February 12, 200620 yr Hi all-I would like to know if anyone has a recommendation for replacing my ATI 9800 Radeon Pro 128mb card? I'd like to stay with ATI as I've had no problems with my current setup. Specs are Dell 8300 w/3.4ghz Pentium. Thanks!Mark
February 28, 200620 yr It really depends on how much you want to spend. I upgraded from the 9800 to a x800pro and FS looks great. It's driving a 23" flat panel monitor at 1920@1200 resolution. By today's standard the x800 is a mid to lower range card in ATI land. Go with a card that has 16 pipes though so that would be at least an 800XT. I'm waiting a bit longer for the 1900s to come down a bit which shouldn't be far down the road.Newegg.com is a great place to scope out the cards.Dave
March 4, 200620 yr get the new 7800 GS (its AGP!!!). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814150129
March 10, 200620 yr As far as the 78 thats an nVidia (good card anyway),but he wants to stay ATI. Depending on your budget ofcourse and graphics slot AGP or PCI-e. anyway maybe this will help you along, its an overview of various ATI cards now on the market http://www.digital-daily.com/video/
March 12, 200620 yr I would go with an X850XT If you can find one at a decent price. I went from a 9800 to the ATI X800XL and I have been really happy. Runs everything very well and it still is a good card. The latest ATI offerings actually are very little improvement until you get to the 1900 series. I still am on AGP here and If I do upgrade it will be to the X850 card. The 7800GS is a good card also, your choices will be limited by the AGP requirement. Time to upgrade the system this summer I think.Hornit
March 17, 200620 yr I have a similar system: Dell 8300, 3.4ghz, 1gb ram, ati 9800 pro. I recently upgraded to a x850xt. Unfortunately my screen res is limited to 1024 so the improvement in graphics and performance was minimal, certainly not worth the cost of upgrade. I will be returning the card.Andre
