Building The Perfect Beast

The time has arrived for me to upgrade my paltry 1.1 GHZ AMD to a nice custom gaming rig. I

J.P. - Yes, I'm jealous 'cause I want one too :-) . (Or, if I can't have the whole thing I'll settle for just the case.) I'd wouldn't go with more than 1GB of physical RAM. Unless you're into some really heavy video or graphics work, going to 2GB is a bit of overkill. Certainly for all flight-sim related things, 1GB is more than fine. I just went through the which-video-card-is-better and decided to go with a 9800 Pro. The choice between the 9800 and the 5900 is really a tough one as one card is better at some things and the other card is better at others. From everything I could find, the Convential Wisdom says that, overall, the 5900 may be a tad faster but the 9800 has the best quality graphics. But it's a really subjective call. You can't go wrong with either and I'm still not sure that, looking at the monitor, one can even tell the difference between the two. Doug

Not only in MSFS, but other games too. I'd personally go for the Radeon. And if you can afford it, go the 1GB of RAM, otherwise 512 is plenty :)

Nice system! By the way why do you want a CDRW and DVD CD-RW and not just a CDRW/DVD combo?

The Plextor was listed at $63.00, but guy on the phone, when I ordered it offered it (the second drive) to me for $20.00 he also cut me a nice break on the Ram as well, about $200.00 so I said what the hay and had them stuff it in there.PS I also recieved $25.00 off of the video card.

Nice system! Congratulations! Just think, your system will still be kicking butt several years from now. Make sure and give us an update on how cool it is for you. (lucky guy!)
