May 6, 200422 yr I got hit by it and i finally got rid of it but now my computer keeps rebooting intermittently!do you think if i format the c: drive and reinstall it will solve this or is it a hardware issue? I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
May 8, 200422 yr If the virus walked into your house with his toolbox, and started screwing around with your computer, then I'd say it's a hardware issue :). Just kidding...But seriously, I suppose you were wondering if it may have messed with your BIOS - I very much doubt it, as this would involve many hardware-specific versions of the virus. So, reformatting your HD should work. But if you have various partitions, bear in mind that the virus may not neccessarily reside on the 'C' drive. So, a better option might be to first try to restore your system to a point before you caught the virus (using XP's System Restore function), leaving the reformat as a last resort.Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg
May 8, 200422 yr I hadn't heard of this virus/worm until last Tuesday. A day which hopefully my University will not forget. My mate rang me from Uni to tell me that there may be no poit coming in as all the computers in the Business School had gone down.I went to the lecture I had that afteroon anyway, and sure enough the lectures were caught off gaurd. They use PCs to drive the majority of the screens, even if trying to watch a VHS video.A classmate told me that this "sasser" wrom had been released, targeting Win 2000 and Win XP based systems.Initially I was worried. How to connect to the Norton Anti-virus 2004 LiveUpdate nad Windows Updates sitew without running the risk of being infected.Went ahead anyway to the Windows update.Thankfully the Windows Update identifier related to an update which had been on my PC since the 17th of April 2004.Strange that Microsoft should be haead of the game interms of an update/security risk... or isn't it?What I do find strange/difficult to comprehend is how/why I, an indicual home PC user can be bothered to update Windows and my Anti-virus software, and yet an institution the size of my University - who is evidently highly dependent upon its network - seemingly hasn't updated it's operating system (Windows 2000) since early/mid April :-roll.
May 9, 200422 yr Thanks for all your responsessome good news and some bad newsas for the good news i managed to fix the reboots, guess what it was, well it wasn't a hardware or software issue, it was my damn multiplug socket which was playing up,i plugged it into the first one and now no reboots what so ever!as for the bad news, that sasser is still dormant in my computer!i went to symatec and downloaded the tool for the sasser worm, it comes up clear, i also ran my antivirus software with the latest definitions and none can find it, it still dormant on my c drive because every now and again my antivirus software comes up with a window saying c:/windows/blahblahblahsasser.exe,run AVG to delete the virus!but when i run it it does not find it!
