March 23, 200323 yr I am currently flying at FL390 (39,000ft) The winds aloft according to version 1.6 say the winds are from 250 degrees between 130-152kts from FL's 340-390. I am getting winds from 220 degrees at 49kts. I checked the status on the Activesky program and it said that the FS altitude is 11877? If that is in meters, it's above where I am at and if it is in feet, well then it is really off. I am using version 2.975 of FSUIPC and yes, I am reading the winds aloft data correctly. What is going on? The winds have stayed the same on multiple updates from different stations with just slight changes in speed? I have my FSUIPC set up according to the manual and rechecked it as well? Eric
March 23, 200323 yr Yes, the status screen is in meters and with your data everything is right on. Go here: http://www.ibdprince.com/metric.shtml and punch in 39,000 feet. The conversion into meters is 11,877.2. The FS altitude represents your current flight level. At high flight levels winds tend to remain pretty constant, that is why pilots try to get there and why you are not seeing much change.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
March 23, 200323 yr Author Ok, thanks. Just odd seeing no wind change or direction change for over 880nm all the way down the US eastern seaboard even though the stations kept changing. Eric
March 23, 200323 yr Eric,I really wasn't sure of your original question or problem so I tried to talk about everything in your first post. Please return here if you have any questions or problems.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
March 24, 200323 yr Just as an informational point, checked the NWS winds charts for FL360 and the winds were on average about 200/140 knots. Tried to upload the chart, but got an error message (gheese)CheersBob
March 25, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi Eric,Ok, so to confirm, the problem is that the actual winds experienced are not what was reported by wxRE, or as forecasted, correct? Not just off a little but off 100 knots here!First things first, is this something reproducable or just a single occurance? There is a known problem with ADVDISP that can halt FSUIPC communications at times (the fix is to disable ADVDISP or change its screen configuration). That may have caused your problem there - as wxRE was trying to process it correctly but FS2002 wasn't accepting the variables. If reproducable, I could use screenshots of the main and status screens - and would like to know if the winds get accurate as you climb or descend?Any help to troubleshoot would be appreciated. -Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies

March 29, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi,I must admit I am not familiar with ADVDISP's operation, but I have heard that changing the "docked or locked" settings can help here. Have you tried disabling ADVDISP? Can you confirm the problem goes away when it is disabled?-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
