January 2, 200620 yr I am in the market for a new display.I currently use a ViewSonic Ultrabrite 19" CRT. Since the majority of use of for FS should I stay with a CRT or go with an LCD Display?I always thought CRT's were best for FS, so:1 - Is there a large CRT out there that anyone could recommend (21"+)2 - Is there a large Flat Panel that anyone could recommend that good for FS.Thanks & Happy New YearCheersBrian

Because every LCD screen is a fixed array of physical pixels, any picture not in the native resolution of the display has to have interpolation done to decide what the physical liquid crystal pixel should do when two or more pixels of the virtual image overlaid on the physical matrix overlap the physical pixel. This leads to jaggies, blurred detail etc. With a CRT, it's just a matter of adjusting the timing of the electron gun scan to draw bigger dots in a wider scan line, or smaller dots and more lines...as long as you're not approaching the limits of the photoactive emulsion or screen, or the bandwidth limits of the electronics themselves, you can display a wide range of screen resolutions without picture degradation. I also find a good CRT to have a much brighter image, and no color shifting when viewed from an angle (some LCD panels are awful for this).I use a pair of 22" NEC MultiSync FP1375X flat-CRT monitors. No regrets taking the trouble to lug them from continent to continent with me.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
January 3, 200620 yr Windchill, search this and numerous other forums here at Avsim (especially the "other" hardware forum that is a subby of the main MSFS forum) and you'll find plenty of folks who are gaming quite happily with LCD's. Also, there is plenty of info at other gaming forums around the net.CRT's will always have their stalwart supporters, but the fact of the matter is that LCD's are an outstanding option. After all, there has to be a reason that almost all manufacturer's sales of LCD's has been so good the past couple of years. I used to believe just as Bob does, but I could never go back to a CRT after using this LCD for the past year.Good luck,Greg
January 3, 200620 yr I'm with Greg, after moving to an LCD I'd not go back to CRT. The current crop of LCD panels is excellent. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
