Contact Points for Mel's 747 with PSS FDE

I apologize if I put the whole file complete and I don't know if I needed permission for that. I just did it for your convenience. For the Qantas, just put whatever you like.http://flightcraft.avsim.net/Images/andy_sig.jpg

IS all that Info for the PSS Air File?? And Meljet's CFG file? Delete all of mels CFG file info, and use the one you posted? is that correct? I just renamed the Panel CFG file, to Alias to the Correct engined PSS 747 panel, and i did a short test flight of the Autopilot Functions, and it seemed to work OK to me, the Speed held to what i set it at, and it climbed to the altitude i set in the Autopilot window! It did everything without excessive climb values, although this is all done without the FMC working, I did not try that yet, and all my Slats and Flaps worked perfectly and read correctly on FD, 10 showed 10 degress! So if it just the FMC V-Nav and L-Nav that eveyone is having problems with? Thank's for the Info MIRAGE, please let me know more info on the stuff you posted above! Thank's Guy's MIKE!-:)

Hi mirage,Is it possible to have a B744 at a heavier weight say about 515000lbs? 450000 is quite an empty B744?Cheers!

The info you just provided I take it is a modified Meljet 747 cfg file, correct? I am using his original with little problems, however the ZFW issue is a still a problem. Mel's file as does yours has a EMPTY WEIGHT of 450,000 pounds. As everyone knows this value is of little use to us with the PSS panel. Question, since the BOW of a 747-400 is around 400,000 pounds where did the 450K lbs come from and how can one add the ZFW which should be upwards of 500,000 pounds..Mel, Mike or whoever please advise on how to change or add this value for Zero Fuel Weight (ZFW)CheersBob JohnsonDenver

Guys, the flight dynamics are from the PSS cfg. I just changed the weights, lights, and airoplane geometry. Supposedly, the empty weight is 450,000 pounds. I don't know the ZFW but it seems too high. Perhaps somebody could help us alter it because you need to do more than just write the ZFW. ie, alter all weight parametres evenly. (I think) :-)http://flightcraft.avsim.net/Images/andy_sig.jpg

The so called empty weight 450000lbs is what is to be entered into the FMC, basically it's the ZFW. Looking for ways to make it heavier but when I do so, everything mess up.

Hi Andy, you have two conflicting sections for {aircraft geometry} in your .cfg file - I don't think the plane is going to take kindly to that. If you're going to use the PSS geometry, you'll have to adjust the gear compression etc, otherwise the plane will bounce slightly on landing. You will also have to add a section for the slats, or they won't be animated. If there is no separate section for ZFW, then the empty weight and ZFW are the same. I'll do some more experimenting tonight.Cheers,Gosta.

This is taken directly from one of my PSS config's. I usually like to fly with a near full load. This represents 390 passengers (100-40-250), 55,000#'s of cargo and baggage (37,000-18,000). It gives me a ZFW of 526,650 with Max fuel of 346,376. It'll look like this on the config file;(WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE)empty_weight = 397000 // (pounds)reference_datum_position = 0.0, 0, 0 empty_weight_CG_position = 5.0, 0, 0 station_load.0 = 0450, 81.00, 0.0, 0.0 //Weight Crew (lbs) LEAVEstation_load.1 = 4000, 29.00, 0.0, 0.0 //Weight Galleys(lbs) LEAVEstation_load.2 = 9000, 58.00, 0.0, 0.0 //Weight Baggage 1 (lbs) Baggage A |station_load.3 = 37000, 4.00, 0.0, 0.0 //Weight Baggage 2 (lbs) CARGO |--Max 60,000 lb station_load.4 = 9000, -50.00, 0.0, 0.0 //Weight Baggage 3 (lbs) Baggage B |station_load.5 = 7200, 58.00, 0.0, 0.0 //Weight Psgr Sect OA (lbs) First ---- |--180 lb PER PASSANGER station_load.6 = 18000, 80.00, 0.0, 0.0 //Weight Psgr Sect OB (lbs) Business |station_load.7 = 22500, 48.00, 0.0, 0.0 //Weight Psgr Sect OC (lbs) Economy A |--MAX 412 Passengers station_load.8 = 22500, -83.00, 0.0, 0.0 //Weight Psgr Sect OD (lbs) Economy B |//TOTAL ZFW = 526650empty_weight_roll_MOI=18200000.000000empty_weight_pitch_MOI=33100000.000000empty_weight_yaw_MOI=39700000.000000empty_weight_coupled_MOI=0.000000EMPTY WEIGHT IS NOT THE ZERO FUEL WEIGHT!!!!! So to help everyone out here, below is the config file that I am using (STILL NOT COMPLETELY TESTED) and so far all appears to work well. Only problem I had so far was with the flare on landing in approach mode. That's still a problem within PSS airfile. The config below should work fine for everyone. Do not change any of the contact points. When you want to modify the dynamics of an aircraft the areas that need to be addressed are the weight and engine parameters, not the contact points. The only time you adjust the contact points FOR THE GEAR ONLY is to adjust wheel sink into the runway. REMEMBER TO CHANGE TO () TO SQAURE BRACKETS!Happy Flying!Mike BaumannUnited Sim DesignsP.S. Forgot to mention that you also need to replace/add the airfile from PSS, in this case it's PSS747LH.

Mike,I tried your config file and I can't get the radios nor the FMC-CDU to work. Just thought I would let you know.

Hi Mike,The main carraige tends to lift off when the plane is about to rotate? It works fine at MTOW but at lightweight the gear tends to lift up at the back and 2 degrees up from the nose and the plane lifts off?I'll try to find a solution too. Hey Gosta,Anything there? Thanks!alvin

I haven't had the time to fully test all aspects of it. In the short amount of time I had, it worked fine. Everything on the FMC and AP worked, I didn't program any flight into it yet. Took off from O'Hare with the above load (dumped the fuel) and landed after a short distance flight back at O'Hare. All worked and handled fine. My main concern at the time was to just get the main dynamics to where I felt they should be for a heavy bird. And also I should mention that I never fly this beast with a light load or short distances, I reserve it for all my long haul stuff. So for those of you looking for a solution for short haul stuff, I couldn't tell you. Other than reducing the amount of fuel. As far as how the gear is reacting during takeoff, thats not an airfile OR config problem, thats a model issue and you would have to contact MelJet on that. It's written into the model as to how the part will animate and when. All the changes in the world to your config file will not make the difference, sorry.I had hoped that this would help you all in solving your problem. Sorry that some of you still have a few flaws. I'll let you know what I find on my flight when I get it done.Mike BaumannUnited Sim Designs

Hi Alvin, just got in from work, I'll have a look in a bit - as for the take-off, I think it's the gear compression, the PSS FDE demands more than the MelJet contact points give.Cheers,Gosta.

Well, here are my findings. After doing a few circuits with Mel's new 747 model and the PSS FDE, panel, and sounds, I think I've founda combo that works well. All I did was replace the PSS contact points with Wac's contact points, and everything is good. The wheels don't exactly touch the ground evenly when landing, but that's not really a concern of mine. From my tests, the aircraft does not sink, and flies just like the virgin PSS aircraft. While the cargo door also doesn't appear to be working, that's alos not really a big deal in my books. The only thing is the engines still increase & decrease during final using autoland. but it was worse before replacing the general engine part with the one above. Probally alittle tweaking could fix this. But other than that it works good. I did find that the spoilers don't auto deploy.John

Captains,I helped Melvin a bit, and did sent him a CFG what works. He shall make it available soon I hope.Johan[A HREF=http://www.phoenix-simulation.co.uk]Phoenix Simulation Software[/A]-----http://www.people.zeelandnet.nl/johdUnofficial PSS Website
