleep at the pc (operating it from an armchair) so I missed my decent call and every other call right up to EGSS Tower. so if you were manning either ESSEX radar or EGSS tower Sunday 22nd at around 10pm local then my apologies for seemingly ignoring your calls but i just didnt see or hear anything. When I did wake up I was far too high and far too close to EGSS and thanks to the controller for letting me take up a hold position to try and rescue my flight. I hope I didn't spoil anyone elses flight, and I did eventually land, not very elegantly but the plane did come to a stop,(sort of) so thanks to the EGSS tower for being symathetic to my embarrasing situation and i taxied to the gate and logged off very quickly. So even with over 300 hours of online flying I am still an amateur compared to the guys that do this and stay awakeJohn CallejaBAW 352

I set alarms if I feel I have any possibility of being sleepy. Either a rotating alarm every 10 mins, or if Im on a longhaul, (trans atlantic) an alarm 5 minutes before every oceanic waypoint, step climb requirement and one 30 mins before top of descent.
