I started getting CTD's and I think that wxRE is the culprit

Featured Replies

Need some help here, I've started getting crashes back to desktop, usually towards the end of my destination. This has happened several times and is very irritating to say the least. My system specs are in my sig and as you can see I overclock. My system is prime95 and memtest86 stable but I did turn the FSB back to stock to see if maybe that was a problem. Still had CTD's. Today I upgraded to 1.92 and still CTD's. I then noticed I had one common denominator: wxRE was running on each flight. So next two flights I did were without wxRE running and I did not experience any CTD's. Also this occured with the default lear, Olys Dash and the Posky 757. Haven't tried any others. Any insight in greatly appreciated!

What is happening weather-wise when this happens?JimActiveSky Support

What seems to happen is clouds coming and going abruptly and the messages scrolling across the top of the screen. I seem to recall that a suggestion was made to "turn that off" but I dunno how. I look at my radios and they are not on 122. I'm using fsuipc 3.11 and have both set up per the readme instructions. I'm scratchin my head on this one.

Hi,Crashes are (at least in our experience) always attributed to sound or video driver issues, or problems with scenery and/or aircraft. NOCD crack can also cause this.In all cases we ever had reported on this, they all turned out to be the above. wxRE only sets your weather via FSUIPC.. it doesn't even touch FS.. only FSUIPC does, so the chance that it can cause a problem is slim... sure there is a chance but so far, ~30 out of 30 times, it is the above. So, I suggest considering any software you recently installed or changes you made.. DirectX or cloud textures are culprits for example. Also please try running wxRE for a complete flight using FS real weather (to make sure comparible weather & system resources are being used) and examine if you get the same effect... If these leads nowhere, let me know and we can try some more things...Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg

I'm using the default cloud textures, the only other textures I added were the water textures, but they were installed before I got wxRE and I didn't have any issues then.I'll try what you suggested but it might be a day or too as tonight I start my midnight to noon shift for two days (horrible is nice way to describe this schedule).I'm wondering about sound. I'm using a Fortissmo 3 sound card and had to reinstall it. I'll try that avenue too. Thanks for your help. I'll report back when I can.

Finally got a day off!. Ok, up here in the Northeast it is pretty dreary weather wise-so it makes for a perfect testing day!I had ctd's again at differnt points during a KJFK-KDCA run. Weather wise there was rain on again, off again, all sorts of cloud conditions, changes abruptly in visibilty. I did notice however that the ctd would almost always occur when atc was talking and I got an update from activesky.I then went into wxRE options and disabled the "text messages". So far no more ctd's but weather just doesn't seem "right". Can't quite put my finger on it. here is a screenie of my wxre settings: any input appreciated.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/50613.jpg

For FS02: Try to uncheck "Rain/Snow Vis. ReductionFor FS04: Check the "Use FS2004 Weather Writes"Guess I would need to know what you mean by weather not being "right". METARs and FS screen shots help me a lot! I'll be back later to check!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi JimI did the flights back to back. What I meant by "did not seem right" was that the weather was not the nearly same as before I checked the disable text box. Vis was improved, rain had stopped etc.. I'm gonna do some more testing and give you the requested screen shots. Probably will be tomorrow if that's ok. Thanks in advance for your help!Andy

Right now it's raining outside where I live. My local airport is less than a mile from me KWWD. Right up the road is KACY where it is raining hard.So I loaded up a flight at kwwd and this is what wxRE gives me:It's dry as a bone in FS9. Any ideas?

Thanks for the shot.First, go by the METARs on the main screen of AS. I just loaded up both airports and got accurate weather at both.Second, clear all weather. I find using FSUIPC is the quickest.Keep flying and let us know.EDIT: IMPORTANT QUESTION: What version of FS are you using??Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Ummm, I hate to sound like an idiot, but, how do you clear the weather with fsuipc? Oh, and I'm using Fs2004 :)

Hi,Modules, FSUIPC, Clear all Weather..I found the problem.. you are not using FS2004 weather writes. Check this box. Problem solved (I hope!) Let us know how you make out.. :)Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg

Well so far so good! A couple tests this morning and all seems well. As far as clear weather in fsuipc, I always thought that if you did that it would clear all the settings you made in fsuipc. sheesh. :)Thank you Jim and Damian, your product/customer support is great!

Well, I was gonna post it but I seem to have exceeded the screenshot limit for avsim :(
