Hi all,Here is a shot of the main ActiveSky wxRE program screen. http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxre-ssmain.jpgHere you will receive all pertinent weather information and be able to get or set custom weather. Note that in addition to METARs and winds aloft, TAFs are now shown and processed for dynamic weather changes as time progresses (newest METAR reports take precedence). While flying in the new OFFLINE mode, you can experience the full range of forecast weather according to any pre-downloaded or custom-made weather settings.(Note that this is still work in progress)......

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxresmallbanner.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

Here's the new weather planning/briefing screen...http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxre-ssplanning.jpgYou can enter departure, destination and any enroute or alternate stations and receive all the important weather information for your flight including METARs, TAFs and winds aloft for departure, enroute, destination and alternate airports. When Online this data is downloaded directly from the servers. When OFFline, your configured offline files are used for accurate planning according to the conditions you'll be flying in.After you process and view your weather, your DESTINATION/FORCE options are automatically enabled. You can also print the report for future reference during your flight (or view this information at any time and get a new report while the sim is running).

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxresmallbanner.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

WOW I have not seen that since ProPilot days. That was nice checking and planning your flight around your weather for thru out the flight. Thats great Damian. Excellent program shaping up there Sir!

Damian,A very, very basic question. I feel dumb even asking this ... how does ActiveSky keep track which metar station to get the weather from ?. Is it keeping up with aircraft progress and then picks the nearest station ? Or does it have to be pre-programmed via flight plan or something else ?Michael J.

Hey you dummy, :)(There are NO stupid questions!)It picks the closest valid metar reporting station throughout your flight (and then dynamically processes the transitional weather info). The weather briefing interface is independant of processed conditions but it WILL automatically set your destination airport for the FORCE features, which will in turn switch to your destination airport weather when within the optional force range.-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxresmallbanner.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

Just wondering with METAR stations - I notice that there are very few Australian stations in the ICAO list with Active Sky V1.5 - are you proposing to have all the other Australian (Y***) METAR reporting stations in the future edition? Thanks.

Sweweeeeeeeeeeeetrtttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!Looking forward to this! Can't wait to tell Marc (FS Meteo) to get lost! ;-)

I agree totally about the "sweeeeeeeeettt" remark, but hang on just a sec about telling Marc to get lost. Let's not forget that if it weren't for Marc, we'd have had nothing for FS98, 2000 or 2002 up until now (except MS' default, which isn't worth even looking at if you really want real wx). Marc produced a really good package (and still does), and his customer support has been outstanding. Now I think Damian's program up's the stakes that much higher (by several leaps), but that shouldn't in any way diminish what Marc has done for the community for quite a few years now (a loooong time in the computer world). I will continue to keep FSMeteo on board, as at worst, it will serve as a backup should Damian's servers go down, or the METAR data be really out of date from time to time. There is no question that wxRE will be my number one source for FS weather assuming that all the reports are accurate (and I have absolutely no reason to believe they aren't), but that doesn't mean I'll just summarily dismiss Marc and his work. I don't know this for a fact, but it could very well be that Damian is building on Marc's original work (I don't mean plagerizing, I just mean building on the knowledge base that Marc laid down, and others before him).My 2 cents worth on that :-).Glenn

I agree totally about the "sweeeeeeeeettt" remark, but hang on just a sec about telling Marc to get lost.Sorry, i've received very poor support from Marc and I'm glad to see this product coming out now. Marc disabled my FS Meteo because I installed it at home and at work, saying that there was some obscure clause saying it could only be installed on one computer. I'm sorry, but after giving him whatever it cost for FS Meteo and the Weather Display, just to have him turn around and disable it really ###### me off and he has lost me as a customer no matter what he produces in the future.

HHmmnn, bummer. Yeah, I didn't know about that. Someone once said his "security" system was why his servers kept crashing on him (us) as they seemed to act strangely at times (I could get wx, but my friend couldn't, or vice versa, at the same time), so maybe there's something to that afterall. Sorry your experiences weren't as positive as mine, but I can see your reason for being upset. No matter, it sounds like we have one killer of a system about to come out, so we can just concentrate on that, and from what I've seen of Damian and his beta guys, his support will be second to none! :-). Let the "weather" begin... :-)Glenn

Here Here ;-)

Oh, I forgot, now if we could just get that CS727 released by the 15th ;-)))

Hehe, well, that's a whole other issue altogether. I was one who preordered, but finally asked for a refund. There were a lot of reasons for asking for a refund, but ultimately it is us simmers who are designing and testing that machine (remember when we first got the tech release, the machine had the performance of a King Air), and I don't like having to pay for that on top of everything. Everything Damian has done right here, CS has done wrong, and I'm now too suspicious of the whole setup over there to take a chance on it again (especially his security system!). I suspect it will be quite a long while before that airplane is released if he is going to make it as good as his claims (visuals notwithstanding, because they are excellent, but the visuals are only about 20% of the overall part of the picture when it comes to a payware airplane).Anyway, I'm getting off topic here (sorry Damian). I'm excited enough about wxRE that I'm not worrying about CS :-).Glenn

Mmmm, think my message got lost way back there ...Just wondering with METAR stations - I notice that there are very few Australian stations in the ICAO list with Active Sky V1.5 - are you proposing to have all the other Australian (Y***) METAR reporting stations in the future edition?Thanks.P.S. Does anyone have an ICAO list for ActiveSky which they've added to themselves (with all the Australian reporting stations included)?Ta.

Sorry Captain,That's probably my fault that your message got kind of lost. I'm not a beta tester, but I've asked a similar question (about flying in remote regions) and the answer was that if it has a reporting station, then it will be included in wxRE. In addition, if the reporting station has gone off the air (most real world stations are now automatic and often don't report at night (I wonder if the weather goes to bed at night as well?? :-) )), then wxRE will use the TAF and interpolate based on that. I'm not sure how much interpolation it uses when between stations (hopefully a lot), but I would assume that there is full worldwide coverage as much as possible in this. Hopefully that gives you at least a bit of an answer to your question, and sorry for taking up the thread with an off topic bit.Glenn
