December 21, 200322 yr I landed this evening after an Airbus A330. He was at least 15nm in front of me when he landed. But, crashed due to a wake turbulence event. Right when I flaired, caught me, tossed me up, then down and into the runway.Wasn't I too far behind this big jet to have an issue with wake turbulence? Didn't notice anything on the glide slope, just when I was within 50ft of the ground.I've got it shut off for now as I do like to land at the end of a 3 hour flight.Any ideas?Jim
December 21, 200322 yr What plane were you flying?Did anyone take off between the Airbus landing and you landing?Any action at a parallel runway?JimActiveSky Support
December 21, 200322 yr Had this sort of thing happen to me too for the first time. i was coming in for a landing when a 747 cut i front of me about 1/2 mile and suddenly i was having a roller coaster ride like never before. managed to get out of it got behind the 747 again and low and behold it got me again. Seems you really have to keep an eye out for that AI traffic that wants to butt in line or face a tail spin into the ground. Sure makes things interesting around the old airport. Don:-lol
December 21, 200322 yr Eaglesoft Beechjet 400A. Was landing CYYC (Calgary) ILS 16. No parallel and it was just me and the Air Canada Airbus in the vicinity.
December 21, 200322 yr Had the same thing, a thai 747 overtook me on final for runway 36 in shanghai, didnt know what was going on at first, the 737 was nearly uncontrollable, call this severe turbulance LOL, had to go around cause there was no way i was going to make the runway, turned wake turb off after this, stupid ai :)Regards,Darren
December 21, 200322 yr hi,can confirm heavy wake turbulence during final...yesterday evening, (wanted to :-))landed (in an A320) behind dash-800/300 under cat III conditions...shortly before over the threshold, my airbus got more or less flipped over...:-) and crashed.cheers, harald
December 21, 200322 yr This is definitely not a case of AI sneaking in front of me. The Airbus landed about the time that I intercepted the localizer. I could understand (and would not have posted) if I had been cut-off by an AI aircraft and was much closer during this event.I can confirm that AS2004 was processing a Wake Turbulence event as the status bar on AS2004 stated the last thing it had done was complete a Wake Turbulence event.I think this is a persistency issue and not a problem with wake turbulence (I had it on for a reason). And I can assure you that if I had thought it would have been a problem, I wouldn't have gotten that close to the ground.Jim
December 21, 200322 yr LOL I was redoing an approach to KPHX (I got the STAR wrong the first time) and was to cleared to land by Radar Contact _and_ FSATC. Then, about 2 mi out, I got the GA command from RC as a heavy was taking off on my rwy.So I ignored the command, not wanting to fly anymore. Got close to touchdown and then got SLAMMED into the rwy by turb...stupid me! ;)
December 21, 200322 yr Jim,Thanks for the follow ups. Let's keep a watch of this and see if you and/or others have this happen. If so, some adjustments may be in order.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
December 21, 200322 yr Well, in that case I'll turn wake turbulence back on. I'll let you know if it happens again.Thanks...Jim
December 22, 200322 yr Ok, more information. Just landed after flying EDDK-EGLL, behind a Boeing aircraft. About 6nm behind this one, so much closer. It was not "heavy" though. The Airbus the other day was. No wake turbulence noticed, and I was flying the Eaglesoft Beechjet again. Biggest problem on this flight was wind shear on descent (but that is being dealt with already).Jim
December 22, 200322 yr hey Jim.....here's my instance of wake turbulence....was on final for rwy 8 at KABQ. i was in a Fairchild Metroliner and was #2 behind a SW 737. the 737 had landed and was just taxiing off the runway as i approached the threshold and caught his air. it did toss me around quite a bit but i was able to keep her in control (kinda) and landed upright, but slightly short of the runway.the wake turbulence seemed a bit drastic there....but any turbulence that i've encountered while enroute at altitude has been extrememly realistic.thankschris
December 22, 200322 yr Similar thing here on final into 6R at KLAX last night, I was about 7 miles behind a SW 737 who landed on same or parallel in one of Olav's Dash 8's, I was nearly rolled over shortly before reaching the threshold, and shot up 200-300 ft in altitude. A go around should have been in order but I put it down on the last 1500'. This was a pretty unrealistic wake turbulence effect, I would think. On the other hand, the mild to moderate turbulence I experienced coming down over the mountains to the NE of LA on a SADDE6 arrival felt about as realistic as I've ever experienced in FS!Will keep testing..regards,
