Just got the CH Yoke and pedals

Featured Replies

I finally got the CH Yoke and Pedals that I ordered 1.5 months ago. Don't know if they are in short supply or if I was just unlucky having to wait this long.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/58620.jpgAfter installing them, I did a first test flight using the DF Archer. I increased the throttle, started moving...and was all over the place. With the twist handle of my old Logitech stick, this wasn't a problem. I knew it would take some getting used, but I didn't imagine it would be this hard. Things became a lot easier after I determind that the rudder axis and toe-brakes were inverted and corrected them :-lol It also took some tweaking to get the Mix and Prop levers to work correclty in FS2004 (the worked right away in X-Plane) but I eventually managed to get those working as well. When it was time to assign a few special keyboard commands (consisting of several key strokes) that I need, I ran into a lot of problems. The CH Control Manager is the most unfriendly and awkward program I've worked with in a long tme. It took forever for me to find where to actually record key strokes. It took even longer to figure out how to actually activate the custom controller settings. With the Logitech profiler, I'd just select the game exe, click the buttons I want to program, record the key strokes and save. With the CH tool, you need to go through some Map creation wizzard, recalibrate the controller, answer a bunch of strange questions, then finally get to the part where you actually program the keys. Then, to record key strokes, you're supposed to right-click in a textbox and click record keystrokes. There's no button or menu option for it and nowhere does it state that you should right-click. Once the sequence is recorded, you're supposed to click a button called

My experiences with CH control manager and downloads were not pleasant. What worked best for me was simply plugging in the yoke, calibrating it in Windows, and using FSUIPC for assignments and keystrokes. And not a problem since.Rick

I hope the smoothness of your yoke through its entire travel is better than mine. Mine is a joke,I really should have sent it back to see if another would make any diff but I didn't. Mine is pretty smooth pulling back for a little bit and then it wants to start grabbing. Side to side movement is fine as it should be because the yoke isn't moving forward or aft, just turning on its axis.Yeah I tried the WD40 route, used some lithimum grease used it all. Finally took the thing apart,it hangs or grabs where it comes out of the back. The yoke slides through(or tries to) a cheap plastic bushing. I would have paid extra for a real bearing or at least more precision in that part of the construction. I haven't had time to really mess with it but I'm going to try some lighter weight springs and see if I can't make it work. Oh yeah,no matter what CH says there are springs to re-center the yoke,I think they claim that they don't put those in anymore but they do,I've seen um...David

> Oh yeah,no>matter what CH says there are springs to re-center the yoke,I>think they claim that they don't put those in anymore but they>do,I've seen um...>They never claimed this. They claim (which is correct) there is no longer the central 'detent'.I admit I don't own the yoke yet. But during the 2002 Avsim conference I played a lot with all yokes available at the show and walked away with firm opinion that CH's yoke had the best overall feel. For lubrication they only recommed a sillicon grease, petroleum based products can make things actually worse.Michael J.

I've had the CH USB Yoke and Pedals for about a year and really enjoy them. I agree with the frustration of the original CH control program....I simply calibrated/reassigned functions on it through fs9 and the WinXP controller calibration which has worked pretty good.Recently, however, I've had a couple of problems and I'm wondering what to check, or if the new 3.0 CH control program mentioned above might help. Yoke: I've been flying the Meridian a lot recently, and occasionally when I'm at low rpm the engine rpm suddenly surges....I have to move the throttle and reset it again at low rpm. Anyone else here have that type of problem?Pedals: For some reason my braking has become much to sensitive.....I barely lean forward on the pedals and the brakes are strongly applied.Any thoughts appreciated. :-wave Thanks, Steve JonesKHEF[Edit: P.S. I don't have the full payware version of fsuipc. My system specs: AMDXP1800+, 512 ram, Ti4200, Audigy, WinXP Home.....)
